Your obviously a much more skilled player than I am. But I have found love for my 60* its the reason why I invested in more Cleveland wedges. Around here most of the greens are small table tops and as a result bump'n'run is only possible from head on towards the green off either side or the back there is usually a 6+ft hill to chip over. With the 60 I practiced a sweet smooth lob that i can get up high and stop on a dime, my scores would be considerably worse without it.

This is exactly why I love my odyssey magnetic putter cover.

Do you use an "Droid" App?
BostonSully replied to DannyB215's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Skydroid FTW. Although its now 2.99$ the other day my phone was dying so I left it in the car while I played, I found myself so pissed when I would over/under estimate the distance to the front of the green. Being a high capper the front is all I care about anything thats on the green is a good shot for me. -

I wanted to check this out but what the hell? Did they use like a 0.5 Megapixel camera to take that picture, I think my old phone in 2002 took better pictures. -
How many clubs do you need to play your handicap?
BostonSully replied to Gerald's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just sort of went on a binge and bought all new irons and wedges and now I have 14 clubs Driver 10* 3H 4H 5-PWi GW SW LW Putter Used to be 10 clubs Driver 10* 3 Wood 4-PW LW Putter -
Picked up my 3 wedges from 3ballsgolf.com They are used clevelands either CG12 or CG14 in 50* 56* and 60* lofts. All 3 cost me less than 100$ total the condition of "very good" clubs from this site seems to be outstanding some scratching on the face but everything else is in prime condition no dents and sharp grooves.

Funny thread for me. I just bought A7's yesterday at Dicks Sporting Goods. I went in and probably the one set I didnt try was the Clevelands. They set me up on the machine witih X20's, Burner 2.0(out of price range), Burner HT, A7, A3. For me I loved the feel of the Burner HT's but the set was 4-AW I had just ordered Cleveland wedges online in 50-56-60* so the AW was of no use to me. Further my goal was to improve my long iron range and the A7 3-4hybrids were great. They produced the best most consistent results on the monitor fo any hybrids I hit yesterday. I also liked how the A7's are a bit of combo set where the 5i is wider soled and the PW is more like a blade with a sharp topline. They are also pretty attractive looking. I went to the PitchnPutt on the way back and hit more GIR with the new PW my first time using it on a course than I have ever before with my old callaways. These clubs so far got an A+ from me.

Migrating from the range to the course?
BostonSully replied to Hacker-G's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
If you have a range and a place where you can both chip and putt for hours, I would avoid the course for as long as possible. Hit the range and putting/chipping greens as much as you can take it. Get so consistent that you get bored. Then hit the course for your first time and find a friend that knows etiqutte to go with you. You should be good enough to get around and not slow people up if you've been practicing alot. I think longterm this will do wonders for your game. I know because my first golf experience was on a course before I ever even hit up the driving range. 4 Years later I think im still living down the embarassment I felt that day. -
Time for new wedges...recommendations?
BostonSully replied to RichWW2's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I also like the cleveland wedges although due to monetary restraints I only own the CG12 and CG14 models My 2 new cleveland wedges are coming soon a CG12 50* GW and a CG14 56* SW. So Ill have a 50-56-60 all cleveland and i really like them. -
I think a common tip thrown around here is to find something about 10-20yds ahead that is on your target line. Aim at that rather than your target and it will be easier to obtain the desired angle/aim that you are looking for. I sometimes need to remind myself of this as I will tee up aiming far left just because my perception of where Im aiming and where I "think" im aiming are completely different.

This^^^ I have been having trouble finding greens this year as well. I either hit a push or a slice and miss left or right but my distance seems to be on, just need moar practice.

Ungolf Related Question: Whats your age? First Question: What kind of clubs you swinging? Second Question: Have you considered lessons(if financials would permit them)? 50yds at best with a 5i is about as bad as it gets. Third Q: How do you grip the club, do you keep your hands together? Do you hold it like a baseball bat? A good golf grip that may feel awkward at first is the key to developing a good golf swing. There are other tips I can think of but I think getting these things answered first is a good start.

