  1. As can be seen in the attached, catching the ball way to high on the face - and I don't tee it overly high - crown is in the middle of the ball. Seems I don't come up on the ball when striking it, and so I will lower the tee so middle of ball is slightly above the middle of the face of the club. Will also be working on my alignment to make sure I am actually pointing where I want the ball to go - Essentially need to aim a lot more left than I currently do! Note the lovely print from a hook that I hit - nice. Then 2 out of the top/middle of the face. Anyone know where I can pick up the face tape so I can use it in my practice to see how I am doing? It was strange that the pro commented on a swing speed in the region of 85-95 mph that was suitable for a stiff shaft, but he's right - when aiming correct it works. Based on that, I thought I was reg, which is why I was about to shell out on a new shaft. Lucky escape!!
  2. the above is precisely my problem - swinging with my arms. Occasionally I add a bit of shoulder to it, and once in a blue moon I seem to get everything right and have a perfect shot. No idea what I need to to to engrain the "everything" swing into my brain!
  3. Went to the range after work today, hit 50 on the range and 50 on the chipping green. Irons ok, driving piss poor - everything going right and a super high sky or 2 entering the equation. Spoke to the pro about re-shafting to reg flex and he started asking about carry with the driver (previously 240+ with the R7, now only 210 with the 905R), how far the 6 iron goes (160) etc. I mentioned the experience with my old R7 and he suggested the shafts between the clubs were very similar. Took me back to the range to hit a few balls and he's right - problem is me rather than club/shaft! After giving me some pointers (my alignment was way off and I am striking the ball to high on the club face) hitting much better. Never really noticed that I am hitting off the crown until tonight (I now have my 1st sky mark on the crown of the club - doh!) He put some of the titleist fitting tape on the face and crystal clear - smack right out of the middle of the face, but off the top of the club. Will be trying to tee lower to see if that helps, and a lesson is on the way too. Certainly good to see a pro suggest a change in swing rather than take the money for a replacement shaft! Happy days - what I have works (or certainly will with a bit of practice...)
  4. If I am playing well, I'll use a ProV1. If I'm not playing so well, I'll use a Srixon or an NXT or whatever else is in my bag that doesn't cost too much! In the UK & Aus, a missed fairway was generally trees which you had a chance of finding the ball in. In Dubai, there is a lot of water, so a missed fairway for a large % of the time is simply a very wet & very lost ball. I find a ProV1 is definitely nicer to play than an NXT - softer, more control etc. But being more $ than an NXT, I don't play them often here.
  5. you should also have a search on www.youtube.com - there are a number of golf instruction videos on there. Some are part of a series by the same instructor, so you can do 1 "lesson" at a time then move to the next.
  6. I hit my old R7 460 which was a 9.5 degree a perfect height. Great launch angle. That was with the stock RE*AX stiff shaft. My current 905R is a 9.5 also, with YS6 stiff and it launches much lower. Not as far either.
  7. I posted this in a similar thread yesterday - only gives the options with UST shafts, but should answer all your questions... Just follow the steps to see what it recommends http://www.ustgolfshaft.com/swingfit I need to find out my swing speed - then I can make a proper decision on driver shaft and a 3-wood...
  8. Would have what I have at the moment, but would take out the Callaway 5 wood and add a Titleist 906F2 15* and a Titleist 19* 585 (?) hybrid. I'd then re-shaft the driver so the woods & hybrid all had Proforce V2 shafts in them. I love the Titleist clubs/brand and just wish I hit the driver better. But, as it says in the initial post, I'm assuming I can hit it well...
  9. Be sure to try whatever new driver you get out on the range 1st... If you get a chance to hit them on the range you'll get an idea of the ball flight etc before you buy it. Also - what shafts are in your fairways, hybrids & irons? Graphite? Steel? Manufacturer? Flex?
  10. there are no weights on the R7 draw - it is fixed to the draw setting. The R7 425 & 460 have moveable weights as does the superquad
  11. I'm sure that tee height and trajectory have some correlation in general, however I used to play with a guy that hit a 9.5 deg 905T (grafalloy blue X flex) with the tee almost all the way in the ground and he hit towering SUPER long drives. He had a very fast, powerful & consistent swing though and it resulted in huge drives. But would agree - if hitting too high, try teeing lower to see if that helps you
  12. The UST site has a good interactive shaft fitting guide - but you need info such as swing speed and club head speed. Then you add preferences such as distance/control and ball flight (high/med/low) and it suggests the shafts that they offer that best suits your selections. http://www.ustgolfshaft.com/swingfit/ Critical part is swing speed & club head speed - which I do not know. Need to go find that out - this is obtained from a launch monitor?
  13. I have a 5 wood that I have had for years! Love it, and would not swap it for a hybrid
  14. As I currently own a driver that is no longer produced, pro shops will therefore not stock it. How can I get analysis performed to see what shaft I should get? I am toying with the idea of having my driver re-shafted, as I think the YS6 might be too stiff for my swing. As with the OP, between Adila and Proforce as they seem to be around the same $$$ How can a pro give me advice based on my current driver? Ideally, a lauch monitor to get ball spin etc is what they would use, but its obviously not as easy as it would be with a new club as they have no selection of 905Rs to give me the variety of shafts I'd need for a proper fitting? Also, anyone got ideas for the price of re-shafting a 905R? I understand it has to go to Titleist for this to be done.
