Engineering Voodoo - Taylormade Superfast TP
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to delav's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
246 is a good average. I read somewhere that the average male swings the club at 84mph and drives 195y. The "internet average" on this forum seems to be somewhere around 280. People are just plain lying (I'm sure most of the indexes listed here are lower than acutal as well). I hold a driving average of 254 yards, and my average 7 Iron carries 162. In real life, I have been called a "long hitter" many times. Once joining this forum, I looked at some peoples "averages" and felt very short, but then quickly realized alot of them are chuck full of BS. However, this guy is claming he hit a 300y 3-wood one time, and after seeing his swing, I don't find it that hard to believe. My dad has a very wierd swing with a very slow tempo, a really lazy left elbow, and a very odd stance yet just the other day I watched him drive a 316y green, pin high. I've also seen him put many a 3-wood over the back fence at the range. Just because someones swing isn't prefect doesn't mean that they can't get the occasional long ball. -
I have the R9 3 wood as well, and like the R9 469, it is a great club. Great off the deck and of the tee. It's decently forgiving and very workable. I love it. And, of course the FCT is a great feature.

I don't know whether I love it or hate it... But I certainly don't like it.

R9 460 vs. 07 burner
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to newbgolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the 460 and like it alot. The only complaint I have is the workability, no matter what I try to do with the ball it pretty much just goes straight. Not something to worry about with a 30 index though. My brother used to have the '07 burner, and it was a pretty nice club. It sure was long but I found it a bit harder to control and didn't like the feel all that much. I'd say go for the 460, it's long, forgiving, and looks great. Plus it has the adjustable clubhead which is great. -
I shot a 40 today on 9, it was really nice out (75 degrees) and I had alot of fun, had a birdie, a few pars and a few bogeys. Played with my dad and my friend. Overall it was a pretty good round.

What Was Your Score on Your First Round? (Or Best Guess)
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to halcon's topic in Golf Talk
I hit balls at local parks and played at driving ranges a whole year before I played my first round, so I was actually able to break 100 (on a par 65 course however) -
My course now has a no walking before 1:00 rule and weekends. It sucks. I hate carts. I have played a total of four rounds of golf in my entire life with a cart. Played horribly all four times. I don't have time to think between shots, I am much less focused, and I have to look forward at the path driving helplessly while my forged blades are clanking around and getting chunked because the cart path undulates like a little mountain range. I can't get in 18 holes on weekdays due to daylight savings time and now even on weekends I have to sprint from shot to shot just to get in my round before sunset. I am of course exaggerating a bit but, ya know...carts suck

Some guy at my course has knock-off Burner irons and they look very similar, but instead of Burner they say "Inferno". -
I am a driving range hero.
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to TaylorMadeTaylor's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think I found a solution. I befriended a guy who works at my home course and talked to him a little bit about my problem. He basically gave me the "practice less, play more" response, but he says he can hook me up and let me play some holes for practice rounds for free instead of going to the range. I'm definitely going to start doing this instead, but still hit a bucket or two if I have something specific I'm working on. -
I guess I don't care about greenside spin because I am not a single digit index. Thanks for showing me the light, off to buy some top flite XLs.

Played 9 today and fiddled with different pre-shot routines, and I seemed to do best with no practice swings. I also tried visualizing myself being at the range which also seemed to help. Gonna hit 2 buckets tomorrow and play 9 Tuesday (it's going to be 70 degrees!) and see what I can do. -
Golf Galaxy gift certificate. No clue what I am going to get with it...

I saw an infomercial for one of these and thought it looked really cool, especially for the price. The mat looks a little iffy though, looks like it's some cheap ABS plastic that I'll crack with a few iron shots. I'd have to see or use one in real life before I'd buy one. -
Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I bought a new towel, some alignment sticks, and a dozen balls. -
I reguarly play a 230-yarder at my home course, actually the longest I've ever played.
-
I do this alot. On flubbed chips and when I'm hitting 3 off the tee. I have to stop, the worst thing to do after a bad shot is quickly follow it up with another one.

That's a pretty good idea, I ought to try that as well. Thanks for the tips guys. Keep 'em coming -

Yea, that makes sense. Next time I'm playing I'll line up my shots, then just focus on the ball and pretend I'm at the range with no pressure. I'll probably walk nine tomorrow and see how this works. I don't practice swing at all on the range. And, come to think of it when I'm on the course I don't even have a consistent pre-shot routine. This might have something to do with it, too. I need to experiment with different pre-shot routines and see which one works. -
I can't seem to bring my game to the course. I offically concluded this today after doing the following: Hit two buckets, played nine holes, hit another two buckets and played another nine holes. When I was hitting on the range I was hitting everything perfect. Most all of my drives were hitting the middle of the back net, and most all of my irons were purely struck and the balls coming off of them were dead on their respective yardage signs. This has been every range session for me for the past few weeks. I could make anyone think I was scratch by hitting at the range. When I went to play on the course, I was an entirely different golfer. Hooking drives, catching irons fat and thin, flubbing pitch shots, etc. I just can't get my head in the f*****g game. There is a tremedous mental block that prevents me from taking my ability to the course. BTW, at the range I'm not hitting off mats, so it's not like it's easier than the course. It's straight grass, so this is definitely a mental thing. Anyone who can give me some tips or knows how to stop this would be very helpful.

Taylormade Burner Irons 2.0
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to q7w's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I tried the 6-Iron of these last week. I normally don't like TMs GI irons but these suprised me. Very very long. I hit it 190yards compared to my 6-Iron which goes about 175. I guess it's because the burner 6 iron is 27* and mine is 32*, but the face just felt so much hotter. I liked them, but I'm not in the market for this type of club and nothing is replacing my TP blades no matter how beat up they're getting. -
Well, I guess I am wrong. Every tournament I've played in we kept our own score, but I haven't played in any big ones, just local ones and there always at the same course.

Nah, I didn't try the TP. I could right now though (golf galaxy is a five minute walk) but, I don't want to annoy the employees. I already go in there three times a week and hit all of their shiny clubs in the launch monitor for hours without the intention of buying anything. I'm sure the TP version hits better though.
