Struggling with consistsency on the putting green

Whilst the rest of my game is pretty steady, I am really struggling to bring this form to the green. I find myself leaving longer puts either way short or too long. I've tried lots of drills and practice lots but don't see any improvement. A few friends have told me to try a fat/oversized grip but I know very little about them, does anyone use one or recommend one?

I have an Odyssey oversized grip on my putter and really like the way it feels.   That said, I struggle with the same problem as you and I don't think the grip size has much to do with that..

You won't get consistent distance unless / until you consistently hit the sweet spot on the putter. If it were me i'd get some impact  tape to check my contact point. Try to extablish a smooth pendulum stroke. After that i'd get on a flat green and with a measured (say just outside your right little toe (righties)) stroke and establish how far that stroke travels. Then you can make adjustments for uphill or downhill. Good luck
