I finally took some video of my swing today.

Some background: I've been playing casually for a few years, but starting in January I began taking things more seriously (i.e. playing multiple times per week, practicing daily). I had to take a few weeks off in April because of a pulled muscle and work related stuff. Since then I've been battling a persistent low draw/hook. This is in contrast to an even more relentless high fade/slice that I had for years. In my effort to correct the slice, I guess I overcompensated.

Anyway, here are the videos...

The first thing I notice is that I appear to be wrapping the club too far behind me. I think this causes me to come at the ball from the inside - hence the draw/hook. Should I work on keeping my hands more in front of my chest?

Is there anything more glaring that you notice?

There are many faults, I'm sure, but I'd prefer to take it one thing at a time and continue to post more videos as I work through them.

If you are going to do regular video of your swing you may want to consider making a account at:

www.swingacademy.com

it is free and others can do a more detailed analysis of your swing and post comments and draw lines and the like. If you then post the swing academy link here you can typically get a few folks to look at it there for you.

I'm not an expert but yes, 'wrapping' seems to be a good term, you're really twisting waaay back as you've already mentioned.

swing plane seems to be too horizontal as well. possibly make it a bit more upright or vertical when you're pulling it back...less like swinging a baseball bat

I'm sure there's some guys here who have good jargon/terms to help explain some of this stuff.

good to see you playing in the rain too, pure dedication

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
