  1. Need a bit of both. If you're bombing it on every hole but then taking 4 more shots to get in then you're screwed, but if you're constantly taking an extra stroke off the tee you're not doing too hot either. I'd take a shorter, more consistent drive and a well put together short game.

    Fun

We always play WOLF just because of the team vs team aspect that constantly changes throughout the game. The scores usually end up close enough where no one owes anyone else too much money.
  3. Dude, props to you for playing in the heat today.
  4. Played a relatively difficult course today, Peabody Meadows, in Peabody. I played it last year and it got the best of me to say the least. Not much room off the fairway, lots of blind drives, high rough, quick enough greens, just a good challenge of a course. I played the other day and couldn't hit the ball the first 5 holes and realized I wasn't turning my hips at all, and after that I played the last 13 holes at +2 so I was hoping I would have some of that mojo working with me today. Well, it did. I shot a 79 (par 71). Shot a 37 on the back where my scorecard read 5, then all 4's the rest of the way. My driver was working all day. Everything had a slight fade, 260-275 yards, good stuff. My wedges and lower irons were off a bit which was really strange because those have been great lately. I haven't calculated my GIR and FIR and putts for the round, but my putter was hot. Anything inside 10 feet I was all over. Anything long got close to where I didn't have to even think about the 2nd putt. Very happy overall with the way I played. Two months ago I read the Stack and Tilt book and incorporated a lot of the movements into my current swing. I try to stay more centered over the ball, keep my movement back to a minimum, take the club away deep and so far it's really helped out my game. 80 last week, 79 this week, things are working well. I've been hitting the ball a lot more consistently since incorporating S&T; and I'm really hoping I can put a round together right around par sometime this year. We'll see.
  5. I carry 3 wedges. PW, SW and a 60*. The 60 I MIGHT use once a round when I absolutely need to get the ball high really quick like maybe carry a trap and have no green to work with. When I'm close to the green, say 40-50 yards, I don't want to be taking a full swing with a club, I'd much rather have a 3/4 or 1/2 swing with my SW. Less clubs to worry about yardages and such too.
  6. I used to always choose the range, but lately I feel like I get more warmed up putting, especially if I'm not used to the course. Few chips around the green, take a few practice swings from the rough just brushing the rough and then I'm good to go.
  7. I was there at 6:30 AM and by 7:30 I was cooked. I usually play at Granite Fields in Kingston. They're really good about walking on at 6 or 6:30 and getting out before any "official" tee times start at 7. For $40, it's in great shape, close to my house and I can get a round in and be home by 11 or so.
  8. It was hot as all hell today at the course. Only 87 degrees or so but the humidity was insane. Played at my local course. I had it working off the tee all day. 10/14 fairways hit and I hit all 4 par 3 greens off the tee. 3 of the fairways I missed were fine, 2 of them on par 5's where I had no problems at all with my second shot, another was hitting 7i off the tee that found the first cut and the last was a legit poor drive on the first shot of the day. I also had my irons working. Every iron really. I hit a 5i from about 200 just to the edge of the green, a 7i 160 out of the rough to about 12 feet, constant PW either to center of greens or to 10-15 feet but I just couldn't get the putts to drop. I did sink a 40 ft to save a par on one hole that I got in trouble, but besides that I just couldn't convert any of the birdie putts. 2 three putts on the day, both hurt because take those away and I'm breaking 80. I shot an 80 on the day, 42/38. On the back I had 7 pars. Just parring everything left and right. No birdies on the day as I just couldn't get those putts to fall, but also just one double on the first hole where I sent my drive wayward. Overall, just a great round for me right now. My driver had a left to right on it, but by bringing my hands in deep and trying to stop my steepness/OTT I was able to keep it in play, and not only in play but long. I broke 270 3 times and one time according to course yardages I was around 290 which is just insane for me as I'm usually not a very long hitter. My irons were also long. The 7i out of the rough 160 was high and landed soft. It was like the power was there when I needed it and I felt confident enough to go to it, although most of the time I just went with my normal distances. Very satisfied with this round. The putting could have been better but I'm not going to complain about an 80 right now. I'm going out to Colorado later this week and I'm going to try and get out a few times out there.

