Why is my cart bag twisting?
drmevo replied to jkelley9's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I use an Ogio Pisa cart bag with my Clicgear 3.5+ and it works really well. I was able to get the previous year's model for much less than I could buy a previous year Sun Mountain. The only issue I have is that if you don't use the strap channels up top and just put the straps over the outside of the bag it blocks access to the upper side pockets. This is fine with the Clicgear because I can get the bungee straps through the channel but on some riding carts I have to put the strap around the outside. I almost never ride, but if I did a lot more I might look at other bags. -
You might know this, but I think it's worth pointing out how marginal tax rates work since it seems to be commonly misunderstood. Someone making $10 million will pay the same tax on the first $50k they make as someone making $50k, the same on the first $250k as someone making that, etc. (assuming those are defined tax brackets). So really, they're only paying a higher percentage on any income over $250k than someone making $250k. Their effective tax rate will not equal the top marginal tax rate. That might be an oversimplification, and I'm certainly no expert, so someone correct me if I got any of that wrong

New TRUE Linkswear Elements Shoe
drmevo replied to boogielicious's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have the grey/lime elements and I think they are a big improvement over the motions both in terms of fit/comfort and actually being waterproof. However, I have the same issues keeping them clean. After stepping onto some spongy ground in a hazard where water seeped up around the toe, I just can't seem to get the dingy tint out. I tried oxyclean with a paper towel and also that foamy athletic shoe cleaner but they only helped so much. Kind of a bummer given the cost and the rest of the positives with these shoes. -
Cool, just wondering. On the topic of the race, I'm hoping it doesn't come up at my 5 year-old's birthday party today. It's funny how everyone can be getting along great until that stuff comes up. I enjoy discussing politics with people who I know will not get upset, but some people feel the need to hurl insults or take things personally so I try to avoid it at large gatherings.

Just curious, why post this here and not the Memorial Day thread? What's your take on how this video relates to the race?

That's pretty clearly not my point. It's bad press for golf. It's not some random country club nobody knows about, it is (was) a venue for one of the most prestigious tournaments in golf.
-
I would bet (based on my own stubbornness) that at least some part of their reasoning is that they don't like being told to change or looking like they caved to outside pressure. That seems to be coded into the leaked letter cited earlier. At the end of the day, I think the reason some of us care is that we are concerned about the future of golf. Whether you agree with the decision or not, in many people's minds, instances like these just help to reinforce the stereotype that golf is stuck in the past and non-inclusive (even while many of us know that to not be the case for the most part). It makes it a lot harder to grow interest in the game while old codgers are excluding women based on their lunches somehow getting ruined by the presence of said women. That's why it matters.

How many female members does Augusta have at this point? Maybe four or five? It seems unlikely they would all of a sudden have a huge surge in women on the property by simply changing their policy. I guess my point is, these guys are millionaires and maybe billionaires, they could make it happen if they wanted to. A lot of the possible reasons people are citing sound more like excuses. They don't want to do it, fine, but that doesn't mean they are immune from criticism.

Again, I'm not sure that's actually what's being debated. Of course they have the right to discriminate - no one is saying otherwise that I can find. The question is, why would they, and that is something we'll probably never know for sure as others have pointed out. That said, I'd have a hard time believing it's something like cost or not wanting to build women's amenities. What amenities would they not already have? They allow women to play as guests - do people really think they make them change their shoes in the parking lot and use the men's bathroom while they are on the property? Thanks @DaveP043. I think you and @Golfingdad made similar points to mine at the beginning of the thread but they mostly fell on deaf ears.
-
OK, but saying they should have accepted women (an opinion on the choice the club made) and saying they should be legally forced to accept women are still quite different, aren't they? Sorry if that seems pedantic, but I think it's an important distinction that seems to get lost in these debates. FWIW, I don't think they should be forced to accept women either but I think it's kind of silly not to. Maybe it's partly a generational thing.
-
It seems to me that one "side" is arguing that Muirfield not allowing women members is dumb and outdated, and the other "side" is arguing that it's their right to exclude women as members since they are a private club. Why are the two viewpoints mutually exclusive? Who is arguing that private clubs should be forced to admit women members (an inference that many in this thread seem to be making)? I haven't seen or heard of anyone making the case that they should be forced to accept women. That's very different from saying that it makes no sense to exclude women.

Erik Hitting a Few Chips and Pitches
drmevo replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
What works well for me is to actually keep more weight on my back foot in that situation (the opposite of a normal or tight lie). With this method you can still thump the ground behind the ball and not have to worry about judging how high to float the club. -
I have had the same problem with my grey/navy Motions. I emailed customer service and apparently that color has been discontinued along with a few others, so I could only get a replacement in white, black or white/burnt orange. New colors are due out at the end of September so I guess I'll wait to have them replaced. Hopefully they fix the waterproofing issue by then.

Oddly enough, I didn't have any major problems when playing in the rain. Maybe it's partly an issue of expectations in my case. Also, I always walk, so I probably sweat a lot more than those who ride on really hot days. All in all, they're still great grips in a lot of ways, they might just not be for me when it comes hot weather.

I received the replacement grips as promised on Saturday but I didn't get them installed until last night. I played yesterday with the old ones. The temps were in the mid-80's and I would say it was moderately humid. The grips weren't noticeably slick and I never had to dry them off. I tried the new grips out today. It was right around 90 degrees and higher humidity. I had to wipe the grips down a few times, which is fine and to be expected, but there were still times were I really felt like the grip was slipping between by thumb and forefinger of my right hand at the top of my back swing. Even on chips and pitches I felt the club was going to twist in my hands at times. Overall I don't think there was much difference between old and new unfortunately. I have Dri-Tac grips on my driver and 3 wood and those were both perfectly tacky without ever needing to be wiped down. I know the durability kind of sucks with the Dri-Tacs, and that's partly why I wanted to try PURE, but I'm starting to feel like the PURE performance in high humidity is a deal-breaker. I'm trying to understand how so many people can say the PURE's stay tacky in hot and humid weather. They seem to get more slippery than most stock grips I've tried. I have a hard time believing it gets that much more humid here in southeastern NH than other places. I will probably give them the rest of the season and depending how it goes I might go back to Dri-Tacs.

Do your grips have the white painted rings at both ends? I was told that on the grips using the newer compound, which they are sending me to try, the rings are unpainted and only the logo uses white. I'm hoping they just had a bad batch or maybe briefly tried a different formula that didn't work out.

Yes! Sorry my first post is a critique, but I've had the exact same experience. I purchased and installed Pure Pro's over the winter, and during the cooler weather early in the season they were great, but now that it's hot and humid out they can get very slick after a few holes. It's to the point where it feels like the club is twisting in my hands during the transition. I've tried wiping them down before every shot and cleaning with Windex every few rounds but the problem remains. I have never had this much trouble with other grips. Another strange thing that's happened is that the grips have twisted quite a bit on some clubs (especially the longer ones). The PURE logo on my driver was very bowed, for example, and the top and bottom alignment marks were way off from each other even though I had lined them up during installation. I used a wrap of blue painter's tape to build them up just slightly but that hasn't shifted at all. It doesn't really bother me but it seems like another thing that isn't supposed to happen. I emailed customer service and they told me that they recently changed the formula of the rubber and that they would send me replacements to try. I'll provide an update once I've had a chance to test them out. I really like the concept of the grips and their performance in dry weather is great, so I'm hoping for the best.
