For me I feel I would be more consistent if I concentrate on good solid smooth swing, but i tend to unconsciously swing for the next town over. When it does come together, my drives are nice. It is getting better as my play time goes up, so i know its more of a training thing with me. I also feel more confident when I start a hole nice. This past week my pro lesson taught me something about ball striking with my irons, and my driver, but I really tried to make up for bad drives with good iron work. Which i did very nicely. More than anything, confidence is a huge determining factor in how well high cappers and or newbs play. Alot contributes to that, but not the right thread to elaborate.

I am glad it worked for getting your slice fixed. I do hate though when a pro at the end of the videos says "lets see if it works", then goes off the hit a great shot. It always leaves me with the, well no shit sherlock, I would not be listening to your advice if you could not hit a straight drive:)

Last year, i could have cared less, this year its exact opposite. I am golf 24/7. Its very frustrating to be a novice newb:) I want so badly to play better, but an enjoying getting out there alot to practice. I play atleast once a week but hit the driving range atleast once if not twice weekly. Its very close to my work so we head up during lunch hr.

well, my lesson seemed rewarding. I worked on my slice with the driver with him and like when you bring your car to a mechanic and the problem disappears, the first few i felt embarrassed. They were straight and long. Then i hit one good slice. We reviewed it in the computer and found i did not have a good follow through. my right foot was planted and my club was vertical. I worked on the follow through and hit them almost perfect. Then he transitioned me though my irons and wedges. I was way off on what i thought was the right aiming point. He basically hit me through a mock hole with out the putting, to see if i can go from swinging a chip shot, then off to a full swing (w/backswing) driver or iron. I was not able to that good. I have something to work on. He also said i was not putting the tee high enough for the driver. All in all, a productive lesson.

That is the forst thing i noticed when i saw this. I went home and hit a ton of the practice balls i have in a much more upright position and it felt much better. I think i was coming so off plane because i would try to make my spine more vertical in order to ease the twisting motion of my upper body. I played 18 yesterday and did a little better off the tee. Not perfect by no means. I also tryed to square my shoulders to my target more. It did not cure the slice 100%, but it brought it to a point yesterday were I was able to work with it more. Thanks for the help guys. I will post a new video soon, after I take my lesson today.

Thanks alot. I will start to work on it. Like i said in a previous post the follow thorugh did not come natural so i am working on it, the same goes for the weight shift. It just feels awkward. I am seeing a pro for a lesson today, so hopefully he can walk me through the proper motions then i will have a feel for how its supposed to be and work from there. ???????

Thanks guys. i downloaded a free analyzer software and was able to determine that my swing plane is way off. I go up on a decent plane, but come down about 12" higher at the top, and my hands are about 4" above original address. I also determined i was standing to far away from the ball, hunching over to much, which resulted in a natural movement up when i got to the top of the back swing, resulting in a huge plane shift up. Also possibly making the after impact swing look the way it does. It never felt natural or fluid to me when i tried to go around more. My body would feel real tense. I did some practice swings last night just getting more vertical and it feels completely different.

Hey guys, here is my swing. I have only been playing seriously for a few about a month now. I think i found a major flaw, i am pulling my club head in to far on the up swing. I have a wicked slice and trying to figure out why. Please help. I would love to hit 800 yds and hit 100% of the fairways, but at this point even hitting 180yds and 50% would make my day . Thanks in advance guys.

Can Online Swing Instructor be Really Effective?
stacks04 replied to PuttPutt's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I did one last week to see how my swing looked and to understand my slice. A simple grip change helped alot with it. For 25 bucks it was well worth it. I am going to a pro face to face next week for a one on one lesson, where like said above, i could be forced into a better position for what i may be doing wrong, thus feeling what it is supposed to be. It is easier to practice something when you know what it is supposed to be like. -
I am fairly new to the game. Last year i bought a cheap set of clubs from play it again sports to see if i liked playing the game. I wasn't sure because i tend to get frustrated easy and just walk away from stuff. For some reason, golf, although the most frustrating thing i do, has got me sucked in. With that said, i was never good with the cheap driver that came in that set, it/I sliced horrible. I have since corrected the slice alot, with my other driver, Adams 303cc tight lies. I hit that and all my irons pretty well, but am looking for a bit more distance out of my driver. With the Adams, i am averaging about 200-220yds according to my driving range signs. If i swing for the moon and actually make contact solidly, it will fly to the fence which is 250yd. I just don't have alot of control swinging like that. I am looking for a good driver to utilize my normal swing and gain some distance. With my old crappy driver even with a slice they would fly out to 240yd. They would just be out 40-50 off to the right. I know i have more distance left in my swing if i was to use a better club. I guess i am looking for club ideas that would let me take the hr long drive to my local golfers warehouse and have a useful visit test hitting specific clubs, not what they are trying to clear out of stock . Thanks guys for the assistance.

I am happy its come north. The sport of football is great all year, then turns into a marketing gimmick for the last game. Its always played in some sissy azz warm land, on some fake grass. Its about time the men that play the sport will have to act like men and get cold. Half the teams play in the cold a good portion of the year, its about time they get rewarded with some home field advantage. I hope it snows the dickens that day:) If i could scrounge up a ticket i will be there.

The (often overlooked) Importance of Fundamentals
stacks04 replied to thrasher's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I haven't played a ton of golf as of yet. I really only got started last year, but was determined to practice and play more. We (a couple guys from work) started practicing weekly and now trying to play the same. I am self taught, just line up and hit the ball, and had developed a stupid bad slice. I taped my swing, sent to a pro who does cheap online videos lessons just to see what he thought. Well it was the best 25 bucks i ever spent. He told me to strengthen my grip from 1 knuckle to 2 and what a difference it has made. It was terrible uncomfortable at first but i did a week of practice swings just getting my muscles adjusted. I went to the range and shot almost perfect straight. Played nine last friday and hit par on 3 holes, having my best round so far. Still horrible to most peoples standards, but for the life of me i cant shake the new golfer nerves once i hit the course. Once i get my game flowing it only improves through the holes. -
Hello folks, I am new to this site and really new to golf. I have been to the driving range many times over the years, but never really considered golf as my sport. I always thought it to be boring, that is until i played for the first time 2 years ago. I borrowed clubs when i went on vacation with some friends and played 18 in the Poconos PA. It was another year until i played again this time i had bought a set of cheapo's and did horrible but had a ton of fun. I wanted to play more last year but we had 2 losses in our family and a bunch of things that just took up time. One of the losses was my wifes grand dad whom was a big golfer. We got along great and he knew how much i enjoyed the sport even though i had only gone a few times. He left his clubs to me when he died and because of this i am taking some instruction and practicing alot. I went and played 18 last weekend and will be going more frequently this year. The challenge is the most frustrating thing i have ever done, but i go with the mindset of fun over frustration and it seems to work. Gramps left me a set if dci 96 clubs, an adams tight lies driver, an odessey 2 ball putter, and some misc wedges. He also left a top flite iron set. I plan on using the titleist irons and adding the driver to my bag. From this day on i am going to learn on the titleist so i get used to them.

I am a Tiger fan. I have just recently gotten into golf and Tiger was the man. Sad to see what a mistake he has made has done to his life and career.