Ive been pondering a new ironset for a while now and over the weekend my friend/playing partner finally snapped and bought himself a new set of MaxFli C3's. Ive been playing my 2002 Bertha's for 4 years now they are R FLEX Graphite shafts and the huge looking clubhead and whip like shafts are starting to bother me quite a bit. Im considering upgrading to this The Wilson Progressive Combo Set http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11287351&cp;=4413989.4414118 3-4 Hybrid 5-6 SGI 7-8 Cavity Back 9-PW Muscle Back I just cant find a single review on these anywhere.. So.. My question's are will a Uniflex Steel Shaft feel less whip like than my old R Flex graphite shafts? Also is it a good idea to have a combo set like this? My goal is to improve and maybe 3-4 years from now own a set of blades. After work today im going to swing through Dicks and get a static fit and take a few swings with these, I may even impulse buy them today. If im feeling really good about them. Thanks for your answers. -BS

Last night on the first hole par4 straight 400yds. My friend and I both push our drives into the woods that lines the right side of the fairway. The person playing with us spots a ball right inside the tree line and says to me thats yours I think. I was playing a titleist 3. However my friend was also playing a Titleist 3 which I didnt know. The difference was I had NXT and he had DTSOLO. I looked at the ball and the logo was face up, the titleist logo looks exactly the same on both balls. So I laid it into the fairway and he had to take a penalty drop. I managed to save a bogey on that hole and he wound up with a triple thanks to the drop. It wasnt until after I holed my putt that I picked up the ball and saw it was DTSOLO not NXT. I didnt do this on purpose and we both had thought the ball in the treeline was mine (because the way both our shanks went). What score do I actually get?

Played a round the last night with a new golfer. But he didnt look like a new golfer. Brand new standbag, new Cobra Irons/Driver must've had 1500$ worth of equipment. Looked like he was going to be really good and was just a hack.

Playing tonight ill see how deep they cut in. I know I see dirt with the grass divot a good amount of the time and I do hit thin/fat misses. I never thought I could be coming in too steep. Any tips on how to come in on a more shallow plane? Im about 5'9 using NonFitted Regular Flex/Length clubs as well if that has any impact.

What DON'T you consume before/during a round?
BostonSully replied to xxsoultonesxx's topic in Golf Talk
Alcohol is a tricky beast while golfing. There is literally barely a difference between a full sober game and 1-2beers over 9 holes. Then when you get to 3-5 beers theres a big dropoff. By the time you get to 10+ beers magic strikes and you hit some amazingly good shots inbetween the stumbling and laughing and duffs. -
So I've been told (by golfers some not even as good as myself) that I take too big of a divot. I mean sometimes the thing is a monster particularly on a wet/soggy fairway. Ive dubbed them landing strips when they are 4-5in log and about as wide as my clubhead. So this is what happens. I hit down on the ball then the ground afterwards, my clubhead speed powers through the ground and I dont feel the resistance. But I look down and its just a massive divot somewhere around 1in infront of where I hit the ball. On some mishits the clubhead "plunges" and gets stuck into the ground although I hit the ball first and the ball flight is still okay, the only negative is a sore wrist afterwards. Are large divots the sign of a swing flaw? Keep in mind in the Boston area the courses are probably much wetter in general than otherplaces around the country and when I do play on harder dry land the divots are alot smaller.

Man you guys looked defeated after the 2 goals in the first minute there. But how can you blame those on boosh? Both of the Chara slappers were simply unstoppable no goalie could have stopped those shots. The team was sleeping and the Bruins brought it too them early. That said as a B's fan I can never look ahead. Honestly I think the bruins team this time finally gets that message as well. Heres to hoping its a 8-0 blowout for the beans on friday that would be sweet revenge.

What's the most overrated accomplishment in sports?
BostonSully replied to sean_miller's topic in Sports
Absolutely is "Finishing a Marathon" Every year Boston gets invaded by smug "runners' who stumble across the finish line 7.5hrs after starting the Boston Marathon and then parade around town all week in their congratulatory "Boston Marathon" Windbreakers. I mean I guess if they run for charity they can be a bit smug about it but its still annoying. -
The other day on a really tight par4 slight dogleg 410 yd hole I really cranked a good drive to 70 yds away. The tee box is elevated way above the fairway but I guess that makes it like a 340yd drive + roll. AKA Best drive of the year.. No1 else in our group of 4 even used a driver the rest laid up with 3-4i's. However on the 2 holes before this one I managed to pick my head up and top my 2nd shot both times. So I start lining up my 2nd shot with my lob wedge and my playing partner has the gall to tell me "Dont even pick your head up, to see where it goes ill watch it for you" Obviously this was enough to cause me to pick my head up and catch the ball thin and sail the green turning a surefire bird or par into a double UGH!!! I dont mind chit chatting on the course just when I address the ball SHUT UP!
