Shot terribly. I really blew it with my pitching/chipping today. However, what threw me off nearly as much, and kept me in shock, was nearly every time I grabbed an iron I was hitting them about 15-25 yards longer than I've EVER hit them before, just out of the blue. Has this happened to anyone else here before? Now I'm afraid to grab a club I'd normally have grabbed before for fear of "flying" the green, and I'm just as afraid to grab what I probably should been grabbing today for fear of hitting them short, since I've never hit them as far before, as I did today...ARGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

Thanks

Bob Huddleston

happens to me allot, I lose my irons and gain on my woods, lose my woods and gain on my irons, lose my short game and lose it all together. :)

Something i just realized after losing my irons and short game last week, MY HEAD! I get so confident with my iron's and short game that I swing and look up to watch how nice the ball is flying at the hole. But with the early peek the ball goes right, I mean right like i shanked it.

This week I kept my head down as long as my body could allow, and guess what, long and straight even if it wasn't long it was straight, no topping, no shanks, just a clean pure hit.

Just make sure you keep your eyes at the ground and behind the ball as you swing through the ball. I think you will feel that smooth click your looking for once again. :)

Yeah, sounds to me like your timing was probably just spot-on....I know sometimes I get my arms around and don't wait on my hips to turn. But when everything is in sync...you get a day like you had. Keep at it and maybe the fluke 'long-day' can become the norm.

I've had the same problem. I had some survival training where I had several weeks of swimming a few hours a day. When I got back out on the course I was burying everything long. Hvae you been doing anything extra physical lately that would make you stronger or more limber?

And I get the same feeling you get about your distances when I grab a club to hit a draw. I know I can do it, but it's just not what I do so I second guess myself. What I would do in your shoes is embrace it, go hit a bucket to see which game you brought with you that day and stick to that.

Ben Hogan is my swing coach.

    • So, last night was the first night of golf league. First tee I stuck in the ground this year. First time hitting a ball off the grass. Left my putter on my indoor putting mat in the office so I was able to borrow one of my pal's spare putters. I putted poorly, but not the putters fault. Took me forever to realize the greens were very very slow. We've had tons of rain and the greens were downright furry. I also went from my car to the clubhouse to the first tee. No warm up.  It took me a bit to get it going. But finished solid. I think I had four penalty strokes in the first 5 holes.
