If you want to try some different Pings you can meet me at the driving range at Knights Play in Apex this weekend. I can bring Eye 2's 1 degree flat stiff flex shaft, Eye 2+'s standard lie regular flex (copies), G10's 1.5 degrees upright soft regular shaft, G15's standard lie regular flex , G20's standard lie and regular flex. None of the above is available for sale, just to try out a few swings. The proshop there has several demo clubs as well. I do have some clubs for sale if you are interested.

Some retailers like Golf Galaxy have access to Ping's database anytime.

My local Golfsmith in Raleigh has the worst customer service of ANY retailer I've been to in the last 3 years. You can browse for hours without anyone even acknowledging your existence. There is only one helpful, friendly person there, Dave, but most folks there are very rude. Now today I find out they have eliminated all used clubs from their website. Golfsmith is my absolute last choice and I will only go there when I'm desperate for a particular item. Golf Galaxy is much better to deal with. They deserve to be bought out. Hopefully something good will come out of it. It's too bad too because I seem to always be in the market for something golf related. Perhaps the real lesson in all of this is to buy from your local fitters and pro shops. Especially when the major brands all have price restrictions.

Kevin and Zach's round on Saturday only took 4 hours, 5 minutes, where's the problem?
-
I had a first look at the site today. Very disappointing. I have been looking for a set of Ping Eye 2 BeCu irons and found their prices higher than anywhere. But the most disgusting pricing tactic I saw employed was separating the sand and lob wedges out of full iron sets and selling the individual irons for up to $200! Really?, $200 for an almost 30 year old wedge?

Which flight/travel bag.
dmnoland replied to Marc118's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
SKB. I do not trust the airlines (or TSA) with my clubs in any soft sided case. Look on Craigslist. I've bought 2 standard sizes for $20 each and the staff bag size for $40. -
Good drivers for high handicap
dmnoland replied to bodeman1329's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Check around and see if anyone is selling their demo drivers. I paid $100 for the R11 and $150 for the RBZ (both demos). -
Yes, because my Ping tour wedges have a different shaft and I want to keep the same shaft throughout my irons. Now if I get the older AWT shaft in the i20's I can keep my current wedges.
-
I have G10's and 15's. I have also demoed the G20's and found no difference at all between the G15's and 20's. In fact, I like the AWT shafts in the G15's more than the CFS shafts in the G20's. Something to consider and it might save you a few bucks.

Good drivers for high handicap

I have struggled with the driver for 35 years. Last year I finally broke down and took lessons. I went through TM R11, Ping G10 and finally settled on TM RBZ. It's stupid easy to hit. -
I've only hit the i20's but they do feel like butter when you put a good swing on them. I'm planning on gaming a split set between i20 LW thru 7 iron and G10 or G15 6 thru 4 iron. I simply have trouble hitting my long irons.

TM RBZ driver and Ping Redwood Piper putter. Expensive day. -
So I have an old Ping B60 that I love. It started out its life as a 35"er but I had It cut down to 33". My swing guru thinks that I need to cut it down another inch or two but the thing has already gotten much lighter. Since I'm already gripping down to the very end right at the steel, I've been thinking that re-gripping with a longer belly grip would both get me off the steel and restore some of the swing weight. Any thoughts?

You could definitely tell what Bubba was wearing walking down the path from the 18th to the scoring room. I miss the sound of metal spikes.

It's a no brainer, the 2 clubs I've had in my bag for about 20 years, my putter and 64 degree wedge. I wish that I could be that comfortable with every club in my bag, I just might play better.

