  1. Well, most guys on this forum have fallen victim to the popular, good-looking, new model golf club a time or two . I wouldn't consider your club to be harsh or punishing, but if you are not consistent, a more forgiving driver may help you develop a more relaxed rhythm and better tempo as you won't be stressed out about it. I would consider looking for something more like a Ping K15 or G20. They are known for their playability. They are respectable and well made. The age old argument is whether the problem is the Indian or the Arrows. The truth is while it is the arrow on rare occasions, the Indian needs to take a few lessons. It can be intimidating, but it is worth it to learn what makes a good swing good. A couple of guys who on this site developed the 5 Simple Keys that is being marketed by Medicus Golf. Everything I have seen from it is a great explanation of what makes a good golf swing and how to develop it: steady head, weight forward at impact, hands forward, great swing path, and club head control. The good news is that if you decide to sell your 910 you should do pretty well on it if it is in good shape. Let us know how things go for you.
  2. I have given in to crutches like cavity back irons and graphite shafts... At any rate, I played around with a Niblick a little last year and like it. While I do have a consistent game around the greens, I found the Niblick to be easy and enjoyable. I think that lots of people have never used one and don't know that ... 1. They have shortened shaft for greater control. 2. They set up like a putter - more vertical shaft to promote a simple pendulum swing. 3. They have more bounce to prevent fat shots. I don't know if they are heavier...can't remember that. The zip grooves are nice as well.
  3. I didn't remember that one. But, it is good to see that the pros are human. They shoot some lousy golf every now and then. Of course, they often knock out 3 birdies in a row...haven't done that yet. I've had two in a row and then usually bogey trying for number the third one.
  4. I was eager to get the opportunity to take a look at the leaderboard of the Northern Trust Open today but was stunned to see that Bubba shot 40/37 in today's opening round. Bogeyed number 1 and then 5,6,7,8! I can't remember the last time I saw a pro bogey 4 in a row. Anyone else remember a pro bogeying 4 in a row? I heard that he was trying to keep up with Rickie Fowler in his latest stunt.
  5. Thanks for all of the photos - you really covered the course! I was struck by how "normal" the course looks in your pictures compared to its appearance on tv. What kind of camera/lens were you using?
  6. His point was that he was looking at moving to another state. He did speak up when asked I think to draw attention to what it is like to do business in California (of which I'm guessing 8/10 Californians are clueless). And, if you heard his comments, he was not whining, just didn't appreciate being branded by his state and federal governments as the kind of person who hasn't been paying "his fair share". *** Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic. They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty. - Ben Franklin
  7. Very nice kregan! I think if you did the minimalist frame with the cool outer edges shown on your first model (looked like a person's fingers would grip it o so well), it would be awesome. How much would you want for something like that - that could accommodate a Motorola Razor Maxx?
  8. Not gonna quote any of the tst members here regarding their pissy attitude toward Phil, but I will say it sucks. His character and life speaks for itself. And, for those of you who think that doing the best you can with the opportunity that this life provides you somehow deserves anything other than congrats on a life well-lived, you need to take another look at your value set. I feel sorry for you if you fell for the line of crap that your 3rd grade teacher told you about how wonderful life is and that it should be fair for everyone. Life isn't fair. Never has been. Never will be. As Frank Sinatra said, "That's life."
  9. 1. Knowing that Phil gives away millions...who do you think would accomplish more with his money? The treasury of the state of California? Or Phil and his wife? Maybe if he stays in California he can help fund their park system for millions where illegals are farming marijuana crops and post signs warning hikers to avoid certain areas due to suspicious activity seen in the area. Don't believe me...google it. 2. He is responding because he feels that he was singled out by his government, a government that he supports generously. 3. There was talk about his involvement in a large business deal - I believe he was asked about that - he answers the question from a business standpoint. Why should he risk his capital in an fiscal environment that is hostile to business. California residents, who have means are relocating by thousands. Phil is not alone. 4. Income taxes should be used to collect revenue for the state and federal government. Instead, it is used to redistribute wealth - some people I know paid less than 2,000 in income tax this year and will get their check back from the government for 7,800 in just a few weeks. Of course, they dropped out of school as teens, one has served jail time for theft and dui (completely irresponsible in their lives). 5. I wouldn't care if Phil made 10 billion dollars a year...if he was able to pull it off, then he shouldn't be punished for his success.
  10. No offense taken. But, don't some golfers arrive at a static position at the top of their backswing? If there is a wrong way to begin your downswing, there must be a right way? For instance, I know that it is incorrect to start the downswing with your head! I agree with you that it would be great to look at the swing, analyze it, and fix it. But, of course, wouldn't the teacher tell you something like, "You need to start your downswing with..."?
  11. The real reason they both played so poorly is that Tiger and Rory were out partying the night before the tournament began. They both had a bit of a hangover. Nike sponsored the binge drinking and arranged for Abu Dhabi rap artists, One Hump or Two, to keep the party going. Morning of start...wan't hair of the dog...it was hair of the camel!
  12. I thought about it, but I knew that everyone was so biased that I could never be taken seriously if I preferred Hammer over Titlest - BBBBAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMM!
