Anyone played this course yet? I know it opened pretty recently, but Im wondering if anyone has played it yet. Heard it supposed to be nice and I might play next week, but Im debating between this one and Finley at Chapel Hill. Thanks for the input.

this course is infinitely nicer than finely

if you were to pick between the college courses i'd vote Lonnie Poole>Duke University's course > Finely

it opened in July, 2 of the fairways are a little dicey but they're not really in areas you'd be playing too and generally dont effect play on those holes. Course is visually stunning, and has a pretty cool view of the Raleigh Skyline (ala liberty national, not as breathtaking obviously but same effect.)

Great customer service, and the price is pretty decent as well for a course that nice. Can play VERY long (~7400 from the tips with a par 5 well over 600, and 5 holes over 500 from the second tees) but with 5 or so tees there's a distance for everyone. Also it's tended to by one of the top 7 Turf Grass management schools in the nation so the course conditions are pretty fantastic.

i'd suggest this course over Finley definitely

This is a great course and very tough. It's in great condition and the greens are lightning fast. Glad to hear people think this is nicer than Finley and Duke's course. Go Wolfpack!

I played Lonnie Poole Tuesday morning with my brother in laws. It was my first time playing LP. I found the service to be great. The kids working there were really nice and helpful. The course is challenging, the greens are pretty fast and not flat and some of the views are amazing. As someone else mentioned, the course plays long and it requires some course management skills. If I could have hit a few putts, I would have had a decent score (for me). We really enjoyed ourselves (even if we didn't play very well) and hope to make it back to play again. Both of my playing partners wore khaki shorts and red shirts and looked like the staff. I found that humorous. Also, note that if you pull your approach shot left and hit the cart path on 18, your ball can bounce into the parking lot and go hundreds of yards away (don't ask how I know that).

I haven't played Duke's course or Finley since it's been renovated so I can't compare LP to those but I will say that when in doubt, you should avoid being around that nauseating light blue color (9F)
