I know I will probably get some Yankee fans to chime in but I am tired of Roger Clemens. Same thing last year wait around to see who needs him the most and take the money from the most desperate.

He got a clause in his contract to leave the games he is not starting what a great teammate. Now on his part it was a smart business decision but retire already.

Also, I did not know this until last night, last year he started 17 games and only made it to the 7th inning 6 times, just throwing that out there.

Mike

Keep it on the short grass.

Roger now represents all that is wrong with sports today. He has become the ultimate sports *****. He seems to get a free pass from so many people as well but he really defines the ultimate non-team player.

Wonder how he is going to do against the better hitting AL too. Here's one who hopes he gets lit up.

I for one am glad...we needed the pitching and if he can make it past the sixth inning he will have done better than 65% of our current starters!

BillBill13,
That's really the problem though. The last thing the Yanks need (at least this Sox fan thinks) is another starter that can't get them into the 7th. Last year Clemens averaged a hair under 6 innings per start. Throw in the DH and it's only going to get tougher for him.
Just speculating of course, but when everything shakes out, this could be the single stupidist signing of the Steinbrenner era; and that's saying something.

LOL $28 Million (prorated to 18...) for a guy who averaged 5.9 innings pitched while pitching in the NL Central last year. I suspect he'll give up a lot more runs this year but he's going to have to pitch deeper than that into games or Scott Proctor's arm is going to fall off (if it hasn't already). As a Red Sox fan I didn't even want him back. Seriously. We've got Schill, Beckett (the new best pitcher in the league), Dice-K, Wake and Julian Tavarez, but Lester should take that spot once he's ready. No need to waste the money.

I'm kind of sick of the Roger Clemens thing too. He gets to skip spring training, doesn't have to pitch an entire year, doesn't have to be at the game where he isn't pitching... and signs on in May to whoever will give him the most money, and it's always a ton. I guess he's getting exactly what he wants, gets to do what he wants and makes a boat load of money in the process so who can blame him... but for once I'd like to see teams say, uhh, no we aren't going to give you that kind of money. Or why wouldn't you be with your teammates at the game when you aren't pitching?

In the end I'm glad he signed with the Yankees. I can't wait to see the Sox bash him.

Signing more bad horses does not improve the chariot.

4.5M/month for a 6 inning pitcher. And dont forget when he was mowing 'em down for 6 innings last year, thats only pitching to 8 guys, not 9. Looking forward ti his first start in REAL hitting league, likely to be June 2, and likely to be against a good pitcher. The game will if course draw 20 million viewers.

The only reason I would have loved to see him back on the Sox was for posterity's sake. It would have been cool to see Roger back in the Sox uniform where he belongs but we just don't need him.

And bad for team chemistry. No road trips, certainly does not care about team first, etc...

Besides, would he really want to come be a #4? Is he good enough to BE our #4? (over Wakefield right now?) 4.5M/month for a solid #5, HAHAH! I agree with Schil on 38pitches blog. NO NEED

You know what, I thought that

last year before he decided to return to Houston, because, well they were still willing to pay a bunch of money and he had to show up one day a week. That would have been cool and the fans would have embraced him. Last year was his chance to return to Boston for one last year. He could have earned the most wins by a Red Sox pitcher and closed out his career where it started. He decided against it, showed were his priorities were and after that the window of opportunity closed.

Yeah, I think you make a good point. It's just too bad he

can get away with what he does, especially for the dollars he commands (and gets). And we still don't have to like him.

I agree with the Beckett comment and thought that the Yanks should have gone after him, when he was leaving FL. I'm hoing that the Rocket can average 7 innings and help the rotation but you never know he is 45+ years old.

Since we blew it on Beckett I do hope that we go after Dontral Willis at the end of this season.

Roger Clemens is just another nail in the coffin of professional sports. Pretty soon Major league teams are going to price themselves out of proffitability. I used to go to several games a year, but now can't afford to. After spending $100+ for 2 tickets then getting reamed for a $7 soda and $8 hot dog? I'll just check out the box score the next morning.

My dad has been a Yankees fan his entire life, but even admits that George's practice of trying to buy penants is getting old. What ever happened to a farm system? I've grown up a Braves fan, and if we could win 14 straight divisions with a team made up primarily of our own draft picks why can't other teams? Maybe the Yankees should hire some better scouts.

Anyway, Roger Clemens is an ass and I hope he tears a rotator cuff or something. I also wish that major league salaries weren't guaranteed like footballs. I think that would greatly improve the game.

The way things are headed in the MLB recently, we're looking at a salary cap in 5 years or so.

What an asinine comment! Why would you wish an injury on an athlete...I respect your opinion with not liking the guy or what he's doing but...

only on an "athlete" like Roger Clemens. The man has hit a player in the head intentionally, and then thrown a bat at the same player. (Not that I'm a huge Piazza fan.) The man has no respect for the game and doesn't deserve to receive any.
