I am currently playing a set of Hogan Apex Edge irons with the Apex 4 (stiff) shaft installed in them. The clubs feel great and I love the forged feel in the head, but I am now trying to get my ball flight with a bit more of a lower trajectory. My ball tendancy is towards a high flight and I am thinking of changing to a Project x 6.0 shaft. My understanding is the Apex 4 shaft is a bit softer in the tip resulting in a higher launch. The Project X 6.0 is theoretically about 1/2 a flex stiffer than the Apex 4 and firmer in the tip and should keep the ball down.

Has anyone tried the Project X shafts in their Hogans, or any other clubs in order to help with ball flight? How did it work out?

Well the stiffer the shaft normally means a lower ball flight.

But Why would you want a lower ball flight?
zA higher ball flight would mean the ball will land softer and roll less meaning you could attack the pin easier.

You could get lessons and work on getting a low ball flight if that is what you want rather than getting equipment to correct it. It would be a waste of money. You won't have a high ball flight because of your shaft. It will be your technique.

I realize that swing plane, technique, etc play into the equation. I have been playing for many years and am coming off one of my best seasons, and one thing I have learned is not to screw to much with MY swing and what works for getting the ball from tee to green. I also realize that equipment alone isn't the answer and don't expect to get the end result from changing shafts only.

Actually, the shaft has a lot to do with your ball flight, not so much technique. Sure you can manipulate the ball flight with technique, but why the heck would you change your swing to match your desired ball flight when you could just get a better shaft? You need to learn to hit the ball with a normal swing without having to finish low every time to get a lower trajectory. Go ahead and get a better shaft to match your desired ball flight, and if you need to hit really low shots, then you can gets some lessons and learn how to hit the stingers.

Are the TT DGS300 an option for you or are you set on Project X shafts?

Yes they are an option. I have hit the DGS300 shafts and they are not bad but I think that I may have to go to a DGX100. I got a really good deal on the Project X shafts as they were were pull outs and that is why I am trying those.

Shafts DEFINITELY effect trajectory. Lower kick point shafts will fly higher than a high kick point with the exact same swing. Your swing plane also plays into trajectory a great deal. It's both.

PX 6.0s are stiff with a high kick = They are designed to get the ball up quickly, but flatten out rather than rise.

Apex Edge are a low kickpoint shaft.
(Non flighted) Project X are a high kick point shaft.

Low kick point = higher ball flight
High kick point = lower ball flight

The 6.0s are a bit stiffer as well.

I LOVE the PX 6.0 shaft! I think you will too!

I would have gotten them but price was an issue for me, but if you can afford it, you will not be dissapointed, see if you cant demo a set with 6.0's to see if you even like them though.

Im more of a hitter than a swinger and those shafts were money, the S300's are really nice as well.

Cant go wrong with either IMO.

I have hit the PX Flighted 6.0 and really liked them, albeit they were in a set of X-22 Tours. That aside, the shafts felt really nice. The only thing is I wont be able to try them in Hogans as they only come with the Apex shafts.

Anyways, I got PX 6.0 (non-flighted) for a great price. The only loss in value will be the cost to swap them out back to the origianls if I dont like them in the irons. I will be able to sell them again for sure.
