Different putting grips

I am changing to a cross hand grip for putting. I have been having success with shorter to medium putts, but having been struggling with longer putts. Would it make sense to use conventional grip for long putts and cross hand for medium and short. I an trying to decide if this is just something I need to stick with on longer putts and work through the growing pains.

I hear ya, I've noticed the same thing too. In my opinion, I think it's fine to switch grips depending upon the type of putt. I think cross handed keeps everything square on the shorter-mid range putts, while the regular grip helps with feel and speed of longer putts.

I think I might try that myself!

Been putting cross-handed since I was a freshman in high school and will never turn back. It took me some practice on long putts at first but you will get used to it. Now I am deadly with speed on long putts. Practice it and you will love it.

I use a prayer like grip on my shorter putts but use a more conventional grip for longer ones. I am working on just using a conventional grip just for the ease of not having to choose a grip around 20 feet. If you are okay with having two grips and that works for you there is nothing wrong with it. a lot of people use the claw for shrt and conventional for long putts. my $.02

Whatever works. Traditional, left hand low, claw, hockey grip, one-handed, one-eyed, whatever works. I know a dude who crouches down and putts with his thumbs on top, like he is churning butter. He sinks just about every putt under 10 feet, looks weird but who cares. He only looks funny until he pops in 10 in a row.....

Also, if you want to find your true putting instincts, go Mini-golfing. You will end up reverting to what is most comfortable and trustworthy.

My putting has been complete (for lack of a better word) crap lately. I 3 putted 4 holes on Friday and that was only on the front nine. I could have shot under par for the first time ever if I would have just putted better (had 18 putts on the front nine alone). I hit the practice green on Saturday and told myself I am not leaving this thing until I figure out a putting stroke that is more reliable. I came to realize that lead hand low was awesome. Little hard to judge distance on longer putts when I first started but once I got the feel for it it was much better. The aim was deadly and I was rolling in putts from everywhere. I actually had to scratch my head a few times and pause in the glory of rolling in 2 40 footers in a row. I say practice lead hand low a little more from those distances that are giving you troubles. I think with practice you will learn to love that grip even from longer distances and it will be easier than trying to get the feel for two different putting grips.

      Day 134 (26 Apr 24) - played Minnesott today, worked with the mid-irons and approaches (especially the 7i).  Scoring was a little higher, but I was focused on making the needed adjustments to the swing to achieve desired distances.

      I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.

      Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
