Hey Guys! I'm new here, just joined up because I need some advice for a gift for my friend. I like golf, but haven't got into it myself yet. He's not a pro, but he really gets into it. I know that he goes to golfing forums too(I hope he won't see my post if he visits this forum!). He's not the type that goes to the sporting good store, and buys whatever is flashing, he does his research, joins in discussions, and then makes purchases. I want to get him something small and simple, yet nice. He gets himself nice clubs, and I wouldn't want to get him anything like that.

My friend doesn't like how rich people at the course use expensive balls and hit them into lakes, just losing money, and not even caring. As far as I know, he plays with cheap balls. So lets get him some balls!

I have two ideas, I'll go with one based on your recommendations.

1.) Personalized balls with his name on them. This is definitely the more unique idea, but I'm not sure how special it'll be, I don't really see the point in it anymore. They wouldn't have to be anything special, I would just need a recommendation to an online place that lets you write your name on the ball.

2.) Top of the line balls. My friend works at one of the largest companies in the world, and sometimes he gets to golf with some very important people. They have no problem affording the top of the line balls, and wacking them into the lakes. So wouldn't it be cool if my friend could have a pack of the best balls to show off with? I know that he'd never buy them himself, but at the same time, I really think he would enjoy having as good of, if not better balls than the high ranking people he plays with. I'm leaning towards this idea. I would need to know what some really good balls are, and where I can buy them online. Of course not the best, nothing that would be considered cheating either, just ones that truly work well, and it'll be better yet if they were known for being top of the line as well. I'll get him a pack of 3 or something.

Thanks in advance! :)

Well I believe the general consensus on option 2 would be the Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x. They will run you about $50/dozen. They are very good balls, just somewhat hard to hit, for some.

ProV1...hands down!

I am not one that usually buys into the hype...but...if virtually ALL of the best players in the world use them...well...there must be something to it. I got a dozen for Christmas and played saturday with them....WOW...I have never really noticed a difference from ball to ball...but the ProV1's...its no secret why the best of the best use them. You can notice the difference on a well struck ball...hard enough off the tee and very soft around the greens. It rolls well, it flies well, and the cover doesnt scar or rip on a wedge shot. If you dont lose too many balls in a round, they are well worth the cost.

Try the Callaway tour ix ball and you'll be just as impressed, maybe more so I was a Titleist faithfull for a long time but these balls are absolutely great all around.I even thought they had a little more poop off of the driver than the Pro v1x and have a cover tha t is almost sticky so you know there's gonna be some zip off the wedges.
