I have been working on plane for the last week after I went to a lesson. I got my plane pretty good by dropping my right shoulder before I turn my upper body. The only problem is I shut the face to fast and I don't hit it as far I'm used to hitting a 9 iron 155-160 but now I "only" hit a 9 iron about 150 or 155 if I swing on a better tempo. I was hitting a pull draw/hook when I came over the top now I hit a little draw or a hook. Is it a bad thing to drop my shoulder to start the swing!?

A pull draw is going to go a bit longer with the short irons because the club is a bit more delofted so the slight loss of yardage is normal. The right shoulder does down move downward in the downswing but it really depends on how you interpret that sensation. A swing video would be necessary to determine if you were overdoing it or not.

That makes sense I also have a tendency to over swing in the backswing and that's when I hook if I get a good grip and a shorter swing I hit the ball very accurately and can usually make par or birdie but if I hook I'm garuenteed bogey so I'm trying to eliminate the hook. I will post my swing as soon as I can. Thanks for the input!
