So the swing analysis here is worthless?

So the swing analysis here is worthless?

It doesn't hold a candle to working with an actual instructor and has the potential to screw you up if you get bad information.

If you're referring to Swing Check or even the commentary offered by people on this forum, they're better than Swing Academy because at least you have a clue who's telling you what to do. Tom's a +3, I'm a one-point-something... etc.

I am still trying to figure out how you put a camera in front of you without hitting it!

Some web site in this thread or on the ST home page said to record from front, back and side at waist height. A camera may seem small but it would surely find the camera.

edit:
here it is

Required Shots For the best analysis, we ask that you film yourself swinging with two clubs from two angles for a total of four videos. Note: you must hit a golf ball. Please don't submit your practice swings to us, as you know what they say about that. The four shots are: 1. Facing camera with a driver. 2. Facing camera with a 6-iron. 3. Camera down the target line with a driver. 4. Camera down the target line with a 6-iron.

um :x that means facing the ball -at address- not staring down the target line. your body faces towards the ball at address thus the camera should be on the other side of the ball faceing back at you.

OH! I figured facing meant after the strike when you are looking down range. I am glad I don't have to kill a camera for free advice.

Kind of a funny related story.

I saw a guy on the practice range one day with a camera down the line. He would hit a shot then look the camera and record what the shot did, (fade, draw, straight, etc.) which I thought was a good idea. After he turned the camera off and packed it up, I asked him if he had ever looked at the swing from face on to check his wieght shift and impact position. He said "I'd love to, but I don't like the feeling of having the camera right up on me for that." After I thought about it for a minute, I asked "this may sound silly, but have you tired putting the camera farther away and zooming in?" He looks at me with this total deer in headlights expression and then proceeds to get his camera and tripod back out of the bag.

    • after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....
    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
