I got lucky and found a Sun Mountain Speed Cart at a local thrift shop during lunch today. I'm fairly sure it's a V1 model due to no bags or pouches on it. Nothing obviously wrong with it during my quick scan over it. I have no idea how old it is.

It has the tube tires, the tire pump is there, as it the umbrella holder. The tray cover doesn't seem to want to stay closed, probably just worn a bit on the clip/latch area.

I've read a few reports of some having issues, some having no issues, and some having the bag tip back onto the handle and dump the clubs out. I'm thinking I'll just throw an extra dozen or two balls into the bag pocket to help with the tip-back concern. Is there anything else I should look at specifically or upgrade or replace on this?

I kind of like that seat thing and might go ahead and price out a replacement tray. I might also look at just fab'ing my own clear cover for the tray out of plexiglass or something and maybe hang a boating style BarBuoy on the handle or frame to hold a water bottle. I might even replace the foam handle grip with some bicycle bar wrap since I like the feel of that over the foam stuff (at least for my bicycles).

I'm open to any input or experiences on this, thanks in advance. The price was right so I can play with it and have a little fun.

(Currently fighting to get images of Rodney Dangerfield ideas out of my head.)

I own one, don't know the model but the plastic hatch, if it's the same one i have, i have to punch it to get it to close. I have never had an issue with it tipping over. Remember it's a 3 wheeled cart, and it will fall over if given an opportunity on a side hilll. angle the front wheel slightly down hill, put on the annoyingly tight bicycle break, and you'll be fine. Mine has never fallen over, unless i rolled it down a hill and it hit a sunken sprinler head... that is an opperator error, not the cart's fault.

What did you pay for the thing?

Less than ten, tax included. I got a deal.

I work on bikes part time seasonally and have an assortment of parts at home so I might upgrade the brake on the thing.

I'll have to get a better look at it but usually the budget brakes have centering issues so all you can really do is ensure the center pivot shaft is snug to the mounting brace. Sometimes that isn't possible due to the stackup and needing the brake arms to pivot freely. Sometimes the cable housing is an issue too. I'll take a closer look at it this weekend. In the mean time the www.parktool.com website has a bike repair section, also see Sheldonbrown.com (part of the Harris Cyclery web site) for more tips.

    • Day 134 (26 Apr 24) - played Minnesott today, worked with the mid-irons and approaches (especially the 7i).  Scoring was a little higher, but I was focused on making the needed adjustments to the swing to achieve desired distances.
    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
