Cleveland Niblick Option for my Bag.

I've been looking through some old threads and reading up on the Cleveland Niblick and from what I can tell it is a very polarizing idea and club. Either someone totally agreed that it was a must, or someone strongly suggested that its a waste of a club in the bag and can be replaced with a good wedge.

 

I have in my bag:

 

Driver - Walter Hagen MS2 (10.5*)
3W - Walter Hagen MS2 (15*)
5W - Wilson Staff Fybrid (18*)
4H - Walter Hagen MS2 Hybrid (21*)
Irons - Callaway Diablo Edge-R Steel Shafts:
4 (22*)
5 (25*)
6 (28*)
7 (32*)
8 (36*)
9 (40*)
PW (44*)
GW - Cleveland CG16 (50*)10 Bounce
SW - Walter Hagen MS2 (56*)
Putter - Titleist Dead Center Bladed
 
I can easily take out my 4H and put in a 42* Niblick. That way I still have my wedges but I have something more reliable around the greens and on the fringe.

I can easily take out my 4H and put in a 42* Niblick. That way I still have my wedges but I have something more reliable around the greens and on the fringe.

Just remember, those *against* them, never fully utilized the club. The uneducated call them *chippers* because they fear something different. The 42 degree could replace your pitching wedge on full shots, not that I would recommend it.(I like keeping the PW in due to the different bounces between the 2)

 

Another option is to go for the 37 degree (you can usually find used and cheap on ebay) - which can take the place of a 9 iron on full shots and is a bit better for the old bump and run.

 

You definitely have room since you carry a 4i and 4h - in my case the 4i is usually the one swapped out.

Thank you for the input. I agree when you say most only see it as a "chipper". From what I read it looks versatile. I haven't had a chance to hit my 4i because its new but either way one of the 4s can go. With the 37* Niblick, would that hit more like an 8i than a 9i? I am seriously considering this club. And does it hit a normal trajectory or lower than an 8i or 9i?

Remember that it is a shorter club, so trajectory would be more like an 8, but distance is closer to a 9.(that's with the 37*) stogiesnbogies could give you better info on the 42*

Under groups, we have started a *Niblick Army* group. We are currently small but are always looking for new members.
