I have been haveing trouble commiting to my swings lately with my irons and wedges. I know you just have to tell your self to believe in the shot and go for it but im haveing trouble with it. Im not sure what to do. Maybe no practice swings? Suggestions would be appreciated thanks a bunch.

I know that when I have such a problem I eventually narrow it down to one specific thing. For instance, when I started getting used to my new irons and wasn't comfortable with the distances I had a lot of doubt about how far the ball would go. When I got the distances figured out to a better accuracy my ability to commit improved. On the same note, when I wound up playing a new course that had terrible markings I wound up having problems commiting again.

Another option is to just stop caring about your outcome. Look at your target, look at the ball, and just hit it with the best contact you can. Think to yourself that you are going to hit it wherever it's going to go and if it happens to be somewhere you didn't want it to go so be it. That's easier said than done, but it has worked at times for me.

Good luck.

I don't think you should stop your practice swings. That will only add more doubt when it comes time to hit the shot. Take the practice swings (half swings if you're more comfortable with those - which is what Steve Elkington, Annika Sorenstam, Phil Mickelson, and other pros do). Practice the clubs - the more they preform in practice the more confidence you will have when you need to execute the shot on the course. Finally, focus on your target. If you get locked on your target other things (like doubt) will slip out of your mind.

I'll hit a shot "harder".

I was having this exact problem today and i found that if i have the option, It worked out better to choose to hit a hard seven instead of a smooth 6 or 5. Its just a lot easier to commit to my shot. So if i have 175, and my regular 7 is 170, i hit hard 7 instead of smooth 6.

Just a thought...find what works for you.

When you come to address with the ball, lift your right heel(if you are right handed) slightly off the ground, now swing the club focussing on hitting the golf ball first. If you get this down you will become very consistant with your irons and wedges...bwgolfer
