The shaft is not generating as much kinetic energy, possibly cuz your swing speed is fast enough for extra stiff flex. I would go back to extra stiff unless you are unaccurate with it.

In my Grom:

i was dead accurate with it. i would hit it 308 average (according to the cart gps) and would hit it right where i wanted to 90% of the time. but the other 10% of the time i missed big

my driver ss is 121

308 average 9/10 times right where you want it?! You need to seriously quit your job and turn pro if that is true. But anyways, sounds like you need to go back to extra stiff if your swing speed is 121.

this is kind of like saying you used to a red marker to color something you needed to be red and it worked, but then you decided to use a blue marker to color a red picture.. so common sense says, if the red maker worked for coloring the red picture, why not keep using it.. i.e. the x-stiff being the red marker

I'm with you Dub, my swing speed is right at 120-123 with the driver. I have never purchased a driver for myself, I've always played my dad's hand me downs because he's one of those who gets new clubs about everytime he has a bad round. So his hand me down's are newer than most people's stuff anyways. However, I naturally hit the ball VERY high, so I got a Stiff flex, 8.5 degree Adam's Redline from a friend of his and absolutely crush it. Not straight 90% of the time of course, but when it is it's out there where few can reach (as far as amateurs go I mean). I recently got a 9.5 degree X-stiff TM R9 from eBay and HATED it. swung it maybe 20 times and just wasn't worth the transition.

If you're blessed with the one thing that most everybody wants (distance), I wouldn't change your current setup. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm always wanting to buy a new driver, but I've yet to hit a setup that matches my current one. So why drop $200 on something that won't perform as good you know?

Ha, it was actually quite funny to serve the "pro" at Dick's. I was hitting the '09 Burner which he "assured" me was the best club for me on the simulator. It was going 302, 305 etc., and he challenged me to get my current one, thinking it would be a selling point. You should've seen his face when my old Redline was outdriving that brand new burner by 10-12 yards consistently.

im sayin i used to hit it 308 that far
i now hit it about 280 with my 30 yard loss, i now get about 5 feet on my low drives. im thinging it could be a lighter club head because some pros tell people to hit a less stiff shaft for more distance

ya i didnt hav a choice my old driver broke and the shaft snapped inside the hozzle so it would have to be drilled out an it wasnt worth it. im just not sure if its that older driver have more weight behind them so its easier to hit them far or if its that my shaft is a noodle

    • Day 48. Got out at lunch to the range to hit some driver shots. Haven’t had much practice there. Focused on setup suggested by @iacas and found some very playable results. I did try to hit a couple of bunker shots after that with much less success 🙃
    • Got a rare birdie on #18 Par 5.  Drive was good and left me in range of the green.  I was @ 210 from the center and needed @ 180 to clear a hazard area.  Green had bunkers lest, right and on back. had been struggling and most shots were short so I took the 225 club figuring back of green hit well. i did hit it well, @ 229 per SS and dead on—kind at the pin.  Ended up @ 1 foot off the back in short rough and lucky for me it was a back pin placement.  Chipped about 15 feet leaving a 3 feet putt for par which I sunk.
    • Yea, so to clarify for me. I do not feel the clubface much in the swing. I feel the weight of the club. I can feel if I hit the club off the heel or toe. When I try to feel if the clubface is open or closed in the swing, I feel it more with my hands, and less of the clubhead. I would classify majority of my swings as not feeling like the clubface does much of all. It feels like I hold the clubface open. In the finish, it doesn't feel like my left hand faces the ground. It feels more like it faces the sky. I will try to be more aware of this, but it was just the sensation I got when I was making what felt like good swings. For the most part, I was hitting slight draws or slight pushes.  On this golf trip, I had to hit a low 8 iron around a tree to the green. I made an alignment adjustment, and actively try to roll my hands a bit more to get it to sling around the corner. I do have a habit of not adjusting how the clubface comes through impact, and I can still hit the ball straight-ish even moving the ball way back in my stance and trying to swing out more.  Yea, my feels are more hands and arms, less actually feeling the clubface.
