  1. Oh boy. Rory is making news, but not because of his scores. More like the lack of even posting a score.Rory is great for the game, and i'm a big fan of him, but Come' on man! It ain't that easy to win. To win when everyone expects you to win.( Tiger you tha man) Could this be attributed to equipment change? Could the titlesit clubs have had some voodoo, or was it the wizards in the tour van, possibly, sprinkling magic dust over the clubs? Someone with his talent should have stumbled upon a 66 by accident, but he has been playing like me lately...terrible.
  2. All golf stuff is expensive. I usually get golf clothes for Christmas, birthdays, things like that, or i would be wearing jeans and a tee golfing!! LOL NOT!!
  3. I mostly wear a Blue jays baseball cap when i play away from my home course, since I work a few shifts a week in the pro shop, were they frown upon wearing any hats that arent branded with some golf logo or company. My options are golf hats, or no hat. I have a butt load of golf hats to choose from tho, and a few times a year company reps drop by and offer goodies to staff members, and i usually take a hat over balls.
  4. Sounds about right. According to MyFItnessPal.com a full swing can burn 239 Cal per hr at the driving range.
  5. I've never been a fan of Haney, or his teaching methods. I can't imagine Phelps breaking 80 on a regular basis, he's almost too flexiable for the game. CRUSHER47-- Man, I love your avatar!!!
  6. Please put your preferences of major golf manufactures in the following categories: Category Liked Most Runner-up Comments Drivers Taylor Made Caly razr fit I like the high rate of turnover with TM, so im able to buy last year gear for a quarter of the price. This allows me to "pose" with the latest gear on the 1st tee! LOL Fairway Woods Taylor made Caly razr fit I have and love the Callaway razr fit 3 wood, but when the RBZ carries 10 yards further for me. It makes it hard to say no to more distance. Hybrids Taylor made Taylor Made I like very small head hybrids, and i still havent found one that i like better than my 09 Burner 3h. Irons Titleist Mizuno Love good blades, but still havent pulled the trigger to buy them for myself....maybe....soon Wedges Titleist Titleist non better than Vockeys Putters Nike Method Odyssey sabretooth The Method 3i putter is the best putter i''ve ever rolled the ball with. I doubt ill find another that i'll like more, so i bought 2 of the same putters, one to play with, the other one i wanna be buried with! :) J/K i want a spare one, just incase. Golf Balls Pro v1x Penta I like the feel of both balls (gross) Golf Bags Sun Mountain titleist I only carry, and my new TM bag is already starting to fall apart, im not impressed. The TM bag will be replaced w either a titleist or SM bag...soon Golf Shoes adidas Nike Since i walk 60-70 rounds a year, i like fresh shoes every year...and i only those 2 brands will do it.
  7. Played yestrday in the cold, windy, and almost snowy conditions. Hands did freeze again on the back nine because of the 25-30mph winds, and the same winds kepy my GIR to only 4, i still struggeled with touch around the greens and my score refected it. I shot 41-41 for a 82, with 2 birdies and 1 double, and a whole lot of bogeys. There are 2 more courses opening up in the next week, and also a D range that's right around the corner from my pace...im pumped!
  8. LOL Good eye. I was rushing while writing that because i was in class...But, yes. Im Canadain Eh, is not so smart...
  9. I basically live in the golf capital of the Canada, there are more than 25-30 courses within a a hour or so drive in either direction, and we don't actually see any decline in participation, but if ihad to guess why people around this neck of the woods aren't tripping over themselves to golf. Its because golf can be hard if you don't have some athletic ability, and the big one is, the image that golf is for rich snobs who have nothing better to do. I'll admit, that was my thinking before i started golfing, but now that I'm elbow deep in this great game. My perspective has changed ten fold.
  10. I concur. I followed her group on Sunday at the CN Open last summer, and i couldn't get over how composed past her years she was...At this rate she could win a few majors before she commits to college, and that would be something else!!
  11. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Took the words right out of my mouth. Also, i got my RBZ 3 wood only a few months, and when i go it, i read on TST that the none tour version is not user friendly off fairway lies. However; i find that's not the case, i hit this wood just as good of the deck as i did my 08 Burner 3 wood. That's still doesn't make the RBZ any better then the rest, but its better for me. Good luck
  12. All the time, i use my 3 hybrid when im under a tree, or 20-30 yards from the green were there is a large mound in from of a short pin.
