Hi folks,

Earlier today I went for a Mizuno fitting, during which it was decided that my swing sits squarely in the middle of a stiff shaft band and that I require a medium weighted shaft for my irons. I hit the Dynamic Gold S300 better than all the other shafts I tried.

When I asked the fitter whether I should be looking at stiff shafts for my woods too and he said I most definitely should, based on my iron fitting and shaft requirements. He suggested the Grafalloy Prolaunch Red to try out at a local range and see how I get on.

Now I've had a look at the Mizzy website and the Grafalloy Red isn't an option for custom shafts in the 3H which has caused some questions to come up in my mind.

  1. I assume it's possible to have a shaft removed and a new one installed into a driver, wood or hybrid (99% sure but want to be certain)?
  2. Should I be looking at the same shaft across all three clubs for consistency or does it really not matter as long as I hit each of them well separately?
  3. Based on the limited selection available from Mizuno for the hybrid, how can I figure out which ones to try and avoid as they all seem to have some type of "stiff" flex.
  4. Have you hit an Exsar HS5 S, Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki S, Project X hybrid 5.5 or UST Axivcore Blue 85 S or Tour Black 100 S? What do you think of them and are they worth trialling?
  5. Are there any shafts you'd recommend trying that would be suitable for all three clubs?

Quite possibly silly questions but I figured I may as well ask on the offchance that something helpful comes up for both me and others.

  1. You can remove a shaft and install a new one, but depending on the shaft it could get fairly expensive.  After market shafts tend to be pricey, especially the higher end ones.  You might want to compare the cost of replacement shafts with just buying new clubs and selling your old ones or trading them in.
  2. Since your wood heads are all Mizuno JPX 800 it probably makes sense to stick with the same shaft manufacturer and model.  The shafts are different for a Driver, wood and hybrid so you'd want the appropriate shaft for each club head from the manufacturer you select.
  3. Look at the kickpoint, weight and torque of the ProLaunch Red and compare them to the shafts Mizuno offers.  Pick the shaft Mizuno offers that's closer to the Grafalloy if that's your reference shaft.