Am I stupid to buy a RBZ 3w?
dmnoland replied to Chris Stewart's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The real beauty of the RBZ 3 is that it really is the best launching FW off of the deck. Unfortunately the thing is so long it just doesn't fit my needs as far as distance gaps go. If I needed a new 3 or 4 wood I'd be all over it. -
Why would you drop the cash on a club before finding out if it will work for you? I've said this here before , I dislike TaylorMade, I really dislike white headed clubs, I even dislike the sound of the clubface of the RBZ driver BUT The RBZ is the longest , straightest, and easiest driver I have ever hit, thus I bagged one. I'm not one to argue with results. That being said, everyone of our 14 clubs are a very personal decision from my 10 year old Callaway fairways to my brand new driver and irons, right down to my 20 year old putter and 64 degree wedge. You have got to figure out what works for you!

Adjustments on TaylorMade RBZ driver??
dmnoland replied to dlance's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This week I bought the RBZ and was wondering the same. Both the booklet and website were completely worthless in answering any questions. So I called Taylormade this afternoon and even the product representative didn't know, he had to put me on hold for 5 minutes to go and find out. Alright, I'm sure we know that the 2 settings on either side of standard are +/-.75 degrees of loft with a total difference of 3 degrees. The other three are standard loft with an increased lie angle and +/- .75 degrees with a total difference of 1.5 degrees. So that accounts for all 8 settings but what the guy at Taylormade didn't know was how much different the lie angle was. Since I am only 5'5" and don't play anything steeper than standard,, plus I was running out of patience for what I thought was a very basic question, I just let it go. -
Need New Irons...But Can't Afford 'Em
dmnoland replied to danielgaz's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ping charges $18 + shipping per set to adjust the lie angle but they will only change up to 3 degrees. -
Has anyone ever thought of asking the in clubhouse first? Often I get an extra 30-60 minutes in the morning before work and will stop at the course/range on my way to work. It's not enough time to warm up and hit a whole bucket but I have asked if I could stuff the rest in my bag to hit on my next visit and have never been denied. Now granted I almost always practice at the same facility 2-4 times a week and all the staff know me. Plus I would never hit their range balls at another range. I just don't see the problem with shagging the extras you already paid for and will use within the next 12-72 hours. Golf is expensive enough.

Any ideas, drills, or explanations of feeling for the proper vertical drop and delivering the club from the inside? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I myself had been searching for the same feeling/swing path till last week when I was just screwing around at the range. There were a bunch of stubborn geese nesting out in the middle of the hundred yard green and wanted to gently drop in some high, soft shots to scare them away so I could actually use the intended target without killing them. Well I over-clubbed by 2 and slowly hit my PW as soft as I could. All of the sudden my shot shape and the feeling off the face as well as the distance had suddenly and dramatically changed. At first, not being sure of what I was doing different (and better) I forgot about the birds and just tried to replicate everything I had done previously. The feeling in my mind was a long, low, slow, wide, straight back takeaway and at the top, the initial trigger to start the downswing is the feeling of leading the downswing with my right elbow towards the ball. That trigger has helped me to get my hips through the shot more than anything I have tried in the last 2 years. Just a happy accident I guess. I have read in the past of players feeling like they are putting their right elbow in their right pants pocket but that never quite clicked with me. I just think that if you go low and slow while over exaggerating things a bit you will find what your searching for.

1. Name brand, Ping, Callaway, Titleist, Taylormade, etc. 2. Used clubs. I've been playing for 35 years and while I have a decent game I still usually buy used. Depending on where you live, Craigslist can be a great source for super cheap clubs. 3. At a minimum, get a static if not dynamic fitting. 4. Lessons.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
dmnoland replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my Dad a couple of years ago. I've got his clubs and his fathers irons. I bought some pool cue wall mounts to display their clubs. -
For some people (like me) it takes some time to adapt to new irons. When I went from soft regular to regular flex it took 6 months of both play and practice to get comfortable with the new shafts. I was doubting my decision so much that I put my old irons back into play every other session/round until it became quite clear that my swing, shot shape, score and distance now dictated that I had indeed made the correct change to stiffer shafts.
-
Why? Shaft stiffness is relative to swing speed in controlling trajectory and direction, not distance.
