I am finicky when changing anything that is part of my golf game. i like em both. The Mizunos fell is better but i almost feel like i could progress with the ap2s a bit better. what are your thoughts??????

I voted for someone else - already have blade iron sets from Mizuno (1991 MP), Titleist (1987 tour), Hogan (two sets of 1984 Apex PC with different shafts), MacGregors (1954 MT - very small heads).

If I was in the market for new or slightly used irons (who am I kidding - we're always in the market for new irons) I'd seriously consider the Wilson Staff F59s, the Cleveland CG Tours, or even something from S series from Ping - to completely change things up.

The pings aren't forged i dont like the way clevelands feel and the WS are only in RH blades.....im a lefty.

I see your concern, but the poll specifically asks "What would you buy", not "What should I buy?". How would I know what you should buy? I don't like the look of the AP2 at address (at least the last version anyway) and I already have some great Mizuno blades that are good as anything on the market today - they feel marginally better than my Titleist blades, but both "feel better" than the Hogans on mis-hits. The thing is, I mis-hit the Hogans less often. Go figure.

I guess if we're talking about a choice between those two specific irons, I'd go with Mizuno.

I voted Mizuno because given the choice between the AP2 and the MP-68, I'd go Mizuno. Throw in the 710MB though, and I'm back to Titleist.

Let's make this easy. Just get a set of SB-1's from Scratch Golf and call it good. Best irons I've ever hit!

fair enough . thank you for the explanation. i think being more specific will help my cause. ive hit every brand forged iron i could get my hands on and narrowed it down to those 2.

PS: thank you all for your help

When in doubt, just get a set of both like I did, lol.

I bought MP57's a year ago and played with them all summer. Picked up a set up AP2's a month or so ago and am playing them now. Both gread Company's and great sets of irons.

I'm preferring the AP2's over my 57's because of what they do for my game. They are a lot more forgiving (which anyone can use) and fly higher and further. Ya, I like the look of the 57's better, but looks don't shoot in the 70's; forgiving clubs that a person can hit do.

In my SX76 StaDry
Woods: G15 9.0° BB Stiff, G10 14°
Hybrids: i15 20°, Rapture 24°
Irons: AP2 5-PW
Wedges: SM Vokey 51°, 56°, 60° Putter: Circa '62 No. 2 (Gun Metal Blue) Ball: ProV1

i hit the Ap2 a few weeks back and they felt great. i got a nice high trajectory (higher than my old high-handicapper irons) and they seemed to be more forgiving compared to my old irons as well. i am very excited to get them at my doorstep in a few days!!!

Hit them both and went Titleist AP2's - felt better off the clubface.

Major post purchase angst - finally worked out I didn't like the PX shafts. Now have DGS300's in them and they are fantastic. Mizuno's are always on the shopping list.

One day - maybe.....
What I play:

  • 2 years later...

I got my AP2s custom fitted ; 2 degrees flat with std length and reg shaft : I love the way they help me lift the ball in the air and drop softly. Suddenly i am more confident about landing greens 150 yards out! The feel when you hit the sweet spot is like hot knife through butter! I dont care what the other irons feel like.. if i can hit these well thats all i need.

70% of golf is within 125 yards and thats all wedges and the putter... for the rest I love the AP2s with there feel, nice ball flight and slight forgiveness.
