Im thinking about picking up a set of Eye 2's in pretty good condition. Im a high handicapp golfer, but I thought it might be kind of fun to pick up a classic set of irons to swing around for fun.

Are these forgiving at all or am I just wasting a couple hundred bucks?

Thanks!

IMHO Eye 2's are not only the best game improvement irons of all time, they're the best irons ever made by any manufacturer. Are they forgiving? In spades, brother! You would not be wasting a couple of hundred bucks on some Eye 2's because they can be purchased relatively inexpensively on Ebay and can almost always be resold for what you paid for them.

There is no such thing as "wasting money on a set of PING Eye-2's". Buy them up and enjoy!

I loved my Ping Eye-2's when I was playing them. A very forgiving iron set. It's kinda weird, I was playing this weekend with a guy who had a set of G5's I believe. At first glance, I thought they were some old Ping Eye-2's. It's pretty amazing that style and club head shape is still being deployed today after 20+ years. That in itself should give you some idea how well designed those clubs are.
I've still got my old set too, but would probably be selling them for a little more than a couple hundred bucks. They're a full beryllium copper white dot set (1 - L-wedge) with all matching serial numbers. Let me know if you might have some interest.

Good luck with your decision!

they're nice clubs but the long irons are hard to hit compared to more modern ones. (I find them hard to hit anyway)

I'd love to have a full set of them.
are you getting the woods with them?

You are a silly dude. In one thread you say old blades aren't hard to hit. In the next you say the long eye 2's are hard to hit.

A blade 3i is easier to hit than the Ping Eye 2 3i that's at the range.

Maybe it's mental, but I don't think it is.

No woods, just saw them for sale at Global Golf. Has anyone used them and are they reputable???

I just gotta check to see what color dot I would use. I believe the clubs I saw were black dot, which I believe is standard? Thanks for the replies!

Yes I have and yes they are. But get a fitting first. If you end up with one of the "off-standard" color codes like red, orange, white, gold, or maroon there are some real bargains to be had on Ebay. I just saw a set of orange dot Eye Two's sell for $81.00.

I have had 2 sets of Eye 2s (and still have one set - my plus no pluses - in the closet) and they are great clubs. They were my first real set and worked really well for me, and compared to a new set, are relatively cheap. The only downside (if you view it that way, but I personally didn't) is that they are about 1 club weaker than what you have probably used. They were produced before the "loft strengthening revolution." If that bothers you, go another route, but you won't be sorry you have them if you buy them!

That's a good idea. I take it just going off the chart on the PING website probably isn't good enough huh?

Ping Eye-2 ranks as a SGI club with an MPF above 700.

Played Eye-2 clones for 14 years, and they were great clubs. Main reason I switched was they had Stiff shafts, and I made a move to Regular.

Does anyone know if Ping will still make a set of Eye-2s on custom order?

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I just bought a set of BeCu's and I am a very high capper and after buying these and working on my swing on my own I went out this weekend and shot a 82 that's right a 82 with these. These are buy far the best and nicest looking set of clubs I have ever played with. Buy them and don't look back. I would agree that if you can find a store that would let you hit off a white board and get an idea of what length you need ( I did this and found exactly what I needed 1/2" long black dot midsize grips ). You wont can't loose on them.

I spoke to the rep last week and the answer was yes, they will.

As for the earlier comment that a set of orange dots was $81 on ebay, I'd say there must have been a reason for it. Like mis-matched serial numbers, or mis-matched shafts or something. A decent matching used set is going to run $175 or more in my experience.

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
    • He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
