Tiger fan or not??? Watching the golf the other day and was captivated by the great mans skill and sheer professionalism. Turned to the father and said he is amazing and he says "can't stand the man, he is sooo cocky and arrogant". Though i would run it past you guys if you like tiger or not. (alough i dont like Mickleson but not for discussion on this thread)

Are Kids Really Hitting It 330 Or Are They Just Bragging?
popey replied to RX Phoenix's topic in Golf Talk
I am a 16 year old. Not the biggest built like some kids you see these days. On saturday i was hitting the ball the furthest i have every in my life and tried out a new titleist 904 fairway with stiff shaft. I got to the par 4 16th and hit the 3 wood off the tee. It is a long tight hole that is around 500 yards and all the way up hill. It play about 530 into the wind. After hitting a great 3 wood off the tee into the fairway i hit another fairway from around 230-240. Got up to the green and found that i had flown the green by around 20 yards. Considering it is the middle of winter and get no roll on the ball i think that it is a long way to hit the ball. I think it was mostly to do with the new stiffs haft on the club that was right for me as the ball just flew. PS i have now bought my own titleist 904 and i am loving it. -
What a round today!!!!!!!!! Played best round of my life 75!!! Did not hit the ball well at all but the short game was amazing. Shot 5 over on the front and coming back -1. On 17th i lipped out for birdie and the round could of been even better. It was 1 degree out there and was very cold but the though of finishing the best round of my life kept me going. Now im going to play tomorrow as i want to better the score, (which is proberbly a big mistake)

Got to be the British OPEN!!! To win the british open at st Andrews means that you have fulfiled your golfing life! The courses require so much more skill and imagination rather than the lush course in the US. I think it should be like the masters and played at St Andrews every year!!!

I take it you work on the TM tour van. How did u get into that i want to do that when i finish in skool. Did you take a special course and could you advise me what i can do to get into the golf club business.

I want the opinion of you guys, what the best job in golf? I no everyone would just say pro so im narrowing it down. There are so many jobs out there what would be the best? I thought that being the club designer for one of the big manufactors would be fun job. Get to meet the pros and be the person behind them winning the event. Also i though being Tigers personal ball designer woudl be good. To make a handfull of balls a year and check them all would be a good job. Not only getting to meet the man himself but to work with/for him.

Best - Tiger Beautiful - Luke Donald (the way he hits long irons) Ugliest - Between Furyk and Paul Casey I hate the stupid finish Casey has to lean forward at the finish. I no why he has to do it but it looks stupid but like Furyk it works, so i dont mind if i would have that swing

In th UK we get a really rough deal on clubs. Not only are they so much more expensive we have so little choice. I have been to America and the golf shops are amazing. I walked in and straight away there someone welcoming you and asking if you want to try any clubs. The launch monitors are working and able to give reliable readings. While in the UK in go into american golf and rarely is the launch monitor working and they dont ever have enough staff to give advice and allow you to buy clubs. Also i want to try the titleist 735, 775, TM R7 TP, TM LT2's and something in the mizuno line yet american golf only has the 735 and the LT2's. This means that i have got to go to another shop to try them out. Although i am going to go try out the clubs and order of the internet. Save on average £100. Someone needs to get golf shops in the UK in shape, perhaps one day if i got enough money i will open a chain.

I know this may be in the wrong place but i need to say it. I understand these people in the magazines are skilled pros that are testing this equipment but at times it annoys me because from one year to the next the top picks are always the same. I love reading todays golfer as when doing gear tests they will give lots of reasons for the top picks. They have a gold, silver and bronze. When they did a drivers test they had 2 driver in the gold place as for the catergory the driver was focused at it was perfect. Also in TG they did the biggest balls test ever. They did not decide what the best bal was but they tested every ball in the 3 price catergories and at the end of the test said that i was important not pick a winning as a ball is a personal preference so they do not want to persuade the readers to buying a certain ball. Hats off to TG the best golf magazine in the world!! (at least the UK)

I cant stand the things!!!!! I only carry 13 clubs and could easily find foom for one but i dont want one!!! Carry a sand wedge for all those tricky little shots but always try to use a lower lofted club around the greens to get the ball on the deck and 75% get up and down. I find it easier to open up a 56 to flop the ball. I heard a while back that the R and A and the USPGA were considering banning lob wedges to bring more skill into the game. I have not heard any more but the fact that they have not rulled it out and that Tiger has shown his support to the idea that it might happen in the near future.

Is it just me or am i the only person who does not get great results out of hybrids? My dad has a TM rescue and i borrow it from time to time and i just cant hit it. I am a straight hitter of he golf ball and can hit my 4 iron pretty decent, i though about a hybrid but i just cant get any consitency out of them. If i have a shot that would require me to hit a hybrid i woudl much rather hit a high cut with my 3 wood. It stops quicker and i knoiw just about where it is going to go every time.

I no that last season westwood did use a ping zing 2 iron. Dont ask why but he did. Although im not tlaking bout irons im talking bout the driver that they use and if there are any tests in place on the PGA tour or at any of the majors testing the equipment. Are they actually hitting that much further than amateurs or is it the club doing the talking?

