Cleveland CG10 vs CG12 vs CG14

I have a good idea on the general differences between the CG10, CG12 and CG14 wedges. But I have never hit any of them. I'm thinking of replacing my Vokeys in the spring or maybe as early as Christmas. Vokeys are awesome wedges no doubt! Mine are just getting a little worn after almost 2 full summers of play. I'm not obsessed with spin, but I can sure use the spin a new set of grooves give. This is especially true on chip shots and short pitches. And being a low ball hitter, my full swing sandwedge sometimes releases 5 or more yards with NXT Tours. That's fine. I've never backed a shot up that wasn't assisted by the slope of the green. I'm not really looking for that either (no offense to those that do).

I thought I'd let you guys weigh in on what are the pros and cons of each of these 3 models. I'm not saying I'm not interested in any other brands, I just started this thread to talk about these 3 models specifically.

I used to own CG12s and a CG10 and I once borrowed a CG14 for a round. I noticed very little difference between the three. The 14 might have felt a little more muted than the others, but not much - it wasn't a huge difference. And the "zip grooves" on the 12s and 14s didn't give me any more spin than I got with the 10 (but I don't generate alot of spin to begin with). They were all fine wedges, but I switched to my Mizunos because I like the feel better and their sole grind makes them more versatile than the CGs.

Yessir..

i never did warm up to clevland wedges. it hought the spin they generate is no where near equivalent to vokeys, i mean, a new cg 12 i didnt think spun any more than my worn in voks.

Personally, i am in the same boat as you. I love my vokeys, but something inside of me wants something new. I tried TM TP's and i really just didnt like them, Have not tryed cally's, but i spin the ball enough, i dont need bigger grooves! haha, but i am really thinkin about mizzys, MPT, 51, 56, 60, and bend the 56 to 55.

Well, recently I was in the same boat; worn Vokey's and wanting Clevelands. I went to a shop that had a nice selection of demo wedges and I ended up with the CG12. They were great in the shop's hitting room, but when I got to the course it was a different story. I could not hit them for s**t, I either bladed or fluffed them. The few shots I hit well with them were short compared to the vokes. On the second round, I ended up playing a friends Callaway Forged + wedges(old model before the X-forged). The next day I went back and got 2 Forged +s and put my X-16 AW back in the bag. I am not saying that the Cleves are bad, they were just not for me. I would recommend finding a demo to play on the course with before purchase.

I was in the same boat as you early this year, was playing a set (52,56,60)of old gifted vokeys that didnt bite at all. every wedge, every swing, would release without much control.

I borrowed a a buddy's set of fairly new CG10's, and felt like I was playing the exact same clubs, no bite, no control.

I rented a set of clubs while visiting a buddy in Florida, and happened to get a 54 and 58 in cg14's - like was mentioned earlier, the insert makes them feel very muted, felt like I was losing touch on the ball, but had better bite.

I ended up buying a random cg12 52 with a Project X 5.5 shaft from the used bin at Golfsmith, and loved it from the very first round - able to control it very well with great bite. The spin wasnt torturous, but I was able to stop the ball within 12-18" of every shot from 1/2 swing to full swing, closed face to layed wide open. This ended up being exactly what I was looking for, and I built a 56 and 60 to match the used 52, with ProjectX 5.5's in each. I love these clubs, and will probably build another set just like them when these wear out.

I recently got a CG12 DSG 56, and I love it. I tried out both the CG12 and CG14 in 56 degree, and found for me that the CG12 just felt the best. I do think though that the CG14 is easier to hit on a full shot though, due to the sole, it doesn’t dig quite as much as the CG12.

On chips I can get my CG12 to one hop stop, which is a totally new experience for me, as I’m a fairly love spin player, but I recon it looks very cool. I does put more importance on making a good contact every time though, as if you hit it slightly thin it just run straight across the green.

Also I recon the DSG is awesome around the green, it gives you so many options, but I’m not sure about it for full shots.
