Does it matter WHERE you get fitted for clubs?

I've been lurking these forums for a while, and I finally made this account to ask a question I have no clue about. I recently broke my driver, and I want my next one to be fitted, however I have never been fitted before and don't know what to expect. I'm wondering if getting fit at a golfsmith or golf galaxy is the same as getting fit at a place that only does fittings ( http://clubchampiongolf.com ). It seems from the description (and the price) that their fittings are much more comprehensive and accurate, but I don't know if thats just really good marketing on their part. Is the difference in a top 100 fitting place like that and a superstore like golf galaxy or golfsmith justified even though its way more expensive?  I already called and asked and they do not fit for free if you purchase clubs from them.

Not sure how things work stateside but i would think any decent golf pro could sort your fitting out,

I had my irons fitted a month back and although the pro had all the launch monitor's and what not all we used was the impact bored, that indicated i needed them 2degrees flatter as i was hitting off the heel alot,

not sure how driver fitting goes, i think you can only change the length and grip size?? or get advise on what driver would suite you best before buying one

Depends, for a  general length/lie fitting, lots of places do that, it doesnt require much expertise.

But some people like to get fit for absolutely everything, personally i dont think its necessary, in that id go to someone affiliated with a compenent maker brand or someone whos really specialized becuase you need to have the exacting compenents to make that work.

Not really. The biggest thing between the fitters are the options available. It really isn't a good fitting if you only have 2 or 3 options of clubs and shafts per club. Not to say you couldn't find something that works with limited options, but if you really want it done right, you need several options to compare. If you have the opportunity to do it outside and hit down a range, I would do it outside. Hitting into a net is okay I guess, but it's nothing compared to seeing what is happening with the ball. If nothing else, work out a deal that the best few clubs can go with you to the range for a bucket of balls.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Club Champion does a good job with their fittings. They will fit you for a shaft that suits your swing, then you can try out the heads. They have the largest selection of shafts in the Chicago Area (from my knowledge). I was fit by them a couple months ago.

Now if you do want a custom shaft in your driver, it will probably cost you almost the cost of the driver to buy that shaft (my Bassara Griffin for example cost $350, that includes PUREing and the shaft install). If you're not willing to spend that kind of money, I wouldn't recommend going to CC. My driver total probably cost $700 total, but I haven't had a new driver for almost 10 years so I was ok with splurging a little.

    • Day 133 (25 Apr 24) - Worked with the Divot Board today added a piece of cardboad behind the ball to help reinforce ball first contact. Contact improved through the round.   Added grandson's football goal posts about 10yds out to add a good start line visual Good session today.
    • Day 120: 4/25/24 Full Speed Spectrum training session. Low energy today and my speed was lower than normal. Will see what I can do on Saturday.
    • Day 541, April 25, 2024 Ten minutes after lessons. Still not caught up, but should be by tomorrow evening.
    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
