I have a severe problem. In search of optimizing my game, I'm constantly searching for new clubs: irons, hybrids, wedges. I've been searching for another set of irons and had narrowed it down to the original Tom Lehman TM 300s or the TM RAC 2005 CBs. The mistake I made was going into my local golf store and hitting the following:

Bridgestone J36 Pocket Cavity
Adams Idea Pro Gold

Both had the Project X 6.0 shafts and felt awesome. Comparible to both TMs that I had narrowed down to. Now, I'm starting my search over.

Is anyone like me? Always looking to improve and falling to the mercy of golf equipment? Damn companies have to stop making appealing equipment. You're frustrating me!

I'm trying so hard to resist the urge of buying new equipment. Whether it's to improve my game or just having the newest stuff on the market. I bought my iron set about 3 months ago and already getting the urge to get Mizuno blades.

I promised myself that once I get all the equipment I need, I'll keep them for a couple seasons at least unless it's a MUST or I find an amazing deal. Either way, I need to stop browsing on Ebay and golf websites. Oh the temptation!!!

I used to be a club ho like that, but new clubs arent going to make you better. If you want to get better, you gotta put in the work to improve your swing.
Buying new clubs all the time is fun, but in the end its nothing more than an Akira's dragon.

And that's my problem. I'll browse on ebay and read reviews and it becomes "hmm, I'll give those a few swings."

It's not like I don't love my Mizunos. I do, they're awesome. However, seeing great clubs for $130, $180, $200, either new or close to new is like giving a kid some candy.

I've decided that after my recent upgrades, I'm keeping my configuration. I'll probably pick up a hybrid and two more wedges so that I can vary the configuration I take with me any given day, but I don't plan to get new clubs beyond that. Once I pick up those three, I'll keep that as my clubs until I graduate.

Or, more realistically, until I change my mind

But yes, it's tough.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I have a severe problem. In search of optimizing my game, I'm constantly searching for new clubs: irons, hybrids, wedges. I've been searching for another set of irons and had narrowed it down to the original Tom Lehman TM 300s or the TM RAC 2005 CBs. The mistake I made was going into my local golf store and hitting the following:

You know, the pro at my driving range once told me that it's best to get used to your current irons rather than getting new clubs once/twice in a month. He meant that using new clubs needs time of getting used to. Make them blend into you and your swing and build that confidence and he implied.

At first new clubs may seem to be superior compared to your current irons, but over time you'll slowly discover that they're not meant for you (or perhaps they will). From my experience, there's this one time a close a friend of mine switched his irons every 3 weeks and I got to try them too. I still recall he got new Callaway X-Tour which he brought to the range with him that night. He hit them very nice and high. He flushed every shots and he told me it felt great to him. About one and a half week later he complained how dead it felt just like hitting rock. Moreover, he hit the ball fat more often than pure. He also mentioned that although quite small the club looks too bulky at address for his taste. "This needs to go" he said. That's just one story. He kept searching on clubs until he find one to his preference, MP-32 and stick to it until this day. To think of it, clubs come in different classes/levels. Although technology is constantly improving in drivers, I do honestly think there's no significant improvement in the irons (well except those super GI irons). So if you're in certain level on irons say cavity blade irons, other brands in the same level pretty much is the same. That is why you'll find the design of such irons is surprisingly quite similar in the same level between brands. Perhaps this is also why a pro can hit pretty much every irons well, but they have their own preferences of irons to use in tournaments. The one they put their faith into. If I had extra money I too would become a club ho. Have you seen the new TM Rac MB in smoke PVD finish? Perhaps Japanese TM TP Forged 2007? Or the new Mizuno MP-62 and MP-52? MP-67 is also fine looking. How about Miuras? Wow are they great or what? I'd hit it! Anyway, some club manufacturers make a lot of money from club hoes and that's why they constantly releasing new products every time with just minor to no improvement over the old/current products. This has been my .02 cents. Hope they help.

I just bought a new set of irons (should be here in the next few days). I am fairly certain that I did more research and 'test drives' than when I bought my last car. Let's see, triple the research and testing for $700 compared to $20,000. The thing I hate the most is that now that I spent all that time, I know next year there will be something new. Why can't they just keep a good product around if people like it? As popular as the AP2 is, in the next year or two there will be an 'improved' AP4 or something. I love my old small head driver, but that is a thing of the past. Now if I want a new driver I almost have to get a 460cc. I don't want one of those, I want a 360cc. Do you hear me , , , , , , , ! Not everyone wants a large head driver, and I don't want to think that my new irons will be obsolete in a year. If I really like them, will I be able to get another set just like them in 6-7 years when mine wear out? Probably not, I'll be forced to buy whatever they decided to make that year. That is why my 3-wood is 10 years old. I like it and I don't want something new. All my stuff is old, if I like something I keep it around. I guess after this set of irons I am done buying. I don't need anything else, so they won't be getting my money for several years.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I'm NEVER satisfied with my bag! For instance this year I picked up a new set of irons and I absolutely love them. For a few months I was fine... then picked up a new putter, was fine for another few months and now am scheming to find funds to buy the new Titleist wood series *driver, 3 wood and possible hybrid*

I always get sidetracked like that. Forunatly I didn't with Irons.

When I went to get my driver I was going for the King Cobra M Speed. then I hit it and as I glanced over I saw the Nike Sasquatch at the same price.

With no intention to buy the Nike I hit it, and then later walked out with it.

Guys,

Thank you for letting me know that I am not the only one. It's really frustrating when you're seeking that little edge and can't quite find it. Perhaps, I need to come to the realization that this might be the best I'll be and gain satisfaction from that. Or maybe not...??

Guys,

Junkie there is something you have to do. As dumb as it may sound, you have to ignore tempting clubs. When I'm looking for a club I could try every one of them and be in there all day. What I do is narrow it down to honestly the most popular. (Dumb I know) but I find the most popular is usually the best or close to right?

Even if you see something interesting.. walk away. It may be good, but leave it or you'll have to walk up to the demo booth with 50 clubs in your hand. I like to narrow it down to 3. Or else I'll be there forever.

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
