Hello all, about 2 years ago i purchased the Cleveland Cg7 black pearl tour irons. At the time, they were a very good price and i felt like it was a steal and i just had to buy them. not a huge mistake, but i think there are other clubs out there that would suit my game much better. my handicap roughly if i had to guess is about 10-12, and i feel like these irons are meant for players with single digit handicaps or even scratch golfers. i would like a club with more forgiveness, however i don't believe i need a beginner set either. any suggestions would be a huge help!

All the major manufacturers will have a game improvement iron.  One way you can get a list of them is to check Golf Magazines Clubtest, or Golf Digests Hot List.  Personally I play the Mizuno JPX-825 Pro irons, which are considered Game Improvement irons without the bulky looks.  Very nice irons.  Mizuno also has  the JPX-825 irons which are considered even more forgiving than the 825 Pros, but it is a cast clubhead as opposed to forged, and they are bulkier looking.  I like the look and feel of the Pros better.

It sounds to me like you want to buy new irons and are trying to justify it.  If you can afford new clubs, and want new clubs, go get some new clubs.  I don't know the Cleveland model range very well, so I can't suggest any clubs from that line, but LOTS of companies make clubs for people in the 10-12 range.

What is the weak part of your game?  How many GIRs do you have a round?  How many putts do you average a round?  What is your average approach club?  How many times do you get up and down when you are close to the green?

I think at a 10-12 handicap you should be able to analyze your game and identify the area that is the weakest and then look for an equipment upgrade in that area that will help you drop that handicap back to the 8 that you have posted in your profile.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water