  13. Looks like a nascar. But, i play a Burner 2.0 which also looks like a nascar, so i shouldn't be judging...LOL
  14. Thx for the input! Interesting. I have never played the Wilson ball during the summer months, but i wouldn't expect it to behave the same way on hard, fast greens like it reacts on the bushy greens, greens that barely get cut or rolled during this time of the season. For the price of the Duo, you cant go wrong. Against a high end ball, i guess it's not much competition, but compared to other "crappy" balls, i believe it should get 2 thumbs up.
  15. No, i dont get worse the more I play. However; i do get worse when i try to control the outcome of the shot, instead of just swinging the club. I usually start forcing shots when I've been playing good golf for a few days and I'm feel like going lower. I start swinging out of my shoe's, and just generally loose my tempo and that = to game over! Also, golf is a very hard sport to be consistent at, so dont feel too discouraged on a bad day out because we've seen the pro's win one weekend, and not even make the cut the following weekend...damn crazy game! Good luck!
  16. I've been using the Duo as my winter ball, (4 rounds so far)and since this ball has caught others attention. I wanted to let fellow golfers know what i thought of the ball. First off, i use the pro v1x during the year, so naturally ill be comparing the Duo to my regular gamer. I understand that those two balls are really quite different in many ways, but who wouldn't want to be compared to the best. Here we go; first, on the green the ball is very soft, there is no "click" at impact. Not even a hint of it, were as i can feel a slight "click" at impact with the prov1x. I feel the Duo might be the softest ball I've ever rolled. Green side chip shots felt just as good on the club face as the putter did, and the ball had similar tendencies to check and roll a few feet like any high end multi piece urethane model. Partial wedge shots from 60 yards, and full wedge shots from 100yards had the ball behaving just like i had expected, it dropped and stopped within a foot or two of the pitch mark. It also felt really soft with short- mid irons, but the low compression did mask some of the feel, and made feedback less obvious. The long iron's and hybrid launched the ball noticeably higher than the Titleist, but the impact was now really vague, and i had to look at the ball mark on the face, to really know how centered the strike was, were as with the pro v1x i can deterime the quality of the strike instantly because of the higher compression given more feedback. Here was my problem with the Duo: Tee shots, and I'm not a bomber either, i have 140-145 mph ball speed with my 3 wood (numbers are from my trackman fitting from Dec). That's the club I've been using of the tee on the shortened winter layout im playing, and even thought I'm not using the big dog, the Wilson Duo still felt like a tennis ball at impact. If there wasn't any sound at impact i wouldn't of known i actually hit a ball, it just felt like a practise swing. It was weird, and that really turned me off because not only was the sensation at impact non-existent, that awesome "pured" feeling wasn't there either. I hit the prov1x of the tee to compare, and i was longer with the prov1x, but the Duo looked like it went further because the ball flight was to the moon, and i prefer a penetrating ball flight for the control. The Duo didn't really peak that much higher then the titleist, but it peaked much, much sooner and fell to the ground with less roll. The ProV1x peaked much further down the fairway, and landed with a flatter angle that resulted in more roll. In conclusion, great ball, really soft, lots of green side control, drops and stops from wedges', but can be a detriment to higher swing speeds of the tee. I'm still Geeked about the Duo, and its been a long time since a ball besides the pro v1/prov1x has gotten me this excited, so until my scores go up from the slight distance/accuracy loss, ill be gaming the Wilson Duo for sometime to come...So, all you lower caps give them a try, and share your thoughts! Hit'em Long and straight!!
  17. I love my wedges', and i enjoy practising my short game alot, and in the proccess i have concluded that, my LW is like a artists paint brush. It's a expression of my imagination around the green. There is no wrong way to use one, as long as it does what you dreamed up, and just like any great artist. Great touch is also a skill that cant be taught, you either have it, or you dont. Short game is all feel for me, so i dont have stock wedge shots/yardages. I need to know my yardages to determine club selection, but hitting a SW 112 or 106 is all feel. Here are my loose guideline's for club selection: My LW is the only club i use from 90 yards and in. A full LW is 95 yards. My SW is at least 105 yards, and my GW is at least 120yards. I wont hit my GW with a full swing because then it'll mean i'll have to hit my PW 140-145 yards, and thats not a swing i want to make with a scoring club. My setup. PW, Wilson Pi7 47* DG S300; GW, Taylor Made XFT 52* KBS tour S; SW, Nike SV 56* DG S300; LW, 60* Titleist vockey DG S300. Mine is a pretty mixed bag of wedges. My main Objective for this season is to get a set of wedges to replace my GW,SW with Titleist Vockeys'. Thx to Wutiger, im going to check the lenght of my wedge shafts, and make sure that they are not all over the place. I always thought the length of the shafts increased, or decreased approprietly with loft (never have checked it) In the same way a set of irons is set up, now that i have gave it some thought, it wouldnt make sence to have the shaft lenghten when loft is taken away because then the yardage gap between clubs would be huge.
