although against the contemporary notion that length is always better i have undertaken a certain experiment. i installed a ust proforce shaft in my driver, 43 1/2" and although considerbaly shorter, the stock shaft was 45", i have had considerbale success. I've never had such confidence in the big stick with control and distance, i also bumped up the stiffness, which as made me play a more contolled, shoter swing driven by my core muscles. now i am thinking about taking it a step further and shortening all the shafts in my irons while also incresing the stiffness.

has anyone tried this before or heard of the idea? what are the common consequences? i think i may gain accuracy and power, and am anxious to try it. thanks for all your input.

It's certainly worth a shot and I'm interested to hear how it works for you.
As long as it actually improves your contact with the ball then I'm all for it. However if you still make good contact with a longer club and accuracy remains the same and distance improves, I'd lean towards the longer club.

As with any test I try to keep other variables the same. Remember by shortening the club you have also changed the swingweight so I think a good experiment would be to have several 6 irons built. This way the loft/lie will be the same and now you can compare them with shorter/longer lengths and heavier and lighter swingweights. This way you can see which specification change really makes a difference for you.

Good luck and have fun with the test.
