Are these good clubs for a beginner? I found a local seller on Craigslist selling a set for $300, which seems like a great deal. I've been using a second hand set of 12 year old Titleist DCI Oversized irons, but have been contemplating more modern set as I becomes more serious. The only catch is that they were fitted for the seller with the shafts being 1/2" longer and the lie being +2 degrees each club. That doesn't seem huge and I am a bit taller than average at 6 feet without shoes. I've been playing since April this year and have had a few lessons and am starting to get a decent swing. Should I bite? Would they be a noticeable improvement?

There will not be a noticeable improvement you can bank on that.

Take a test board with you and masking tape. Insist that you be allowed to tape the club and hit the board several times to get a mark on the tape. The mark should be mid point hosel to toe indicating the lie is OK for you.  Paint the board scrap with primer paint and dry for better witness mark  If he says no then forget the clubs. Who knows what the lie is to you.

The price? Look them up on eBay  in the completed listing tab http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=Titleist+AP1&LH;_Complete=1&rt;=nc

He could always get them fitted afterwards if they don't fit him.

Sounds like a good deal, I'd jump on it.

Good point but if I were OP iI'd check local fitter  availablitiy and cost. If that out weighs just buying a dirrerent set then...?

    • Day 129: 5/4/24 Stack training but could not certify my warmup speed. Dealing with a pulled neck muscle. Chips and pitches at a local course for about 15 minutes.
    • Typically less than 50. I find this can be affected by the "CART" signs on a given course. I don't like taking my rangefinder out of the cart and carrying it around to the green. I am very fearful I will leave it somewhere.
    • First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go! The red Xs the approximate location of each shot.  Really fun!!
    • Day 23: Rained all day, so no ball hitting. Worked indoors on top of the backswing feel, and also putted around the living room working on bead.
    • Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.
