This is in a beautiful rain forest settings in Oahu.  I first played this course about 5 years ago and the course was beautiful and in good shape.

Unfortunately, now the course condition is almost unplayable.  I played with my brother-in-law about a week ago (December 2014) and the fairways were in one of the worst conditions I have ever seen on a golf course.  Actually, on the back nine, I don't think there is any "fairway" to speak of.  All mud and hardly any grass at all.  It was not surprising that it was cart path only on the back nine as you'll get stuck in mud if you try to drive it.

Apparently, American Golf took over managing this course a year or two ago (as told by one of the player assistances) and as with most of the courses managed by American Golf that I've played, the place has gone downhill -- and fast!!!

I wouldn't play here even if they paid ME!!!

November and December are the rainy months in Hawaii, and the windward side of the koolau mountains are the wettest place on Oahu. Koolau GC has always been bad in the winter, especially the back nine as its tucked against the mountain and doesn't drain. Try Royal Hawaiian GC (formerly Luana Hills) just on the other side of the Pali if you want a good jungle course in the winter months. http://thesandtrap.com/products/koolau-golf-club/reviews/4185
