Really depends on what you need, need some details about your swing to make a good recomendation. Personally I have the Project X's in two of my sets, for me they work.

I had this same decision when I was going with the iron set in my signature. I finally went with the Flighted Rifles because I wasn't sure that I could get the Project X Shafts in a Regular flex (I only have a 95-100MPH Driver swing speed).

Performance wise as others have said will play very differently from one another.

I liked the overall feel of the Flighted Rifles better so I wen't with them instead.

Go test 'em out at a local pro shop and see which you like better.

You can get the Project X shaft in a regular but it wasn't designed with a slower swing speed in mind because of the weight and kick point.

Absolutely! I ended up with the Project X in my irons for a several reason. I bought my Mizuno's used and they already had the Project X's in them, so the price was right. I already hit the ball high so I was looking for a lower ball flight, I'll admit though that on days when my swing is off the shafts aren't very good feeling however on everyother day I love them.

Go test 'em out at a local pro shop and see which you like better.

I recommend taking a middle or short iron and having your local shop install a PX shaft, then you will know how it will play in your irons. Worst case if you hate the shaft you're only out the cost of one.

You have to look at the cost too, Project X are double the price of Rifles. So is the cost worth the price for you game. Afterall it's not how far or how pretty it's how many.

Hmmm, why would RP even offer the PX in a Regular flex if it's not meant for that type of player? Seems peculiar as I could only see it hurting a slow swingers game in the long run. Anyways, I'm still very pleased with the Flighted Rifles I have equipped on my irons, so no complaints on this end. I'm glad I got them when I did, I could now see Rifle shafts going pretty high in price after True Temper bought Royal Precision out.

Because before anything else, RP is a business, and since Regular Flex is probably the largest market share of all the flexes, it's in their best interest to put one out there...

Besides, Joe Hackalot likes showing off the Project X label when he pulls his clubs out of the bag. RP knows that Oh, and RP's got the Project X High Launch shafts out now, so Jimmy Chunkshot can get some air under 'em too...

Good point, guess I really didn't think about it from a business stand-point too well... Thanks for clarifying.

so I am a little confused here...

everyone here who once played or currently plays the DGs300 and looking at PX's are considering 5.5's... well I wouldn't consider my swing very fast at all (6 iron - 87mph) but after several professional fitting sessions with a titleist rep using launch monitors I was fitted into the PX 6.0's

in these sessions we testes a number of shafts in a 735cm 6 iron... and the PX 6.0 (determined by the computer and not myself) produced lower spin and carried my ball further than a PX 5.5, Rifle 6.0 and s300... so is the computer wrong or are people here under estimating their ability?

Swing speed isn't the only factor. You talked about spin - what's their angle of attack versus yours?

Also, with any shaft, how you load it is more important, often, than how fast you actually swing it.

well I dont I load the club to much but I have a really steep angle of attack. I really throw a lot of weight into the ball... they feel pretty nice, but yes I agree that when you mishit you know it... not very forgiving clubs/shafts

For me I like the Rifles (flighted version) but not the PXs. The PXs feel pretty nasty for me. That said I have DGS300 in my current irons and love them; they seem to be a really good fit with the clubheads.

Anyone out there had experience with the KBS shafts? Heard some good rumours....

I have always played DG S300. (Even had X100 for one summer)

I was fitted to 5.0 PX's. My 6i swing was at 80-82. This was fitted at Golf Smith by a local pro that kinda knows my game. I thought ...no way But it turns out they work for me. They are in X-forged Callaways

I am a 15 handicap senior golfer and recently was fitted by a PGA fitting center. I had no expectations nor any professed shafts since I wanted to keep a totally open mind and that was very difficult for me since I have a 40 year history of yo-yo golf. I had just come off of two major back surgeries and toe surgery so didn't want to eliminate any options. After a full day at the fitting station and two hours at the outdoor range, the results were very surprising. I was fitted with 5.5 Project X shafts and graphite 5.5 in the hybrid and woods. I haven't played steel shafts in two decades and thought the findings were crazy. The fitter insisted that the results were exactly as needed. I ordered a complete set of clubs and received them last week. After half hour of work on the range, I played nine holes. I was 2 under after the first 3 holes and was stripping the irons without a noticeable lack of distance but really stop on as far as direction was concerned. Ended the 9 holes at 3 over, but was thrilled with the results. Hit balls at the range today and love the heft and feel of the irons. Highly recommend this shaft for ALL handicaps. Hope this helps

I just did a fitting addressing this...i was shocked at the results. I am average length, about 295 off the T in internet length (240-260 or so in real life) - one of my regular 4-some did the same fitting - he is a good 15 yards to 20 yards longer off the t and a full club with irons. What we found was staggering.

He was loading on a 6 iron at about 2.3 to 2.7. The is inches of bend from the staft start. I was loading it at 6.5 to 6.75 for tha same swing...if you watched us each swing there is nobody we know that guessed. Every person assumed he was loading the club more because of how hard he swings...i ended up getting new shafts and tweecking a couple of lofts.

I have no idea if load is good or bad, i know my swing is a long way from perfect but the clubs have certainly narrowed my range of miss...as long as i make a decent swing. A terrible shot is still terrible no matter what you are swinging.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
