PING - Tell Me About your Pings
dblbgy17 replied to dblbgy17's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
wow, now you've had some PING experience. i haven't had the chance to swing the Ansers yet but they look amazing. if they feel half as good as they look, i can definitely see myself getting those clubs. i also imagine they're the most similar to my 735's and my game. thanks for the feedback. -
i couldn't agree more. this is the first year i actually preferred watching the round online instead of tv. the round was so much more in depth, more caddy/player interaction as well as player/player interaction. very cool.

thanks for including your G10 info. i just threw some sets out there, please feel free to include any sets and any info. thanks. i think my friend was using G2 a few years ago. i only swung them a couple of times but from what i remember, they seemed to swing themselves once you got them started. i like that in the low irons but i like to have playability/feel in my hi irons. -

so from what i can tell PING is doing down in these series of clubs? i.e. s58, s57, s56...oldest to newest. i haven't seen the s58 but that sounds like exactly what i'm looking for....very similar to my 735.cm. thanks for the info. your 2 iron sounds awesome but i'm more of a hybrid player. ever use a PING hybrid? -

i'm thinking about switching to PING clubs next season. i recently had a chance to swing the s57, 7 iron, and it felt very good. i've been playing Titleist 735.cm for the last few years, so i'm familiar with the forged feel, player's club. they have the split iron set, so the 8,9,PW are blades. i saw this year PING came out with the Anser iron set which seems similar to my 735.cm set. so...what do you like/dislike about your PINGs? would you suggest the G15, K15, s56, s57, Anser? and why. I have also never been fitted, have you been fitted for PING and how was your experience? thanks

i'm not a parent, so take this advice with a grain of salt but i have helped my mom in raising my 12yrs younger brother. he's a very smart kid but also a very free spirit. we love to encourage his free spirit b/c we feel it's very important to be your own person...but not at the cost of your future. he had a few semesters when he slipped up a bit, i think mostly due to lack of organization. we sat him down and did as colin mentioned above. we expressed how important it is to keep your grades up b/c it opens doors, gives you more options. even if you decide to become a rock star or backpack across europe, at this stage in life you need those grades. otherwise, if the rock star thing doesn't work out, you'll end up flipping burgers at mcdonald's. and unless your kid is an athletic phenom, he'll need to get into college in order to progress. he won't be able to play without those grades. i think sports are a great tool for a young person to learn. sports teach us so much about life, one of which is balance. i know whenever my sports were in season, i buckled down even more than usual b/c i knew i wouldn't have the time to screw around. your kid sounds like a good kid, with a little help...he'll figure it out.

yes, and i'm not a fan. i know i'm thinking with my heart and the AD's are thinking with their wallets but all this movement is just disheartening. i'm a big ten guy, mostly basketball, and we picked up nebraska?? do they even have a basketball team? only move i would've been ok with is notre dame added to big ten, that just makes sense. everything else seems ridiculous.

i must say that the "warm for cold" brew exchange is a beautiful business strategy.

i vote for the champions tour, especially with the addition of couples, lehman. it's fairly watchable. and the women on the lpga have become increasingly more...um...well...let's just say i'll watch a little longer than i used to.

What brand of golf ball do you use?
dblbgy17 replied to Woters's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
currently use callaway but thinking of going back to titleist -

i know this isn't the thread to address this but phil's shot was not one in a trillion. he would hit the green 75% of the time from that spot b/t the trees and birdie it 90% of the time. now putting the ball on the short side is an awesome shot but he took away a birdie, he would prob do that every time.

as much as i would like to say AK, i have to go with Tiger. if AK can put together 4 solid rounds then he'll be a lock for a major. he had a great sunday at the masters and when he can precede that with a great round on thurs or friday then he'll be just fine. Tiger still has "it". the first tourney he plays he goes T-4 and it's at The Masters, that's just plain good. i'm glad he wasn't able to stick to his emotionless statement. tiger playing golf without emotion, be it good or bad, is like phil playing golf without a smile on his face...doesn't happen. if tiger is going to win a major this year i predict it will be at st. andrews. i'll be cheering for phil as always but if tiger finds that little piece that's missing and takes it overseas...it will be a good battle. sorry lee westwood...you're not winning a major. top 3 in the last whatever it is, 4??, is very impressive but you have to finish and for some reason there are guys who can't hold on to it.

haha, this does look difficult. it would be hard enough to drive a golf cart down this hole let alone steer a ball down that fairway. good luck. your stroke avg?

