Does anyone have experience using a hunting laser range finder for golf? I ask because I might be able to get a good deal on a Bushnell Yardage Pro Scout (Model # 20-1315). Other then the lack of Pinseeker technology, is it comparable to the Medalist, for example...or are they setup to work differently (i.e. does the hunting range finder tend to pick out distant targets while the golf range finder tends to pick out the closer targets)?

I've got pretty steady aim and the specs say this unit can pick up a flag at 250 yards, but if it is always going to be locking on to the trees behind the green that's no good.

Thanks for your help!

I use a friends Bushnell Yardage Pro for golf (he bought it a 4-5 years ago for hunting) and it works just fine. It doesn't have the pinseeker stuff on it, but I rarley have a problem getting a reading. If the flag is limp from 200+ yards, that is the only major issue. Sometimes I have to shoot it 5-6 times until I get the correct reading, but not a big deal. The thing I have noticed is to have a good guess to how far you are from the course markings. If you can see the 150 marker and you get a reading of 190, it is probably hitting something behind the hole. If you get a 145 reading, then it is correct. The thing I have noticed over the pinseeker models is that the crosshairs are not as fine tuned and it may take a couple of extra hits until you find your target.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

A few quick notes:

Hunting types are less accurate than golf types, if you read the specs
Pinseeker, is about the best invention/code ever thought of

If you use the search function you can find quite a few posts here that have discussed this ad nauseum.
