One thing that has really been on my mind lately is distance from the ball at address.  I've read a few things online about putting the club behind the ball and bringing the grip down and it should hit around 2 inches above your knee cap.

I noticed that I must of been standing to close to the ball because when I would start using this and putting some distance between my feet and the ball my irons became more consistent.  Especially with my 3 wood, I had started hooking it real bad but the extra distance allowed me to stripe it down the middle from off the deck.

What are some things I can do to get the proper distance between the ball and my feet?

Long time lurker here, been browsing this site off and on since about 2006 (off and on meaning, every time the golf bug would come back, this was my #1 community to go to for golf related forums).

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy

Depends on your swing really, Jim Furyk stands closer to the ball and his hands almost hit his body in the downswing. While other players will have there hands further away from the body.

If your footwork is good and you are in a balance position at address and can maintain that through the swing, then depending on the rest of your posture will determing your hand position. Really its personal preference. I don't like to see people with there arms straight out. My dad does this on his driver, but his hands return to a better position at impact, and he hits the ball good. So it really doesn't affect his impact position. As long as your not reaching to far that it brings you out of balance, just find a position that works for you.

I've noticed I have a tendency to pull the ball to the left when I'm a good ways back sometimes.  It doesn't hook just goes a lot more left than I thought, could be bad alignment but when it happens it goes straight but usually far left of the green or worse into the woods.
