I was looking at the schedule for this week's golf action, and it's not bad at all. The HSBC Champions tournament in China is this weekend, and the field is awesome! This is the tournament that David Howell won last year after outlasting Tiger on Sunday. There are a lot of big names in the field again this year.

The Merril Lynch Shootout starts out the PGA Tour silly season, but it has a little intrigue this time around. Nick Faldo and Greg Norman are playing as a team, and Annika Sorenstam is teaming with Fred Couples. I'm sticking to my favorites and picking Scott Verplank and Justin Leonard, however. Anyway, I'll watch some of this event.

The Nationwide Tour Championship is this weekend, and I'll definitely catch a few hours of it over the weekend. It will be nice to see some of the future PGA Tour golfers in the process.

The LPGA Tournament of Champions is this weekend, but Annika's absence will definitely hurt that one a little. I probably won't watch any, but the field is still pretty good.

That's not a bad schedule for the silly season so-to-speak. I'll watch some of the first three but probably won't catch much LPGA.

What about everyone else? Are you guys and gals going to watch any golf this weekend, or is it officially football season in your mind now that The Tour Championship is in the books?

I'm still looking forward to the ADT Championship on the LPGA Tour. They have a daily cut there (basically) that should create some fireworks.

I'm taking this weekend off from golf, primarily. Though I'll follow the HSBC in China.

Since it looks like steady rain and cold this weekend, except when the Huskers are on I will probably watch some, not even sure which, probably not the one in China.

I have a tournament with some friends early Saturday morning, and then college football all day until Alabama plays on ESPN that evening. Then, if I haven't drowned my sorrows too much, for Sunday I might try and catch the final round of some of the events that are being televised. I like the idea of a daily cut. It could make for some interesting final pairings.

Wisconsin vs. Iowa and the Packers vs. Vikings is what I'll be watching although if there is any TV coverage, I may try to catch the Nationwide guys...

Nice avatar.

Wisconsin/Iowa? That's a cupcake game for the Badgers this season. No need in wasting your time with that one. Oh yeah, I'll be watching Oklahoma State vs. Baylor as well, so I can't say anything. As for the Nationwide guys, I believe it's on every day on The Golf Channel, but I have no idea of what time. The weather has also given me the chance to get out and play my first round since The Newport Cup. It's supposed to be 85 here today, woo!!! I hope it stays like that for a couple more days.

    • after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....
    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