  13. I'm thinking I may have to change my equipment description so I will be perceived as an objective, open-minded thoughtful person rather than an ideologue. 1-2 irons - Wilson (cause they have won more majors than any other club) 3-5 irons - Miura (cause they are forged in the fires of the gods and turn each user into a golf ninja) 6-9 irons - Mizzuno (cause they are the equivalent of hitting a ball with a stick of butter) PW - Ping (cause who doesn't like the colored dot fitting system) GW - Edel (cause you can never go wrong with bounce) SW - Callaway (cause Phil MIckelson has an awesome short game and he may have played them at one time in his life) Rescue Hybrid - Adams (cause it is what they do best) 3W - Taylormade (cause you can get a new model every year now!) Driver - Titlest (cause they make the best drivers in the entire world and will never be surpassed) Putter - Medicus (cause with the overspin putter you can master the universe)
  14. Please read above on the thread and see that I was asked a question of what I would do after I posted the comments from Nick Faldo. I wasn't passing judgment on Rory's decision to take the money and the clubs. I was merely reflecting on a hypothetical question asked of me - of what I might do - while conceding if I could swap out clubs at my discretion I would take the money. So, I am not condemning Rory's decision. On the other hand, I would add that I think Tiger gradually phased in his Nike clubs over a few years which seems to be very wise. Rory's decision to change the putter on day two speaks volumes. Finally, people with millions (and I know a few) take much more satisfaction in life in their achievements not in their net worth. Faldo's on air comments seemed to make that point. I thought his comments were substantial in that he speaks from a perspective of making millions and winning majors. Yes. I get it. Of course, no one will ever know if the Rory made the best business decision due to the uncertainty of life. Had he another great year and finished #1 in 2013, he might have been offered an even better offer - millions more each year and a longer contract. The opposite is also true. He could have a career ending injury getting out of a hot tub. As Frank Sinatra said, "That's Life".
  15. It is the horror of men that they judge themselves by their intentions and others by their actions. While we typically think about how great Tiger had it (or has it depending on your perspective), we seldom consider the notion that his affluence, talents, opportunities, and accomplishments have also provided nearly endless opportunities to destroy himself and others through choosing pleasure and tranquility over the virtues and responsibilities of reality.
  16. Great question. If I was no. 1 in the world, at the top of my game, and expected to make a few million in the upcoming season with my current clubs, would I jeopardize that? Probably not. For me, I think I could live well on a few million and enjoy not having to change anything. On the other hand, though Rory didn't answer the reporter's question about his contractual obligations - as to whether he could swap out clubs (e.g. his putter), I suspect he must have that freedom. If that's the case, I would take the money and then play whatever clubs felt best to me. Of course, all this is merely academic as neither one of them play Mizzys.
  17. The success of the Covert Driver remains a "secret" at this point. Sir Nick said it well when he said something to this effect..."Having risen to the #1 position in golf and considering the next 10 years, what would a golfer rather have - all the cash or 10 majors?"
  18. I understand. His way in dealing with uncomfortable questions just grates on me a bit. I would rather he just said, "I don't want to talk about that." and move on. Like the way he handled the question about his two-stroke penalty for claiming an embedded lie and taking the free drop.
  19. Aha! Yes. I know that this is going to be the key for my new golf season. Of course, I just had a video done and was shown how I get quick with the hips and drop the club back behind myself which results in low, ghastly hook.
  20. The shift to the left side...yes. The stretch, the lag...got it. I have actually hit some balls at the range with the hip turn starting before the club reaches the top of my backswing, but found it to be too difficult to do with any consistency.
  21. Surely, this is an easy one for those of you who know... Is it true that regardless of how the downswing is initiated, everything should start moving at the same time - turning around the steady head? It seems that people say the turn of the hips starts the downswing, but even then, since everything is connected, when the hips turn, the torso and arms turn with it.
  22. Pretty sure it was 104-107 on the trackman when I was fitted for my new driver toward the end of the summer. I'm 48 and am sure I used to swing a lot faster when I was 28. Of course, I used to do a lot of things faster when I was 28.
  23. Looking for affirmation in all the wrong places...are you sure you are patrick57 come back to haunt us?
  24. Indeed. Of course, Tiger's lies affected him, his wife, his children, probably gave great amount of pain to relatives on both sides...typical fallout made worse by being the focus of media attention for a couple of years. Lance Armstrong lied and then tore people up whenever they told the truth about him. He annihilated friends, fellow cyclists on his team, and then contacted at least a couple of them on the phone in preparation for the Oprah interview and refused to retract the lies he told about them when they had told the truth. He never apologized to them for hurting them, ruining their reputations, causing them intense emotional suffering, and sidelining some of their professional careers. He was vicious and vindictive. He seems to fit the pattern of the self-involved jerk who does public acts of charity to feel better about himself and to add value to his $brand$. I'm sure he cares - fighting cancer - something that threatened his personal well-being and am appreciative of the livestrong foundation. I hope that he faces civil and criminal charges for his actions. He is responsibility.