    2 Iron

Couple of us played a 1i in high school, some 12 years ago or so. That's really the last time I've seen them used regularly.
  10. I know what you mean with the overswing. There's probably too much wrist break back there too and I know my arms come away from my chest at the top, so if I can figure out how to cut that down I can probably solve some other issues too. The flip at the end is actual pretty uncommon for me and my iron flight is normally very consistent if nothing else. Very few fat/thin shots in general. Thanks for the feedback!
  11. 7 iron. About 2 weeks ago I started trying to implement S&T; into my swing. I didn't realize how much of a weight shift I still had going back but I'm striking the ball very well. I feel like I'm keeping myself centered above the ball and I feel comfortable with it. 7i goes about 160 with a slight left to right that comes from my OTT. I used to really cut across the ball to the point where my divots were pointing at my left toe. They are a lot more straight now. I know there are faults (lack of hip turn, hands don't come through the ball great) but that contact sounds awesome if you care to turn the sound on. Also uploaded the video to swing academy for sloooo-mo. http://www.swingacademy.com/videoPlayer.aspx?id=6829
  12. They said somewhere around 12 I think. There were 7 holes where she couldn't carry the distance off the tee to get to the fairway.
  13. Pretty sure she was a 4.9 or around there and from the articles I read on a few holes she couldn't even reach the red tees because they had her playing from the tips. She made one par the whole round, on the 12th hole, and jumped up and down hugging her caddy (Corey Pavin I think) like she had won something. They said the course was playing like a par 78 for her, but still, 40 strokes over that? I think having a woman in it playing from the mens tees was more of a publicity stunt this year than it was in years past. Another article said she was only driving around 200-225 yards. How do they ever expect someone to break 100 playing a 7,000+ yard course maxing out at 225 with their driver? here is one article about it http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/u...hallenge-myers and another: http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/b...n-contest.html
  14. I love playing inside 100 yards, but I only use my sand wedge with various swings. I carry a 56* wedge, but it's really just for flopping the ball close to the green if I need to carry a bunker or have no green to work with. I grew up just carrying a PW and SW so I've always stuck with just those 2 and PW is closer to 120 to 130. I'm not a huge fan of using so many different wedges, it seems like it gives people some excuses not to hit a good shot, saying they should have used their 56 instead of their 60 or something.
  15. I play solo a lot of the time, although I'm starting to dislike it more and more. They start taking tee times at 7am at my local course, but a lot of people will show up as early as 5:30 to tee off. The management is really cool with it and teeing off at 6:30AM makes for a nice quick round and home by 11 or so. If I don't go really early I've found that you can just show up at a lot of courses and sneak on with a 3-some or 2-some. A lot of the time one guy won't show up and you can take their spot.
  16. I've been golfing for a good part of my life but last year started taking it seriously again. I shot some good rounds last year, as low as 76 and broke 80 a few other times as well but towards the end of the year my swing was a mess as I was coming down really steep on the ball and slicing it everywhere. When I started back up again this year everything was even worse. I threw some poor scores up early this season and I wasn't happy with the way things were going and I knew I needed to make a change rather than just work with the "power fade". I was going to take some lessons (I've never really taken them since I was a kid) but first I started checking out Stack and Tilt. I ordered the book, read it through, really liked what I saw, took it out on the range for 3 times and I finally brought it out on the course today. Overall it was a very positive experience. I shot an 87 but I was hitting the ball longer, straighter and so much more consistent than I have in quite some time. My putting was miserable, hence the higher score, but I know I was striking it well nearly all day. I think I got tired towards the end of the round because I couldn't keep my hands in on my driver and I was coming OTT a lot and putting the ball right. Oddly, even with the driver going right on the last 5 holes I had 3 pars, 1 bogey and 1 birdie. My irons were great all day, everywhere from 5-SW really. I did use my 3H a few times which I hit well too. It was definitely a good round in terms of getting used to the new swing but the driver was just killing me... and I 3-putted 3 holes which is not like me as I love putting. I'm usually a very unconscious golfer (for lack of a better term). I don't have swing thoughts during my back swing, I don't recite anything to myself, I just swing. It's always been something that I've taken for granted because now I find myself reciting certain things during my setup and swing. I'm very impressed with the S&T; methodology as a whole though. I can tell when I do something wrong and and can figure out how to correct it. The driver today ticked me off towards the end, but even the misses weren't catastrophic. The biggest thing S&T; and this new swing is doing for me is making it fun to learn again. It's cool to go to the range and have to concentrate on something new instead of just simulating holes, picking targets etc. Work is going to be busy as hell this week so I'm not sure I can get out during the week, but I've got a match up with my uncles this weekend so I'll have to see if I can at least hit the range.