Can anyone give my swing a couple tips?
dblbgy17 replied to ElTigre's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
just from a couple of quick looks i see what you're saying about needing your weight to continue forward. it looks like you're shifting your weight to your right leg during your backswing, make sure to keep your weight on the left side. maybe work on keeping your right leg straight during your backswing. as far as keeping your weight going through, i think it's in your hip slide. you start out good with the hip sliding forward but then they start to turn instead of slide towards the end of your swing. i've seen a drill where you put your butt up against a wall in your stance, then take a swing and when you slide your hips forward to start your downswing make sure both of your back pockets stay in contact with the wall the whole time during your swing. in other words, your hips shouldn't turn, one pocket touching the wall while the other is off. sorry if this is wordy, kind of hard to explain. i.e. work on finishing your slide, haha. -
i agree with andyh. if you're looking to improve "fast" then i think it's in the short game/putting. improving in this area leads to being a better ball striker. if you start to get up and down better than your ball striking is getting better and you can transfer the 3/4 swing of your pitch shots to the full swing of your mid irons. it's like bill murray says, "baby steps". i disagree. good/great ball strikers end up in the bunker too. and they're able to hit out near the flag and drop the putt b/c their short games are good. most of the best ball strikers are the best out of the sand also, you have to be a good ball striker to get out of the sand. that's why you see the weekend warriors throwing the ball out of the sand after 3 failed attempts to blast it out. granted, bunker play is definitely a separate skill, but it starts with good ball striking.

#13 - par 4 - from the tee you have about a 20yd gap to fit your tee shot between a group of trees on the left and a forest on the right. it's uphill and then fades into a valley that slips left to right. if you hit your drive to the top of the hill you'll have 160-175yds to the green. the green is slightly uphill and has 3 levels. par is excellent, bogey is good. my stroke average: 5.08

1 more club to add to bag i dont know which one?
dblbgy17 replied to kevinbomb123's topic in Golf Talk
you might want to throw in another wedge...52, 54. would guess a wedge will help more than a 5 wood. -
yea, couples by far...ernie is almost there. you know when people talk about letting the club swing itself? they're talking about couples.

i know winning a tournament is impressive no matter what. you go up against that many golfers with that talent in the field, it's a huge accomplishment. however, i'm a little surprised at how shocked people are acting that fred couples has done so well in his debut on the champions tour. starting with a runner up and then going on to win the next 3 tournaments is amazing...but it's FREDDIE and he's the young guy out there. he's obviously putting very well and a commentator mentioned yesterday that if he putted like that on the pga he would've won about 40 tournaments but in my opinion it's just bam bam being bam bam. couples has one of the smoothest swings you'll ever see and if he can keep his back healthy be prepared to see him at the top in a few more tournaments. any other opinions?
-
you went golfing on your wife's bday?? i don't know if i'm impressed or ashamed...good work.
-
yea, i can recall a round until i play the next one. it's like it records over the last one or something. and it helps if i go hole by hole, start at #1 and thru to #18. i.e. if i want to remember #8, it helps me to start at #1, don't know why. my buddy is ridiculous at golf memory. he can recall specific shots on courses that we played years ago, it's uncanny.
-
approach shot, definitely. my driving acc. is about 50%, i'm ok with that. my greens roams between 35-40%, i'm not ok with that. especially when i recap on my round and think of the easy shots i had to hit the green. bounced a 30yd shot over the green yesterday for example, no excuse. other than these shots, if i miss i'm on the fringe or something like that, which is fine with me. just need to be more confident in my yardages and more consistent with my swing. but approach shots for sure...if you're getting GIRs you're good to go...just don't 3 putt every hole, haha.

agree with zeph on these comments. when i first got my 60* i was the same as you. most of my shots went sculling straight right, embarrassing as hell. so whenever i was on the course and was about 50yds and in, i would pull out the 60* and hit as many as i could until the next group came up behind me. 3/4 swing, accelerate through the ball, follow through. practice with it and you'll be more confident then you'll be just fine...stick with it, you'll enjoy the club in the bag.
