I am thinking about building a putting green in my backyard and I was wondering if anyone has any experience in this. Any advice as to where I should look for plans, etc.? My wife is actually OK with this, so I need to strike while the iron is hot.

One question.

It sounds like we're talking about Danielle from Big Break III. Serriously though, I am looking at all options right now.

If you go real, you will have maintenance that you will have to take care of.
( mowing, topdressing, aerating, watering )

If you go synthetic, you will have to pay someone to do it for you. I personally think they are a waste of money but that is just my 2 cents. If you are going to put a green in your backyard go real and have a fun time with it.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Here is a site I think you should check out:

Great article. Thank you for posting it. It sounds like a ton of work, but the money is way less than I was expecting for real grass. I have a backhoe and dump truck at my disposal and I can get a deal on the topsoil. My biggest concern is the fact that I live in Michigan and our winters are pretty harsh.

If you go to the member info page they have the option for change your avatar. It will give you the specs as to the size of the photo you can use. Once you have that, you can resize any digital photo to fit. Save the photo and use the steps on the website to put it in. Once I figured it out it took about 10 minutes. He's a pure-bred Bull Mastiff named Oscar. He is 17 months old and 115 pounds. He should grow a little more...about 125.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have actually started to make a home putting green, with my parents' permission of course. It will have only 1 hole and will be quite simple, yet adequate for us. I just started today actually. My back garden has grass, which is raised (as you will see in the photo) already, so half the work was done for me. Tomorrow, I will look for a roller to flatten the grass. My father has also given me help with this. It will look better after a few month's maintenence. I do have the time to carry this out.

In my bag: (all graphite (regular flex)except putter)

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
