Been experimenting the last few days with my driver as the teebox is the only thing that goes to crap on me at times.....i have 2 identical adams 9064 ld heads and my gamer has been one of the heads with an oban devotion 7 shaft and the other head is used for shaft experimentation. I also have the luxury of being able to check things on a trackman if something works well. Anyway....long story short is that ive been playing a 44 " driver and it has honestly always felt too long. Im 6'4" but my wrist to floor is 34 inches.....so very very long arms. I have been talking recently with some seriously knowledgeable club builders and upon their suggestion of me needing a heavier shaft i setup one of my heads with a tt dg x100 steel shaft at only 42.5 inches. Holy crap what an improvement....love a shorter stick. The shaft is 120+ grams and im still generating an average swing speed of 118mph.....but omg straight.....it is so easy i feel like I'm cheating. Just ordered a ust vst 95 black graphite shaft (100grams) for the other head abd will go 42.5" again.....ive played 4 rounds in 5 days and have hit 86% of the fairways!!!! The shorter length worked great for me and my ballspeed has been nuts. Anyone else play a shorter than retail length driver? Any success?

I played a cleveland cg15 56* before I demoed my miura K grind. was very very happy with the cg15.........but that K grind....there is nothing I cant escape from with that rediculous club......it never ever gets hung up.

Lies, frequency, Blades and CB's

funny this topic came up.....I had to reshaft another club today because I had a club that was ballooning hard that I recently reshafted with a DG x100.......the shaft in question actually freq. out at senior flex......JUNK -
I use a towel and brush on course as well as covers ALL of the time. take the cover off, hit the shot, towel and brush, and cover goes back on.....I've only ever gotten crap for it one time until the guy saw what clubs I play (Miura baby blades)......then he said if he had my gear he would think about using them too. the set of blades I had before these didnt have covers and got a ton of nicks from the topline of the club going back into the bag hitting the sole of another club in the bag......they looked a beaten after a year and a half, and I'm not doing that to the Miuras

I've found that the majority of people score pretty close to the following: 95 - (2 X GIR)......so if you hit 5 greens your'e around 85.....but they are legitimate GIR's.....not the no count OB ball or the ball on the fringe with a 70 footer left GIR.....but all straight forward scoring. not 100% rock solid all the time, but if you look at your rounds it is uaually within 2 or 3 strokes

65....par is 71.....3 on the front and 3 on he back......played great.

If you could carry and game a 15th club, what would it be and why?......... I personally would carry an extra 60 degree lob wedge .....but in lefty (I'm RT handed).....just in case i got hammered against a collar of a bunker that i couldnt get to rt handed

How about........"never saw it"

I usually wont play unless I've gone to whole foods and gotten a container of french vanilla almond granola.........I'm addicted, and have learned my lessons about playing like crap due to no food
-
I have found that tight grip pressure and a jerky transition cause heel shots, especially if you have an in to out path.........relax the hands, and shoulders........my wife tells me that she can see a bad shot coming before I swing because if I'm trying too hard my face looks tense......which means so is everything else....even if I dont feel it consciously
-
I generally play really fast and know when the courses I regularly play are pretty empty........I hate the group of guys in front of me that slow the ENTIRE COURSE down by one guy lining up his putt by plumb bobbing, viewing the putt line from 3 different angles, and then lining up an alignment mark to hit his putt............then, and only after all of that, the next guy in the group gets behind his individual ball and does this himself.....and this proceeds for all 4 guys, for all 18 holes.........OMG, get off the green and start looking at your line while the first idiot is putting.....especially if you show up in a t shirt and jeans and they let you out!!!

I was playing as a single yesterday on a course I've never played before......drove about 40 miles from home looking for something different......made the turn, and there was another single on number 10 and asked if I wanted to pair up.......how about after we tee off, the dude pulls out a bowl and starts smoking a bowl on course............I politely excused myself from his company. to each his own, people party their own way, and I'm ok with that......but I didn't expect it on a golf course.

yeah.....not a long drive specific shaft........it is a normal length shaft. it is oban's "6 flex" or "tour x stiff" which is like xx to xxx range. I play it at 44 " assembled with the adams head (see sig). I believe it is an available option for the 910d3 if you are going to order it from titleist, even if it is through a retailer........I know a few folks that play the shaft in various flexes and I've never heard anything but amazement and love.......kinda like a "once you've tried it, you'll understand the difference" type of thing

anyone playing 2 diff drivers???
sblack5 replied to handlez42's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have 3 that get gamed in rotation depending on the mood I'm in. I have an adams 9064LD 6.5 with an oban devotion 7 shaft as my normal and dependable heavy artillery. If I'm working on something rather than playing, or it is stupid windy I have an adams 9064LD 7.5 with an x100 driver shaft in it (loads of fun)., and lastly if I'm playing a course under 6800 yards a custom louisville golf 7* persimmon wood driver that gets loads of attention. I hit all of them well...just depends on the mood I'm in. -
How to know you were fitted properly??
sblack5 replied to warmweathergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
its the new irons......I went from titleist MB710's with DGx100's to Miura 1957's with kbs tour shafts......I took me a few rounds to adjust and get back to normal distances....I was 10 yards shorter for about 6 rounds........if anything, have your new gear checked against your old gear......remember, there is no industry standard for length, loft and lie -
Why not oversize (mid-size) muscle-backs?
sblack5 replied to Maverick's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I play the smallest blade irons made......from someone that plays blades I would say that the reason a bigger blade wouldnt work is that most blades are forged and can get a head of similar weight into a smaller package......with a more compact design and more mass behind the center of the club as opposed to the perimeter of the club you can do more with the ball, and you get slightly higher ball speed. -
Which driver? Nike, Adams or Cobra?
sblack5 replied to sebsmash's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
of those that you've narrowed it down to, the 9064 is the lowest spinning and deepest designed head -
what head?......ive swung it in an adams head and its pretty active......If you've got the power it kicks pretty well.......not gonna knock your teeth out and boardy. If I were gonna compare it, I would say that a whiteboard is rigid, the oban devotion is smooth, and the project x is active or lively....you can feel it working

actually I do more than one would think. not all par 5's are straight and open with no trouble. a lot of time if I'm playing a narrow course I will play 4 iron off the tee, 4 iron again, and then whatever is left.....97% of the time its par or better. I may hit driver once or twice a round....and if its a short course I take it out of the bag entirely. Knocks tons of strokes of the game.......even if it is straight...I run out of room. and no, I'm not yankin anyone's chain...I get my distances off trackman and course play.
