Wife and I are going to Maui in  a couple of weeks and want to play golf.  We plan to play one or two of the nicer (expensive) courses but will also need to find the more affordable ones for some rounds.... hoping for suggestions of good, affordable Maui courses.

Thanks

It could depend on where you are staying. I played Kapalua, not the Plantation, but still spectacular. But it's a must. Another beauty, not cheap, worth playing is on the island of Lanai. You have to take a boat there. There's also Kaanapali, having 2 courses. Or further East is Makena and Wailea.  Go to GolfHawaii.com. Hawaiigolf.com, GoHawaii.com. Plenty of sites. The nice thing about golfing there too, is if your wife, or partner doesn't golf, they can ride along for a minimal fee. Also, if it's repeated, on Golf Channel, there was a couple of GolfNow Hawaii specials, with gorgeous Lauren Thompson. There was this small, inexpensive locals golf course on Maui too. I still have them saved on my DVR, because I love Hawaii so much. I will watch it again(most likely with tears in my eyes) and will update this thread on the course.

Thanks for the reply.  I will look forward to more info on the public course(s). We will play a couple of the higher end ones, but want to get more golf in so will have to pick a few cheaper ones.  Do you rent clubs on the island?

This is a thread from last year.
Here's a good resource to start.Everything you need to know is pretty much there. Guys at the shop are very helpful.
If you are only going to play a few rounds you can rent from Golf Maui. Check their web site or call for prices,
They have some good deals and decent clubs.

I liked these courses for some of the more affordable courses
Pukalani has some nice views from about 1000 feet up.
The Dunes
Pukalani Country Club
Kahili Golf Club
I didn't play it, but I hear the one muni course Waiehu Municipal has some nice ocean views. I have also heard that the
rounds can take longer than 4 1/2 hours too.
You have to play these courses - Fabulous
For the money I would pick this package over the plantation course.
Check out the picture of the one hole on the Challenge on the Golf Maui link.
The Challenge at Manele
The Experience at Koele
Come back and tell us where you played and what your thoughts were.

I agree 100% with Sam, the "Experience..." and "Challenge..." are more spectacular than Kalalua.  And I just watched my recorded Hawaii golf shows... sniff, sniff; wishing I were there. The place I spoke of, is also mentioned by Sam,  the Pukalani Country Club is more than 1/2 the price of the other places. BUT, no matter the cost, it's pretty much a once in a lifetime to play there. So any course is worth it to me. Enjoy!!!!! I wish you and your wife a safe and wonderful, mesmerizing trip. And if in the area, eat outdoors at the Hula Grill(Kaanaplali) watching the sunset. And if you have the time, take the ride up to the Haleakela volcano to watch the sunrise.

not to take away from your original topic, while ur both there, u should give sporting clays a try in maui as well, heard it is fabulous
