  1. My 7W has never left my bag since I started using one in the early 90's. I've tried the longer hybrids, but 7W is still my go to club from 175 to 185 yards.
  2. yes, it can be done, but you will need to add some weight to the head.
  3. Yes, I figured that is what I am going to have to do, and was thinking Senior flex was probably the next step. She hits her driver (14 degree) I built around 180 to 190, and at least once a round she will really bust one past 200.
  4. Do any of y'all have wifes, daughters, etc.. that are good players and using a Regular flex in their clubs? My daughter is 14 and really starting to really get her game going. At the last HS tournament she shot a 93 and has been steadily improving. The local pro at our club told me that most of the stronger females play mens clubs in regular flex, and even mentioned his really good girls are moving away from graphite to lightweight steel.
  5. yes, it is what caused me to stop playing years ago, and only seems to have gotten worse. I think too many players want to "Act" like they are pros and walk off each shot, measure yardages, walk to the green to check slopes, etc... good grief. Hit the ball and lets keep moving.
  6. My daughter just made the girls varsity golf team as a freshman, after beating the entire girls golf team by 4 shots. I've been coaching her myself, and never really got to technical with her, other than basics: grip, stance, alignment, aim, takeaway, etc.. never have been one to worry about things that normal instructors deal with. Angles, Planes, Position, etc. Anyway, her HS golf coach is trying to tell her she does not have enough hip turn, etc... ala Paula Creamer, Gulbis, etc... I do agree her hip turn is not full and is small compared to others, but she does have a good coil and fires thru the ball really well, as compared by her distance and ball striking. Her body type (thick) just does not faciliate a big hip turn. I've look at some comparable LPGA video and would compare her to Cristie Kerr, etc. I told her this evening if the coach brings it up again, that for her to politely mention that maybe he could talk to me about it as she does not feel comfortable making swing changes without me. I'm going to email him tomorrow, as he has mentioned to me he would like her to change an item, etc.. and I told him I would work on it with her. Am I off base here? Thanks for any feedback
  7. I don't let singles play through. They are welcome to go around me if nobody is in front.
  8. Great analogy..,,, you should run for public office.
  9. Humm... I would throw them away if there was a receptable at the Tee Box or something. I'm trying to think of the impact of leaving a tee in the box, and another golf having to remove it so they can play their shot. A broken tee on the ground has less impact, and the grounds keepers indicated that they don't worry about discarded tees.
  10. I guess I don't get it.... why do people leave their Tee's still stuck in the ground on the Tee Box. Seems awful lazy to me. I always pull mine up and if not broken put in my pocket, but if broken toss it aside. But never left sticking in the ground.
  11. I've been working on my more and more, and kind of found the groove for them. I still mishit them and make some horrible shots, but they usually got a little farther.
  12. I think it is bad etiquette and I have asked lots of people to please move and do not stand behind me.
  13. we have several courses around here that just turned them into grass bunkers instead of keeping them up. They are usually pretty severe with deep ruff, and harder to get up/down from than a regular sand bunker.
  14. Before I turned 40 I would have said No, but at 46 now I guess I have turned wuss. I can do it but really don't like playing in such hot extreme temps. Below 95 I am ok, but above that it is just too difficult to stay focused on game, hydration, etc.
  15. I have been trying to teach my 14 year old daugther this, but it just goes in one ear and out the other. She refuses to listen to anthing I say with regard to course mgmt, and as a result post big numbers on a couple of holes each nine. I try to remind her that the hole she is playing is just as difficult for the rest of the field also, and that sometimes posting a bogey or at worse dbl bogey willl beat most of the field.
  16. I use a 12 degree driver and I have never been able to do it with any consistency. I can hit my 3W off the deck, but all conditions must be just right for me to really put the screws to it. Otherwise I just use my 5W.
  17. 1. Rode out a small tornado at Tenison Park hiding in a ditch while I watched it snap 100 year old oak trees. 2. Saw a police chase and one of the passengers shooting at the cop car from the fairway at Cedar Crest 3. Watched two drunk guys roll their cart and one of them was thrown from the cart and landed head first on the concrete. I stayed with him for probably 30 mins talking to him to see if he had any kind of major head trauma till his wife arrived. 4. Saw two hispanics with rifles chasing a mountain lion that was carrying off a small dog in its mouth at a muni outside of San Antonio 5. Don't remember the name of the course (San Angelo) but it was close to dark and stepped down into a deep bunker and flushed a couple of turkeys that scared about 5 years off my life span. Too many more... but after playing every Saturday for like 15 years you will see some crazy stuff.
  18. I've seen people do it, but I can't bring myself to doing it. I build my own clubs and hit my shots, so nobody else to blame but me.
  19. BK (Before Kids) - I found that playing once a week, then have two good days at the range really kept me on my game and in touch with my swing. Because I worked so close to the course I would putt at lunch, then I really started seeing the results.
  20. Humm.. I have not really played as exclusive as some of the ones y'all are talking about, but I played La Cantera in San Antonio the day after they played the Texas Open and it almost killed me. The event was played from the Gold and I shot a 94 and was finished in the top 20 out of 70 people. The conditions for the course was immaculate, but it was extremely difficult as it had not been reconditioned for the normal playing public.
  21. i am at the course 5 days a week here in Texas, still way too hot, but pool sure feels nice when I get back home.
  22. I normally just try and play to my strengths and keep the ball away from trouble and near the fairway. If I have to play short or away from trouble I will, because I have a pretty good short game and and have a good chance of making an up/down. I'm not a big risk taker, as it usually ends bad and big numbers.
  23. I did the same about 6 years ago, I went from Stiff to Firm (Inbetween Stiff and Regular) and tipped them with little weight to get some snap on them. I went Regular on my driver, and increased the loft on the head from 10.5 to 12 degrees. It help quite a bit overall, as I was looking to get the ball more in the air thus increasing my distance.
  24. Yes, my daughter is playing the prep tour on the NTJPGA, and she really has really taken well to it this year. I haven't been able to fish much because we are really working on her game in preparation for the HS team this September, and starting the fall Cowboy series 18 hole events.
  25. Long irons used to be a good part of my game, but like many as I got older I did not have the consistency I wanted in that part of my game. Now I have gone to hybrid and don't have any irons longer than a 5 in the bag, and hybrids are a 4,5,& 6.
