I have a 15 3wood that is not kind to me off the deck, and a 17 degree cleveland launcher 5w that is amazing but has a stiff shaft and I cant pull out my full potential from it. So I need to fill the 15-18 degree with SOMETHING. Either a hybrid or a 5wood cant decide. But I need it to be a distance club cause I cant play a 3 wood yet off the deck consistently enough to break it out during play.

And then I have one more gap, I have a 45 degree PW and a 60 degree lob wedge. So I need like a 53-56* here?

Lastly I have $225 credit at callaway preowned, and they sell all brands not just callaway. Im a 20 handicap , but its mostly short game issues that make me that way. Probably cause my only choice is a PW or LW lol in my bag.

So Id like to here what I should fill my 16-18 degree with and my 50-56 degree with. My golf store only has like the newest clubs , Im not paying 150 bucks for a club, so thats why I cant really try out these 2005-2007 series clubs

Thanks for your insight.

I was checking out this Ping Rapture Hybrid 18 degree, R flex. but I dont know if thats too much loft for my main distance club on par 5s or long par 4s.

I can't speak for low-loft end of your problem, but on the other end I would get a 52* GW. That is almost dead even between your PW and LW. I'd be pretty lost without mine.

How about going with the following setup:

Driver: 10.5*
4-Wood: 17*
Hybrids: 21*, 24*, 27*
Irons: 6-PW
Wedges: 52*, 56*, 60*
Putter

I purchased my Sonartec NP-99 4-wood off eBay for $100 and it rocks. Much easier to hit than my old 3-wood. Then, you can use your $225 gift card towards the 52* Gap Wedge and 56* Sand Wedge. This will ensure you have no gaps in your short game and you have a full set of clubs that you can hit.

I could go 4 wood, I actually just realized that my cleveland 17* IS a 4wood not a 5wood. And I crank on it, its just the shaft is too stiff.. So I could get the cleveland launcher 2006 for 50 bucks in regular shaft since I know I love the club. Unless there might be something better by now, but I never hit the hybore series so I dont know if they feel the same at impact as the launcher series. If they dont then im not interested..

But a 4wood might be a good choice. Who makes a great 4wood right now or over the last couple years? Geared toward higher handicaps

For your 17* 4 wood, just get a softer shaft. Get it reshafted; it's that simple. You could try the 3 wood in a regular flex and see if that works. For only $50, it's a good deal.

For your wedge situation, going 45, 52, 56, 60 wouldn't cover your gaps properly. There would be 7* between PW and GW. If you would like to go with 4 wedges, then try 45, 50, 55 (56 or 54 bent to 55*), 60. Or you could just drop the 60* entirely and just go 45, 50, 55. If you would rather have 3 wedges, I would buy a 52. It's almost directly between your 60* and PW in terms of loft. It would probably cover your gaps.

I think you should be more worried about filling the gaps with your wedges. If you're 200+ out, what are your chances of hitting the green anyway? If you have a 20 yard gap with your wedges, that's bad. With woods, it's not as big of a deal.

I really do good with my 60 cause I learned with it so I know its boundaries and what I can do with the club so I will keep it. I am going to pick up a 52 for sure, it makes sense and play with it and learn it, then I will add a 56 if its deemed necessary. I have a mac burrows 60 degree that I am a fan of, and it was dirt cheap. Any recommendations on what gw would be right for a higher handicap? Maybe I will just pickup another Mac burrows one but they dont have em at callaway preowned and I need to eat up this credit.

As far as the low loft situation, its not really a distance issue, cause my 4w, goes the same distance as my 3w, farther really cause its straight, so Its more about finding a club in that loft range that I can hit consistently, Losing 10 yards at this point in my game is not a concern. All else fails I will just get a regular shaft in this one I currently have but wouldnt mind seeing what else might be out there too. Im kind of a up and coming club *****.

Well I think I am going to go with a 17* Ping Rapture 5wood in R flex. From reviews/price/shaft length it sounds like money. They dont have a cleveland launcher in 17 degree on there Rflex, so If this rapture doesnt do its job im just gonna reshaft my 4wood cleveland.

Still hunting down a GW that sounds good

You've been givin some great advice so far. The only thing I can add is that IF you continue to use a 60* I'd advise the 45,50,55 & 60 setup. A 45* and 52* seems like a bit of a spread IF you are trying to fill the gaps with full swings.

Now here is the part where someone recomends what they have in their bag just because it is good for them...LOL.

Seriously you might want to try a 2004 Callaway Big Bertha 5+ wood. These aren't the largest clubheads so they are easy to hit off the deck. The 5+ is 17* of loft in a 5 wood head and shaft (42"). The extra 1/2" less than a standard 4 wood really makes it easy to hit the center. But either way, unless you are looking to keep a 3 wood for off the tee exclusively, a 17* wood would be a great choice. If you do keep the 3 wood and the 60*, maybe get a 54* sandwedge with plenty of bounce (12* or more). It'll work better out of the sand and fluff than most gap wedges. Then if you find the need to bend it stronger you will still have plenty of bounce left to do the job.

Good luck!
