  1. wow, that's amazing..
  2. Wordle 261 3/6 ⬜🟩🟩⬜🟨 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  3. Just started day 1.. couldn't film it, but will look into this moving forward..
  4. When he's on the tee-box and he does happen to hit the ball on the back-swing though, wouldn't rules 6.2b(5) and 6.2b(6) come into play and he could re-tee without a penalty?
  5. here the days are finally getting longer again, so I can get in a 9-hole round on a weekday after work.. not too long and this can be extended to 18 holes
  6. I'm in a whatsapp group of about 15 golfers and organise a tournament every month.. to keep things fair (we have players from hcp 10 to 52) we go by stableford points and have prizes for winner and second, as well as a sleeve of balls for 4 "closest to the pin".. we also have pins for birdies and eagles, which we buy from a local wildlife foundation (so even more reason to make birdies, as with each birdie then get money from us). Everyone in the group pays a few bucks monthly so we can pay for the prizes all year round and the money that's left over at the end of the year is then used for a dinner for all. At the end of the year we also have one extra prize for the player who won the most championships during the year.
  7. thanks! at this point I have already paid for it, but I think such high fees may scare some potential buyers off.. I only saw the link to ebay for "international buyers", so that's where I went. I was not aware whether there'd be others over here with copies.
  8. I break 90 quite regularly.. was close to breaking 80 a few times, but only managed it on a par 68 course with a 79 (so I won't let that count, I want it to be on at least a par-70 course). Also I don't count the time on Toptracer when I shot a 73 on St. Andrews. 😉 I did just purchase LSW, but was a bit surprised to see that shipping and import fees to EU cost as much as the book itself.
  9. My goals for this year: - get to hcp 15 (I'm 19 now, which is mostly because of difficult conditions, but I count every round I play.. I was at 16.8 in the summer when the conditions were better) - play more new courses and go on more golf trips. I already started this with being on Madeira in December/January and I organized and went on an extended weekend trip to Portugal in February with some friends who I regularly play with. Flew there on Friday, played Friday, Saturday and Sunday and returned back on Monday. A great getaway from the cold weather, and even the wives that joined the trip had a great time (despite not playing themselves). - get more consistent with my ball striking and swing. There are still too many variables in my game, which I would like to eliminate. - decrease the amount of 3-puts.. especially when you have a birdie-put and then end up with bogie is something that I need to get out of my system.
  10. played 9 holes today in very windy and chilly conditions.. Started hole 1 (par 3) with a double bogie, so right off the bat it didn't go great. Missed my birdie put on hole 2 (SI 1 - par 4) and ended up even 3-putting it as my 2nd put stopped in front of the hole by less than a centimeter. Par on hole 3 (par 5) after a good drive, bogie on 4 (165 meter par 3) when I missed the green a bit to the right and par on 5 (par 5) were alright. Bogie on 6 (par 4) was unlucky after a great tee-off with my 5-wood with the wind. Unfortunately I 3-putted again on a difficult green and pin-position. I doubled 7 (par 3) and 8 (par 4).. On 7 I hit off the tee into one bunker and then had to play over another bunker to the green, but the ball unfortunately didn't make it over the 2nd bunker but went straight in. Bad drive on 8 (par 4) and I duffed my hybrid in an awkward lie (glad i wasn't out of bounds on the drive). Bogie on 9 (par 3) and I ended up with a 44 on this par 34 course, which is pretty much exactly my handicap on this course..
  11. day 2: played a 9 hole round today with some friends in a very cold wind.. prior to that I practiced and warmed up a bit with P, 7i and driver.. then went to the putting green and focused on a few short and long puts (focus on direction for short-puts, and distance on long-puts). Lastly spent a few minutes chipping before starting the round.
  12. I play in any type of weather, and while it hardly ever snows here, it does get below freezing in the winter (and yes, we play). In the past I have just added more layers of clothing and that definitely affected my swing by quite a bit. For a while, I just took off a jacket to do my swing, and then put it back on right away, but nowadays I carefully select my layers (proper base-layer, good mid-layer depending on the temperature and then a proper upper lay) and while it still makes a difference compared to great weather, it's not as hindering anymore as it used to be. What usually affects me more are the changing ground conditions. I live below sea-level so drainage is not that great in the winter and the ground is usually extremely wet when it's not frozen, which makes the game much more difficult when you don't hit the ball perfectly well. Also there's a lot of plugging and no rolling at all, so carry distance mostly equals to total distance. That is, if you're able to still find your ball when it's fully plugged.
  13. my home course only has 9 holes, but we do sometimes walk them twice to get the 18 in (mostly we play 9 though). Does that count here as well, with the 2nd 9 only being filled in, when we actually make it an 18 hole round?

  15. I use an ad-blocker, but I also know that keeping a site up has its costs (have run some non-golf related websites myself), so I am gladly willing to pay. Even if I have just registered today, I have come here regularly in the past to read, so I have gotten the worth out of it already.

  17. I work in IT as an escalation support engineer for a vendor who makes switches, routers, access points and that kind of equipment.
  18. I just registered today, so I guess that makes today "day 1" for me: Spent about 2 1/2 hours on the range today with a group-lesson with my pro. These lessons are a 10-month plan where we meet 23 times overall, sometimes focusing on technique, sometimes practicing together and sometimes going on the course. Today, the first hour we spent on the putting green focusing on the routine, as well as what we focus on when doing long and short puts. One ball - one chance (goal for long puts (7 meter+) to focus on distance, goal for short puts (0 - 4m) primary focus on direction). Next we went to the chipping/pitching area and had a similar discussion on routine and what to focus on when practicing. Given the environment, the focus was on the landing area. Yet again, we were practicing in "competition-mode" so that meant: One target, one ball.. after the shot, put the club back into the bag, place a new ball, select a new target, get the appropriate wedge from the bag and go through the full routine and hit the ball. Once hit, return the club into the bag and repeat.
  19. Let's see.. Austria, Netherlands, Portugal (mainland and Madeira, which is an island, but belongs to Portugal), Germany and Mauritius so far.. ..definitely more to come, which is pretty easy in Europe.. depending on where you are exactly you can have a 2 hour drive and you can be in 3 different countries.
  20. I've had balls land less than a meter next to me, with the person that played looking at me and not shouting "fore". While of course I always ask about it, they usually apologize and say that they lost the ball mid-air (which can happen.. happened to me as well), but I never would have even thought of getting aggressive. Well, once a guy responded with "well, you didn't get hit, so what's the problem?", which annoyed me a bit, and as karma would have it, he got hit by a ball (and the player hitting having shouted fore, but him just not reacting to it) a few holes later. He got quite aggressive on that - what a surprise, but it says more about that guys personality. The only thing that does annoy me (and I don't get aggressive, but I do talk to people when I notice it), is when they start picking up balls that aren't theirs.. yes, there are people that can hit balls a long way, and just because there's nobody around the spot where it lies yet, doesn't mean it's not in play and doesn't have an owner. That's why I hate being the first on the tee-box when in a bigger flight on a compact course.

    Hello!

Hello! I started golf around 5 1/2 years ago (in my then late 30's) and my handicap currently ranges between 20 and 16 .. and 20.. and 16 (..and 20..). I'm very consistent at being inconsistent, so at least there is some consistency in my game. 😉 I have come here regularly in the past to read up on topics, however had never registered, so I thought this was long overdue. cheers Chris
  22. Played this for the very first time today, and managed to get it on the 3rd try: Wordle 259 3/6 🟨⬜🟨⬜🟩 🟩⬜🟨🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