  15. As you will have seen in other posts, I am struggling with mine (YS6+ stiff and 9.5 deg loft) I am never seeing any form of draw out of the club - mostly a fade or a slice. If I try to hard to fix these, I get an ugly snap hook. From reading reviews, I am never seeing any negative press about the 905R - but I certainly struggle with it. I never got fitted for the club - I got it as an exchange when my R7 460 caved in. I'm going to see about a session with a launch monitor - from what I read on here, simply re-shafting the club with a reg flex may be my answer. If you google a fair bit, a common thought is that the 905 drivers play stiffer than what the shaft states due to the design; http://www.golfsmith.com/cm/forum/vi...ast=1196429172 I know a lot of single digit handicap players using this driver in Reg flex - some of whom have a fast & powerful swing. Best advice - go and try one out. Buying without testing is risky - Yes, I had some hits with mine before buying, but hitting on a range is no comparisson to time with a launch monitor or hitting on a course.
  16. hit divots today - lots of them :D
  17. the FT-I was a neutral bias. And seemed very nice to hit - actually felt like I connected with the ball where with the 905 it just bounces off it. After hitting good irons round the course today, and the score let down by erratic driving, a few hits with the Callaway were like a dream. I find the 905 with the square face and my not so perfect swing leaves a lot of drives going right. Try to fix it, and I get a duck hook as I am over-compensating. Dammit. 905R is highly likely to be sold in the coming months, and the replacement will depend on available funds. Something set up for a draw would be ideal - poss a Callaway or a TM R7
  18. Certainly odd to look at, but once you are past that, what a beast. Far easier to hit than my 905R is - it was a stiff flex 'speeder' shaft and felt like it had more flex than the YS6 stiff in my 905. 9 deg also had a higher trajectory than my 905 with 9.5 loft. All in, I think the 905 is the wrong club for me! What's the FT-5 like?
  19. Its cured! (Almost!) Was def swinging too steep - played much better today. Only weak point was the driver. Rest of game was a huge improvement. Happy days are almost back :D
  20. Can you not go to a pro in Belguim and get fitted, then order the right spec from golfsmith?
  21. I think I might be on to something but need to get on the range to check it out... Just been reading though swing tips in old golf mags I have lying around. I am swinging VERY steep - at the top of a 3/4 swing, the shaft of the club is pointing straight up. Looking at swing photos in magazines, the angle of the shaft should be similar to where it was at address (but opposite)? This means I am swinging sharply down causing face to remain open? Swinging a club in the house seems to feel like a flatter swing is easier to control as I am not needing to work as hard to get the club through. Fingers crossed! Will see how it goes on Saturday...
  22. I have played golf for years now (approx 20 years) and for the last 10 have been a fairly consistent 16-18 handicap... Since moving to Dubai, not playing as much golf (now about 1 game every 2 months compared to 1 per week), I would estimate to be playing to around 25 now. It really is THAT much of a change. I went to the range tonight as my last game was abismal. Something drastic has changed. Majority of irons are ending up with some pissy little shank-like-top-slice. Driver is a wicked high major slice. About 1 year ago, I was still a big hitter with the driver, and consistent too - most outings I'd pick up a longest drive prize, with a towering straight 280 yard drive. Not any more - I'm barely reaching 220yds with the driver I tried some of the tips I've read on here - half swing, aim for 100yds flag etc and NOTHING working - same problem with all clubs. Irons = Titleist 755 tri spec steel, reg flex Driver = Titleist 905R 9 deg YS6+ stiff Just felt horrendous on the range tonight - same as my last game and I have a works outing this weekend. I'm thinking its not going to be an enjoyable game! Any suggestions for changes? Appreciate difficult without seeing the swing, but I'm desperate!! I'm in need of a few lessons. Was thinking of new driver/reshaft, but the irons are screwed as well and so it must be the mechanic and not the tools! All clubs feel like I am getting a terrible contact. Any help much appreciated! Thanks Mike
  23. This could be a source of the problem - combination of too low loft on driver and too stiff shaft. Just from what I read when googling shaft flex choice... The 10.5 Reg flex worked well, while 9 deg firm goes right. Too flexible shaft - ball goes left Too stiff - ball goes right I am looking to get onto a launch monitor to verify my swing etc to see if a new driver shaft would work well for me as I currently slice badly (would be looking at getting a R flex shaft to replace the YS6+ stiff)
  24. ...I remember topping a ball so badly, that due to the ground being so soft, as a result of the lovely Scottish weather, the ball plugged about 2" straight down from where it was!
  25. I have a wicked slice with my 905R - never had with previous TM R7. No problem with the irons. I think this is due to the square club face on the 905 where the R7 was slightly closed? Anyway, prob had the same swing but the R7 masked the flaw. I can occasionally cure the problem (when I remember) by dropping my right foot back a bit (so aiming right more). Shoulders still in line with target, so I must aim up with some sort of draw on the ball. More often than not though, I just aim square and slice OB. Muppet. Going to the range this week so will try some of the ideas mentioned above...
