Switching golfballs?

Hello,
by reading the golfball thread, I thought about how I and maybe others use their golfballs.
For those like me, who don't play the top notch balls (Pro V1, HX Tour, usw.) every time, does it pay off to switch on a ball like this for important rounds (like tournaments)?

I mean changing from a Topflite D2 Feel to found Pro V1 (in good condition).
Do you think you will improve your game with using a better ball or will you suffer from not knowing your ballflight, trajectory, distance...?

I am curious what you think about that!

Hello,

Good question... I tend to think that you should find a ball that works and stick with it. Tournament scores are all about scoring your best and if you switch to a ball that you are not that familiar with you may lose something in the way of predictability which is critical for playing your best. My 2 cents.

I think generally speaking you shouldn't switch to a ball without knowing why you are doing so. I was playing cheap balls (the maxfli revolutions - 20 bucks for two dozen) for two years and am considering switching back to the prov1 that I used to use when I was shooting the low to mid 80s. I am considering a ball fitting though before doing so. I am sure that others with more knowledge on this forum will tell you more specifics on how to do so...

how do you like the 32s? I am thinking of switching from my tm 300s to those after hitting a few on the range with those clubs... absolutely loved the feel...

In general they are great! The feeling when you hit them good is just so nice!
But if you have a bad day they really give you hell

Yeah I tried them out at the store on a launch monitor and I absolutely loved them. Going to get a set to replace my TM300s. My only concern is switching from my 6.0 rifles to the dgs 300s. I had those shafts on the top flite tours I used to play and liked them but the rifles are awesome. We will see!

Couldn't you get them customized? It is not that expensive!
I paid 80$ upcharge in South Carolina for getting the ProjectX instead of the 300S.

I could... it's just that I am pretty standard.. standard lie, length... my ss is 99 with the irons, 104 with the driver (9.5 titleist d-1 adila nvs 65)... my ball flight is not too high, not too low with the rifles or the dgs... i just don't see what the benefit would be... with the dgs I will be able to get them for about close to 350 off the retail price...

Sorry if I hijacked your thread... with the equipment you use I would figure titleist prov1s or something like that... why the top-flites? I hate those balls personally since I can't get that much spin out of them and I find them generally to be hard as rocks...

But since they have the D2 Feel, you really can play them!
I used to play NXT Tour in Germany and other balls if I find any good ones!

Right now, I am waiting for my Bridgestone E5!

I don't like spending 5 Euro a ball for the Pro V1. And Lakeballs cost in good condition also 2.5 Euro.

You should get fitted for a ball. In addition to distance, you should be looking at spin rate, launch angle, etc. Those are the determining factors of how your ball is going to react.

From experience, I hit with numerous balls during my fitting. The Nike Platinum One, an expensive ball, did not give me the same reaction as the Hogan Hawk and Titleist DT Solo. Both balls spun less and gave me more distance than the Platinum One. The ball speed and swing speed were close for all three, however, the spin rate and launch angle were different.

Don't be fooled by price. Just because its more expensive does not mean its better for you.

What is the difference betweeen the Bridgestone E5 and E6?

I really don't know!

Got a good offer on the E5s so I took them, but I haven't played with them yet!

      This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score

      Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage.       We have a very difficult but mostly showy course this week. Lets see what they got. This course offers so many chances to get into trouble it is really a mental minefield. I am excited to see who can handle it and who cant. Last year we got a foreshadowing of JJ and Rory, I am excited for this year Who do people have winning? what will the winning score be? I am thinking 12 or 13 under
