Strengthening iron lofts..

Has anyone had their lofts bent on their forged iron sets to help lower ball flight and or gain distance?

I just purchased a used set of MP32's in average conditon for next to nothing. I like them but they seem a bit weak, does anyone recommend having them bent a degree or 2 strong?

I've never done this, so i know nothing about the typical results you get from it.

i have never heard of long iron's being 'bent', but i have heard of people bending shorter irons 9-pw etc

I did these to my irons. (See signature). I had them made a degree stronger on my 7, 8, and 9 Irons.

You should also check your shafts. Take them to a local store or fitter that can measure them for you. You might have shafts that are not the weight and flex they claim to be. (Again, from experience) As for distance and ball flight, I get really good height. Distance is anywhere from 5-7 more yards per club.

I just reworked all my lofts on a new set of Titleist 735 cms. They came 47-43-39-35-31-28-25-22. I started off of my wedge 48-44-40-36-32-28-24-21 so I could keep my 48-54-60 in tact. Forged clubs are easy to bend so it is not a problem and I kept everything at plus or minus a degree. I would not go past 2 degrees because you are also altering the bounce (ie 48/8 becomes 46/6). Even if you don't bend them you may want to check them to make sure they are on. I have not seen to many sets out of the box that were dead on.

When it comes to adjusting lofts, imo, you should adjust them to benefit your game making sure you are covering your gaps. In my case I weakened the top end and then strengthened the last two just to spread them out slightly to give me more range.

I check the adjustments on my irons at least 2 times per year. Forged clubs do bend from use. As TourSpoon said, it helps cover your gaps. You can really dial them into the yardage you need.

      Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.

      As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