  17. Yup, that's the one. It's short and to the point, kind of how they want the swing to be thought of. There's a lot of info about swinging and ball striking in general. They do a good job of not laying it on too thick with the "This is the only way to swing" stuff too. If you want to take in as much info as you can about the golf swing, it's worth it.
  18. Getting the book ($15 off Amazon delivered) is a smart move. You don't have to live and die by what they say, but a lot of the facts on ball striking and swinging in general are worth reading. As for the marketing, if they said "S&T;: Another way to swing" or something like that, then no one would be intersted. They don't sell drivers that "Hit the ball as long as every other driver out there". Regardless, 100% worth the read.
  19. I've been playing golf off and on since I was a kid while getting more serious the last 2 years and a week or two ago I started implementing S&T; into my current swing. I've never hit the ball more consistently than I have the last few weeks, and even better I can tell what I'm doing when I swing. To me the swing feels natural and makes sense. If nothing else, reading the book and listening to some of the fundamentals behind the swing will give you some great insight on the golf swing as a whole and and give you some things to think about.
  20. I love it when you see someone tee up a pitching wedge like an inch off the ground and some crazy shot comes shooting out as a result. I have a thing where on Par 3's I always use someone's broken tee to tee my ball up, but I do the same as others have stated, just rest it on the ground really. It's probably more of a mental thing as this point.
  21. Your level totally depends on how much you put into it. For me personally, I picked the game up when I was younger, just kind of tinkered with it so when the chance to play at work or school or whatever came up I would be able to be competent enough to play. For years and years I was just happy being able to get around the course for those 3 or 4 times a season I'd go, but at some point if you really catch the bug and start practicing more you can start to improve at a pretty dramatic rate.
  22. I'm surprised they haven't caught on more in those golfing communities where people have private carts and such. I think most of them are battery powered so you're just recharging them at night, not wasting gas, but solar would be pretty cool.
  23. I've actually heard some really good things about it. My cousin has one and loves to hit it a few times a week at the range just as a check up kind of. I've read some reviews online about it that have always sounded positive as well. If you feel like you're having trouble keeping your hands in front of the ball and hitting the ball first before the ground then it may be worth a shot.
  24. Just started implementing S&T; into my swing this weekend. I've been thinking of it for a while and started watching some videos (Nick's included) and got the book the other day. I went to the range and all the motions felt very natural to me. I've always had a strong OTT swing that results in a "power fade" when I get lazy and I really liked the feeling of the weight staying on the front and I'm still working on getting my hands in because I'm very used to just bringing them back. Overall though I was very happy with the way I was hitting it. I was just really surprised at how natural the 'weight forward' notion felt to me. Definitely excited to get on the course in the morning and see if I can carry it over.
  25. I've had numerous injuries from snowboarding, basketball and baseball so there really isn't any room for golf injuries. After "dropping in" off a garage while snowboarding in Colorado and really messing up my back, I pay very close attention to constantly keeping my lower back and legs strong.
