I certainly don't have the ability to analyze his swing. I wonder what skilled instructors notice. Do you think his swing is typical of a pro if there is such a thing?

Thanks for the fix.

Unsure of the camera angles, but found the slow motion played during the TPC broadcast intriguing. What are your thoughts on Min Woo's swing?

I am back at it. Got cleared by the neurosurgeon. Live in Mid-Michigan and would be glad to join for a Saturday/Sunday golf if there is room. Sounds like a good time.

I have often thought that my foursome would have lower scores if we had crowds standing around us :) Deflections would be common as spectators would not be safe around the greens and fairways. Fewer lost balls (some in the rough) with all those eyes trained on their flight. 2023 1. It is still early, but I think Scottie has a good chance to win though his putting was not up to his standard - missing many by 3 feet or more. 2. Contrast that to Morikawa's putting where he rode the edge of the cup on at least 7 putts that I remember seeing missing by mere inches. 3. What happened to Rory's iron play? Sure, he is driving the ball long, but one has to wonder. 4. Good seeing Fowler apparently getting his game back. Heard he was working with old coach. Has four top ten's so far this season. Would love to see him play great over the weekend. 5. Congrats to Kelly - for becoming the oldest pro to make the weekend cut beating out Palmer by six months or so.

As for the goose guilt - a therapist probably wouldn't understand

30+ years ago I was hitting a bucket of balls at a public driving range that had a busy road curiously close beside it. I was trying to learn how to hit a controlled fade with my Taylor Made Burner Plus driver. My first few efforts came up short. The fourth one, though, was a "winner". Started right - continued right - ultimately bouncing off of a Dodge Omni that was passing by leaving a smaller-than-expected dimple in the center of the hood. After the car pulled into the parking lot behind me an extremely large and angry woman pulled into the parking lot and shared her feelings, particularly concerned that that I could have killed her. Though she was emotionally exercised, she was unhurt and gave me a lecture before leaving abruptly after announcing that she didn't have insurance. On the upside, my fade has gotten better.

If the dude who put 2 in the water is a friend, then indeed that should be an ongoing point of discussion.

"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge
Old1964 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Broke out the momentus speed whoosh to get the machine moving after moving snow for the past couple of weeks. Pretty sure I will get that extra 30 yards of distance now 🤣.- 17,379 replies

It seems to me that golf enthusiasts are not fairly represented in this "dramatic" feature. Producers who put this out were paid too much unless their demographic is 70 year old golfers who can't hit 135 yards.

Good morning from Michigan - 16 degrees here with 8 inches of fresh snow. Feeling grateful that I don't live in Minneapolis (though they do have some very enjoyable courses. What does it mean when the golf announcer repeatedly describes a golfer as having "great hands"? a) the golf announcer is using slang to describe their technical ability to square the club face b) the golf announcer is describing to make great contact in the center of the club face c) the golf announcer is describing how attractive he finds the golfer's hands (a kind of fetish) d) none of the above, but will supply the proper explanation So, what do you think?

My thought is simple - Will Smith was way wrong. He swung outside in, failed to establish and keep a solid footing, and turned his hips way past the target. Not to mention his head position!

I like to play golf - love the swing, the adventure, the unknown! That said, I want to play better golf as I enjoy it much more. I don't need to beat other people or show anyone up. Seems childish to do so. I like what Bagger Vance said - something along the idea that you can only play your best round. Still searching for that. Hope it is ahead or I have already had it and failed to enjoy it.

I don't remember all the trash coming out in previous years. I guess it is this "younger generation" that gets blamed for everything. Fiscally irresponsible - tossing $8 beers 🙂. * Historians have long noted that the older generation felt like the future is hopeless based on the actions of the upcoming generation. Regardless of how "unruly" people got, I would love to be there and be part of the crowd for the hole in one celebration! The two that I have witnessed were not attended by such a rowdy celebration.

The biggest advancement for me happened after I learned to use my wedges - saving par when not in a position for a 2 putt par. The skill to develop = Chipping/pitching it to within a makeable one putt distance I hit thousands of balls from 7 yards and in off the green for a few years, experimented with ball position, loft, etc... and chalk a lot up to the feel and tempo. It is still the key for me. I often drop 5 balls, each about one yard further off the green than the other.

I voted 8. Instruction and training can make you competent. Yet, I believe that confidence is important in order to eliminate tension and help focus the mind on the task at hand - making a good swing. The mind/body connection is broadly appreciated in every discipline I am aware of. On the flip side, trying to "not to hit a bad shot", in my experience, usually means the next shot is going to be generously sprinkled with anxiety.

Wasn't his contention that he believes the rule about the drop around the penalty area was fundamentally short-sighted? Even Phil can connect with him emotionally as they understand what it is like to play golf for a living and that the amateur-led rules committees are slow to address changes that impact their financial bottom line? It seemed he was saying the rule should have been written to say that if the ball moved by natural forces into a hazard after having been placed, it would not be deemed a lost ball. FWIW - I can sympathize with the stream of thought that his comments are petty and smack of elitist thinking. Yet one could still make the point that there has always been a lot of frustration with rules - before they finally get changed.

I do appreciate the feedback - and the back and forth. Was thinking a person could develop the "Socratic Method" of Golf Instruction. I appreciate the thinking. Have a great weekend!

Sounds great. I didn't mean to shorten it on purpose, but rather that his swing looks about as far as I can will be able to go 🙂. Thanks.

Many of know the brutal comparison between our golf swing and the pros. Their speed, flexibility, and consistency puts them in a league of their own. I am a month into my three month training regimen - returning to golf after a 6 year hiatus due to my back. I am going to have limited flexibility. While watching Varner the other day, I thought I could emulate his shorter backswing ... since I couldn't copy Furyk 🤪 any longer. What do you think about his swing? Anything you notice that stands out?

I like the idea. It would seem that it needs to be bigger - more stability perimeter weighting and a power cavity 🙂 Should be heavier to not struggle when it hits ridges or ruts - about 300 lbs. Track-driven. And, finally, run on diesel. Would sell for about 17k

You take bolt cutters with you when you go to the golf course 😂. Good to be prepared!

So many guys here are excellent instructors so I don't have much to add. Glad you posted ... you can expect people to treat you very well on this site. Please share updated swings as you get better. Golf is an amazing game. I'm glad that you get to play it. Enjoy learning, practicing, and getting better.

Before the slice - practice with good instruction. After the slice - I generally noted one of two things: 1. that I had approached the shot too casually, not having a couple well-rehearsed practice swings. 2. that I had been too focused on the outcome instead of the execution. P.S. As others noted, there are several things that can cause a slice, but there is only one thingthat can cure it .... NEW GOLF CLUBS 🙂