Has anyone read about Dave Pelz short game bible where he talks about Jack Nicklaus. He talks about PEI (percentage error index). He says that for his full swing his PEI was 42nd on tour, for putting he was 25th, short game 35th, sand play 128th, although he was a good lag putter so aimed away from bunkers. This seems a bit poor for such a great player of our ggreat game. I sure if Dave Pelz plotted the same data for Tiger then im sure tiger would be in the top 10 for all if not most of them. I cannot judge in this arguement as i have not been able to see Jack Nicklaus play but i have seen Tiger so i no that if Jack is better that Tiger he was one heck of a golfer. They both have there positives like for tiger the way has changed the game of golf but are we forgetting one of the most important things in Jack favour, he is one heck of a guy. He would not ignore his fans. Tiger has set up the Tiger foundation which has helped a lot of people. BUT JACK IS A GREAT GUY AND THAT STANDS HIM VERY HIGH IN MY EYES No one is ever going to agree on this unless like in the new rocky film Jack is transformed to his peak in a one of match with tiger. (i could be onto something here)

I have wondered that with all the test of golf clubs to see if they are legal or illegal does anyone actually test the equipment the pros use. The pros are so close to the makes of the clubs that they could get them to make one that looks legal but has a slightly higher COR or over 460cc. Im not accusing any pros of cheating here but are there any tests in place to test to see the clubs they are using are legal? The golfing companies have shown that anything is possible with clubs and so it could be easy to add a few yards to there drivers. Also are there any test on grooves and golf clubs?

I totally agree!! It would be okay if he was a good golf who could win a few tournaments and hit some good shots from time to time but he is not. He need to sort his game out everytime he goes on the course not his hair!!! I love luke Donald, he is a really good player, not outspoken and has a nice simple style!!! I can stand Lefty either, sort those man boobs out!!! And the fact the he just aims left and pulls everything does not really show much skill!

I love the 07 version. I've got my player to level 11 on everything!!! The one thing i dont like is that to make it harder they have made the computer players better. This means at one tournament i shot 59,58,59,60 and there were computer players shooting 65,55,59,60. They need to improve the tournament play on the next one so that it is harder to shoot low numbers. I love the game!!! and im now playing the UK major at st andrews after completing the team tour. It will be the closest i ever come to winning the greatest prize in golf.

Does anyone have any golf supersitions? Like using the same numbered ball or only a certain coloured ball. I have a weird one where in my right pocket i put my phone and then in the left have one ball and a tee. (thats not the ball i play with) I have found that when i do not do this i dont play as well! It may be phycological or it may be something to do with the weigthing. Ive heard quite a few of the pro will only use a certain numbered ball and Colin Montgemerie only uses white tees as not to thing of water hazards. Does anyone know strange things pros do? Popey

The strange thing is that i shot the best round of my life yesterday yet i didnt warm up! It was freezing cold, wind against into all the par 5's and i shot a 77 (+7). Bit peed off that i parred the first 5. I finished the front nine 3 over and then on the 10th had a triple!!!! Back to the warming up!! I normally get to the course bout 1 hour before and then head straight to the putting green. Hit a few putts until i get bored and then head to the range. Warm up with half a bucket of balls, and then head to the short game practise area for bout 20 mins and then back to the putting green. The one thing i believe more important that hitting balls is that i have about 20 putts from 1 or 2 feet just so i have confidence before heading to the tee. It doesnt matting if i miss one i dont start again. I think it is more of a mental thing so that i prepared and it gives me something else to focus on. Does any one no any good strechting warming up exercises as even if i go to the range i still feel stiff on the first tee. (any links would be welcome)

THe only thing that is putting me off the 735's are the price! In the UK i have seen the average price at £599 Nooooo i dont want to pay that much although i would if it helped my game!!!!

I am going to buy a new set of irons as i have the money from christmas. I went into american golf the day and was looking at the irons. I am going to go in there one day and use the launch monitor and get properly fit. I was looking at the Titleist 775, titleist 735, TM r7 and TM LT2. I was wondering has anyone had any good/bad experiences of these clubs? What would you recommend to be the best of a medium ball striker who is looking to improve? Also how do the clubs wear as my last set of clubs have scratches and dig all over them?
-
I have heard that it has to be sent back to the manufacturer so that they can cut it down and then re-balance the head to the shaft!!! Im not completely sure of this but if it is an expensive putter your best not to ruin it. Speak to your local pro he should be able to tell you more. Although will the negative of the balance be out weight by the ablitily to put better??? Its true that the average putter length on tour is 34inches yet the average sold in shops is 35inches!!1 THe shorter the putter the esier it is to putt with it!!! I use a 33inche putter and it is amazing.

Have you not heard that Tom Sites at Nike has built a 600cc driver. Paul Casey has tested it and say that it goes miles and impossible to slice or draw!!! Now i want that club!!! He did it to test how much MOI and the tampoline effect can increase. He has also built an ignite ignite. (Does exactly what it says) AS you hit the ball flames come out of the top of the clubface. I no that is cool and should become legal for amateurs!!!! Although i would not trust my best mate with it while having a bad day with the driver!!