  18. Played today, probably wasn't a good idea. It was below freezing and blowing 25 mph winds. My hands froze at about the 9th or 10th hole, but it did matter because i wasn't playing very well today. i went 40-41 for a 81 on a course that is pretty short (5400 yards).
  19. Played yesterday. Same shortened course as i played Monday (5400 yrd). Hit the par 5, 17th hole (460 yd) in 2 again, expect this time i didn't 3 putt for par. Instead i holed it for a big bird. Hit the rbz 3 wood of the tee then i hit my approach shot to 4 feet, with a 3 hybrid, and holed the putt for 3. That is my first eagle of 2013. I know its not a long hole, but it still feels good! I shot 43-36 for a 79 on a par 70 track. It could have been better (obviously). It was a windy day, that gave me problems with hitting GIR, and i couldn't scramble for the life of me. I figure out the wind enough to hit greens on the back, or it would of been 86-87 instead. I might be teeing it up again today, so we'll see how she goes.
  20. The laser will give you distances to whatever you point and shoot it at. You can laser a lip of a bunker, the lip of a water hazard, the tree behind the green. It hardly matters, laser finders that have some sort of "pin seeking" feature really give you lots of confidence that you'r actually on the pin and not getting the distance to some other object. It's pretty neat, the Bushnell will actually know when i'm pointing it at a tree versus the pin because a icon pops up in he view finder on the Bushnell, so you know its on the pin...
  21. ^^^^ Good call, i used the Golflogix app on my iphone for a while, now that i bought myself a Bushnell V2 there's no going back. My fave part of having a range finder is being able to laser my distances while practicing at a range, or a open field, and lastly, i hated how GPS units would sometimes delay and not give you accurate readings when you arrive at the ball, and i'm all about ready golf so It slowed my pace of play because i always waited for a min or two so i can be curtain that the distance displayed is accurate.
  22. Played Monday, the temps where just above freezing (yesss), and the sun was shinning. Shot 41-39 for a 80. The course is set up shorter than usual for the winter months, so i managed to reach a short par 5 (460 yrd) in 2, but then i followed that with three putts and only scored par.
  23. I say get the older TM Burner only because i liked that club alot. Nowadays the 3 wood is my fave non-scoring club in my bag, but it took a few seasons of countless range sessions to solidify the swing. I understand most 3 woods are not the easiest to hit and any newer club will do the trick, but i would stay clear of any titleist 910-913 woods or the callaway razr fit and extreme line, and only because they both have a very compact head shape that can be really intimidating for a newer player....but get what you want, just stay committed and it will come! Also, if you really want to accelerate the processes of hitting 3 wood of the deck, start hitting your driver of the deck!! That's right, it sounds crazy, but works. That's what i did. Even though i didn't really make solid contact doing that or did i hit it any further than my hybrid. What i did do, is make hitting a small 3 wood of the deck a breeze, and if your struggling hitting 5i-6i, grab a 3 irons and hit a few buckets with it, and i bet you'll find the 5i-6i become more consistent.. Keep on, keep'n on!
  24. Sounds like you have a flat swing plane, that's why you hit the longer clubs better, they require more of a sweeping swing. The mid-short irons and wedges require the hands ahead of the ball at impact, and that comes from a steeper swing. If my theory is correct, you are also hitting the shorter clubs a bit on the fat side even on good swings? Try putting the ball back in your stance with shorter clubs, expect a lower ball flight, but you should still be able to have the ball land softly and hold the green. Good luck,
  25. Those numbers seem high for 134 mph ball speed. None the less, the launch is really low for such little back spin, im pretty sure if you could get your launch angle to 17-18 deg you will pick up about 10 yards of carry. You might loose out on roll after the ball lands with a higher launch but it might be worth the trade off. hit them Long and straight!
