Pretty amazing feat! Next one is a major! Hope she can pull off the quintuple!

Great play yesterday after being back in the pack of the first round of stroke play. I didn’t get to see much yesterday because of the Korn Ferry running over and then having to run a couple of errands. When I returned they had just handed out the trophy!

When coverage began she was three up on ten.

I was tracking and saw that she was 3 up after 6. I saw her lose the 9th with a 3-putt, and then had to run. Great play!

Impressive! To win one is pretty darn good, two in a row even better. 4, is insane.

Akshay Bhatia's win $1.6 million.

Nelly Korda's 2024 money including 4 wins $1.2 and some change.

And now it is 5 in a row with her victory at the major, Chevron Championship. Very impressive run and "5" puts Ms. Korda in the company of some very talented players. When she goes for "6" the golfing world may actually take some notice.

Good weekend for Nike and Taylormade.  5 in a row including a major, that's nuts. Awesome in my book.

I'm kind of surprised that this hasn't gotten more coverage. I get that the Masters was just taking over all of golf's media coverage for a week or two, but even still I thought this might get more run.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Unfortunately it is the LPGA and they simply get less viewership and thus less media coverage.

No doubt about it. But I actually follow golf podcasts and listen to golf talk radio and they haven't even seemed to give it more than a casual mention.

Agreed, there isn't a huge market for professional women's golf here in the US. Years ago my wife and I went to the Women's US Open and I think our tickets were only like 20 bucks or something like that.

Maybe Nelly could do for the LPGA what Caitlin Clark did for Women's College Hoops? 🤷‍♂️

  • iacas changed the title to Nelly Korda 4, errr, 5 in a Row!

There are plenty of amazing things people are doing every single day, but if other people don't care about it, nobody is going to notice. LPGA is not popular that popular, so despite the great achievement, is not getting any attention and is going to be forgotten very soon.
On the other side, if tiger farts louder than normal we are definitively going to know about it because tiger is popular.

This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.

I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men.

Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

I have nothing to add other than I freaking love her swing and I think she's hot as hell and some of my golfing buddies disagree so I fought them

Of course there's not a simple or knowable answer here. But the whole Caitlin Clark phenomenon is a nice example IMO. Suddenly there was wall to wall media coverage and national attention and... the women's tournament got similar ratings to the men's and much higher ratings than the men in the final four. With every indication that there will be some portion of the uptick that remains going forward.

And there's the whole element that Sue Bird brought up. That basketball needed a pretty enough white superstar guard. One who looks like the "cute little white girls" that describes most of the soccer USWNT that's been able to achieve much higher popularity than any version of women's basketball, which is dominated by black players and none of any race who could be described as little...

I do think women's sports are in a good place to start taking off more though. It's really only in the coming 5-10 years that the majority of girls will start to come of age with post Title IX grandmothers (as in their grandmothers were allowed to be serious athletes). I don't follow men's or women's basketball much, but in golf for sure the women's tour has gotten much deeper over the past 20 years and only looks to keep going in that direction. I've heard the same about women's basketball. And the patriarchal attitudes that socialized girls out of sports and everyone out of women's sports fandom aren't gone but have def diminished.

Yeah, that.

It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had.

A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either.

Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either.

It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.

    • A flushed towering 152 yard 8-iron that never left the pin to a foot and a half on the 17th hole after a solid drive. The ensuing birdie putt completed our two man team match claw back to even after being four down through 10.  Tied 18th and the match but felt like a win.
    • A gross 6 under for a scramble is not that good. I would buy it. Our gross winning score is usually 17-18 under. First time I've heard of a handicapped scramble.
    • Absolutely. If my skills were reversed and I was a better putter than driver of the ball, I would have made that 8-footer. For double bogey  Mine is completely blind because it goes downhill starting basically right at the corner of the dogleg with the fairway sloping left to right. I know the line to take from experience, but just to give you an idea how it sets up, I hit directly over the two trees that the white line on my screenshot passes over, with a draw. I'm pretty sure my ball landed on the left side of the fairway. The safe way is to just hit it 220 to the corner and leave yourself just under 150 into a pretty large green, but there's very little reason not to be aggressive on this hole.
    • Day 24: putting practice at home
    • And yet we both made par.  Maybe drive for dough isn't accurate after all  Definitely had some helping wind on mind, it was blowing 15-20mph all day. Yours looks like a fun hole too. Looks like a couple different ways it can be played.
