Golf Galaxy Lessons

I just booked a lesson at my local Golf Galaxy here in Rockville, MD. A friend told me about there setup and I have been playing for a little over a year now and I finally am takin the first steps towards improving my game. Is anyone familiar with there setup and is this a good place to get lessons from. I was told they have the cameras there and they show you your swing and make improvements from there. Anything I should be prepared for?

Before joining GolfTec, I took a package of six lessons from Golf Galaxy. You're correct in saying that they have high speed cameras that can capture your swing and analyze it using V1 Pro software. They can also save the lesson on to their web servers from which you can access afterwards. It's a pretty slick set up, and if you signed up, you'd get relatively inexpensive lessons ($35-$40 per lesson) that you can take any time of the year because they're indoors. One downfall is that your ball will be hitting up against a net and you won't be able to see results. But, that's what the range is for, right?

well do they have up some kind of simulator to see what your ball would do?

To answer your question, it can be a good place to learn how to swing. Besides the lack of a range, the resources are there at the disposal of the teaching pro. I say that it can because it all depends on the instructor. I'd say to go in with an open mind and try a few lessons to see if it's comfortable with you. Make sure to ask a few questions and see how the instructor responds and handles them.

To answer your second question, the Golf Galaxy store I visited did have two additional booths available to customers who want to try out the new golf equipment. One had a video game like simulator where it showed the continuation of your ball in flight after it came into contact with a large screen back drop.

Although we could have used it, during my six lessons, we stayed in the practice area instead. The problem being that the simulator was in constant use by the other customers. I remember my instructor saying that if the lesson was near the closing hours, I could hit a few on the simulator with him once the store was locked up.

I agree that you that there shouldn't be any problems. At first, the instructor will most likely analyze different parts of your swing, find some flaws, and then prescribe some drills to remedy them. Because the pro won't be able to see your swing, it's important to communicate to him/her what your match/range swing results are like. But then again, if you've got a good teacher, he/she will already know your ball flight characteristics from seeing your in-booth swings.

I have pretty muched already diagnosed my problem ( my drives result in a straight ball for about 200 yards then a hard right hand turn lol and my irons i seem to slice but only slightly but i have a tendency to hit well behind the ball) but i cant seem to fix these problems so hopefully after explaining this to him and him seeing my swing he can help me out
